I have an older similar Brother model that is a true work horse. I bought this as a birthday present for my son whose job situation - like many - required him to convert a room at home into a virtual office. He as already been using its printer and scanning functions a lot and absolutely loves it. Unit hits all the major boxes: performance, price, functions, etc.

So far so good. I chose this printer because I was tired of spending money on inkjet cartridges that would dry up before I had the chance to use it. This black and white printer also does color scans. It works very well and I’m glad I bought it from Best Buy who gave me a reward which I used to buy something else.

Very happy with this and similar Brother units. I have one at my office and home. The outgoing fax line is loud ( haven’t figured out how the make it quiet. It best to use original toner and drum units. After market brands not nearly as good. I would give it 5 stars if it was quieter, and if the Drum and Toners would be a little bit less expensive.

This laser printer is a good value. It works well. It prints fast and is reasonably quiet. Only 4 stars because you cannot purchase an additional tray for the paper and printing mixed sized (legal and letter) document packages such as loan packages really leaves you wanting a better printer. Other than the paper tray issue I recommend this printer.

An Excellent , No-Frills Printer For Moderate Use

All in all, a pretty decent performer. I have only had it for a few days, but it prints text well and seems to have a good build quality. It feels very solid. The lack of color does not bother me; I generally only print in black and white anyway. It was fairly easy to set up, I went online to do so and to get drivers. It is nice that the unit includes a CD for those that do not have an internet connection. The unit is pretty fast when printing, makes good copies. I am giving the product 4 stars rather than 5 because there is no manual for the product. If you want to see the manual, you have to go to Brother's website and hunt it down. I am of the older generation; in my day one got a full manual with the product. If I want to have a manual(which is over 500 pages), I would have to waste a lot of toner. The machine has a lot of features, and it will take me a lot of time to learn them because I will have to go back and forth to the PC in order to fully learn the machine. I would definitely be willing to pay extra to have a full manual. Another drawback is the cost of toner and drums. I have found out that not only does toner have to be replaced every so often, so does the drum. Standard toner runs $40+. The drum costs $100+. It puts one in the position of spending almost as much for those two items as one spent on the printer itself. But, this may be the industry standard and not limited to this machine. As stated before, the print quality for text is excellent and the speed is fast. For occasional and low volume use, it is ideal. If you do not use color when printing or print out photos, it is a good model for its price range. Overall, I am happy with its performance. However, I have only had it for a short time, so time will tell.

I run a small business and I bought this printer to replace my Canon printer mainly due to the fact that I wanted a laser printer instead of an inkjet printer. But once I set up the Brother printer and started using it, I realized I had upgraded on so many different levels. I live in a loft and I’m currently pregnant so my room upstairs is where I do most of my work. I love the ease of being able to print documents from my bed then come downstairs when I’m ready to file them. Also the setup was a breeze!

Having used HP printers for years and watching their quality and ease of use drop, I switched to Brother printers at both my home and office, this black and white laser all-in-one works flawlessly and offers quality document scanning and quick laser printing for those times I still need it,

Best product for your money. I’ve always been using hp and this is actually my first Brother Laser printer it was recommended to me via friend and I am happy I listened. Super good for home or office use. Outside plastic not the best quality but lets not forget is just a printer and nothing more. I would recommend it any day.

Extremely painful setup. Virtually no network diagnostics for either wired or wireless. Competitors simply print a page of ALL network settings, so easy. Demands an SSID and password for a WIRED connection. Does not appear to support DHCP, although with the dearth of diagnostics I couldn't tell. My router did not show wired/wireless anything. I finally used a USB A-B cable (remember them?) to communicate to the printer and set it up. I forced static IP addresses & got it on my network and printed a test page successfully. Setup told me to disconnect USB, and the printer went dead! The driver was set to use USB! With an IP, I re-installed with TCP/IP easily. The Brother Utilities "Status Monitor' does nothing. The 'Network Connection Repair Tool' gives no diagnostics. The paper Step 8 of a wired connection describes yadda-yadda-yadda and then go to step 8; an infinite loop. Only a Freshman writes a plain-as-day infinite loop. Unless you use USB or are expert on TCP/IP/DHCP, buy some other printer.

This printer replaced my last Brother laser of 14 years, which got fried during a storm. It's working great, install was easy and prints double sided - bonus saving on paper. Would give it 5 stars if the Brother App that was suggested to use was more reliable and intuitive. I ditched it and am using Mac OS utilities. Bought the Geek plan and am using a surge protector as well to avoid another fried board.

I've been using this for awhile now. It's the best printer I've owned. It get more use than originally thought due to working from home. Best of all it works on all the computers and mobile devices we have in the house, regardless of which operating system it's on. Being able to print from Linux and Android is such a time saver.
