Excellent wi-fi printer

This one is wi-fi capable and has ink cartridges for each color instead of all in one cartridge. While it seems like the ink is expensive at first glance, it really is better because you only have to buy the color you need as it depletes.

Awesome for the cost

This one seems to fulfill that claim. Although the set up was hampered by the small screen, you only do it once. For a tad over $110, I have a great 4 function printer and also replacement inks to over me when the initial cartridges run out.

Had issues connecting it to my laptop.

My laptop doesn’t have a cd drive so had to download the driver off brother website. The computer that does have a cd drive, when I inserted the disk in my laptop it didn’t download automatically and the cd doesn’t help at all. The cd is a waste, still had to go online to download the driver.

Great Choice for my First Brother

For the money the Brother MFC-J497DW turned out to be a very good choice. It's a bit more work to set up, but works very well. A bit of a caution - I was using a 3' printer cable and had a buy a 6' one to keep my desk set-up. Otherwise, the MFC-J497DW was a wise choice and worth the effort to switch from HP to Brother.
