    Dumb bulbs

Tried several different ways to get these bulbs to do more than to act as dumb bulbs. Instructions are almost non-existent and the ones on the box don't work. Ended up finding a youtube video with some of the most ridiculous steps to reset the bulbs. Downloaded the app for android and found that these bulbs don't work at all other than to act as regular dumb bulbs. I was well within 40 feet and tried to connect. Cut the distance in half. No connect. Stood under the bulb and same nothingness. Cannot recommend something that doesn't work. Avoid.

    Not great with Amzn Echo's

C-Life works great as a stand alone using the C-by GE App. However I should have listen to the reviews when more than 80% of the reviews said it had a hard time getting Amazon products to communicate with this bulb. I have the Echo Show and Echo Plus in the home and the skill just would not find the bulbs within the home. I attempted everything from factory resets on the bulbs to resets on the echo plus. I'll say I'm very Tech savvy , however after 2 1/2 hours of reading descriptions and just shy of a dozen attempts to get Alexa to learn the skill, it was back to the BBY store... I hope there's a firmware or skill update in the near future that corrects this however till then it seems this product works best with the Google hub devices or using the app directly on the mobile devices.

First of all, to the people complaining of not having step by step instructions, do you REALLY need them ? I mean, download the Google Home app, twist bulb into socket turn on bulb, app will find the new bulb, follow app.instructions . Bulb blinks, press yes. That's it. It's all in the free app. On/Off, dimming.etc. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy .lol

I am already a firm believer of these bulbs. I was going to install a bulb in a lamp and dropped the bulb on a concrete floor. After it bounced two or three times I installed and it worked perfectly. Again I highly recommend. I am very computer challenged and with Google they are easy and great. My first “Smart”anything.

Average smart light bulbs without a Google Home

Set up is simple if it goes without any issues. The issue I have is that my Google Home by Insignia is not able to see the smart light bulbs at all. I am able to control them via the GE C Life app but that means without a phone being around they will just operate as normal light bulbs. Since I have a third party Google Home I'm not able to used them to their full potential. Without a Google Home their best use as outside lights with a set scheduled. I still give them a fair rating since they worked well with the app. Unfortunately without the benefits of being able to control them outside the home like other smart light bulbs. Hopefully GE can release a firmware update to make them compatible with third party Google Home.

These bulbs are supposed to work without a hub. Well they might if you have a google home mini or some other Google hub. C by GE has their own app and the bulbs can be controlled by the app, but if you want voice control you need a google hub, or some other hub in order to get voice control. I have invested in the Amazon ecosystem and it generally works very well. I have a variety of bulbs and switches hooked up to my system, but I can’t connect these bulbs without buying another device. The bulbs work fine and are dimmable. If you already have a Google Home device, they probably work fine, if you don’t, then I either get one, or I wouldn’t recommend these bulbs.

I purchased these and they are great. I was able to put at least one in each room to have control all over my house. The only issue was a bad connection with google home. Resulting in me resetting each bulb (google it) only to find out I needed to reboot google home.

Easy set up with Google Home. Has brightness control. However connectivity and reliable responsiveness has been an ongoing issue necessitating resets, cycling power to the light despitei it's close proximity and strong WiFi signal. Can be annoying if the failure occurs when away from home.

    Glitchy as Hell!

For the first three months of ownership, the C by GE, work as advertised. Then, the disconnects started. Error messages from my Google Home Hub, started telling me there was a problem. Each problem required me unscrewing the bulb, and reconnecting to Google Home. Then these disconnects continued, now at a rate of once a month. Reconnecting, it's hit or miss. Sometimes, the bulb just decide to take the weekend off, and reconnect itself. I think the replacement, will be a Philips product.

I was able to install and connect the bulbs with google mini right away when I first installed it. Few days later the connection with google mini didnt work, i also tried installing the GE C App and that didnt help too. I tried doing factory reset based on the instructions provided https://support.cbyge.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015805191-How-To-Factory-Reset-Your-C-by-GE-Smart-Bulbs and bulb never got reset.

Hi there! We are sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue. Google Home has been experiencing technical issues for several weeks now due to some recent updates they have been pushing. Whenever your bulbs stop responding to the Google Home app or voice commands, the first thing you should always try is simply rebooting your Google Home Mini. The Google Home Mini is the controller device, therefore it is responsible for establishing a connection to your bulbs. Rebooting will usually force it to re-establish the connection. However, if the bulbs have been unlinked from the Google Home app, they will need to be manually reset and put back into Bluetooth pairing mode in order for them to be discovered by either app. If you are unable to reset your bulbs, make sure you are turning them on for 8 seconds, off for 2 seconds repeatedly until you see the bulbs flash. Try using a stopwatch, the reset video on our website, or counting slower or faster. An of course do not try resetting them in a three-way lamp with multiple settings. Only standard on/off lamps will work. If you are still unable to reset them, contact our Support and we will be more than happy to count out the reset with you over the phone.

'C' by GE is a bust

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I would not buy 'C' bulbs again. They require a hub. To work on Alexa or Google they require special setup. They continually loose connection to the 'C' app. To reconnect the bulbs to the app you must be within, what seems like, a Blurtooth range; then reconnection takes a couple of minutes. The folllowing is from 'C' by GE support: - C by GE bulbs (the newer version, or with updated firmware) work with some compatible Google Home devices, without the need for an additional hub or bridge. .... Keep in mind, not all third party Google Home "hubs" are compatible with our light bulbs. - For Alexa, all C by GE lights must be connected to the C by GE app first via a C-Reach hub or one of our C-Start smart switches or Smart Plug. They will not be discovered by Alexa if this condition is not met. - Last, if you don't have a C-Reach hub or one of our Smart Switch devices you will only be able to add the bulbs to either the C by GE app or the Google Home app, not both.

C by GE products are junk. They will not stay connected and they must be reset constantly at least twice a week if not more often. I wish I had never bought them and unfortunately I've owned it them long enough so that I cannot get a refund. Colossal waste of money.

Will not work with Smartthings, these are BT bulbs

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I got these for $4 when I bought a Google Nest Mini, now I see why they were practically giving them away. If you are a Smartthings user, pick different bulbs and make sure they are compatible with Smartthings. I also wouldn't suggest these for standalone use either, app kept losing contact with them, so did Google...both within a foot of the bulbs. Resetting the bulbs is tedious, 8 seconds on, 2 seconds off, rinse n repeat 5 or 6 times for bulb to reset.

The name says Bluetooth, but -

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The lights are nice and bright but they need more than just bluetooth to work. The description says there's supposed to be a user guide - there isn't. I found some easy instructions on their website. I installed the app and tried to set them up. Nothing happens. The app crashed. Restarted and it crashed again. Restarted the phone, the app froze up this time and still didn't pair or link with the lights. Quite a disappointment. ALSO - for only using 9.5 watts, these things get pretty toasty - be careful where you touch the light because the base gets VERY HOT.

    Impossible to install multiple bulbs.

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

So I have tried installing two bulbs for the better part of 3 hours this evening. I can get one bulb installed relatively easily, but whenever I attempt to add the second bulb, it deletes the first bulb off of my network. Thinking this could be some obscure wiring issue with my two kitchen pendelum lights, I opted to try a different kitchen light on a different switch. I left the one working bulb above the island as a test and installed the second light above the sink. It added successfully but deleted the island light. Went through this song and dance multiple times trying various trouble shooting things before calling tech support. GE tech support (1-844-302-2943) told me if the lights turn on at all when screwed in, it’s a Google issue and they gave me a different number to call. Google tech support (1-855-971-9121) walked me through basic troubleshooting that I had already done ad-nauseam before calling them (reset my google home, unlink the devices and re-link the device, rename bulbs, factory reset the bulbs - an absurd process FYI) before telling me she would forward my concern to a higher level of tech support and they would either call or email within 24 hours... We’ll see if that happens. Meanwhile, I tried installing the bulbs in separate rooms on separate devices; Thinking maybe it was an issue with having multiple lights assigned to the same room, or having multiple lights assigned to the same google device. So I set up a new google mini in the living room. Got the mini connected quickly and without issue. Added the bulb to a nearby living room lamp, and set up the new room in the Google Home app... same results as before. While it successfully added the new bulb to my network, it deleted the previously paired kitchen light. For some reason, I cannot get more than one GE bulb to work on my network. Any attempts to install a second, in any room and on any device, results in the first device being disconnected. It’s absurd. Would recommend going another route with a company that has a superior product and actual tech support. I have 6 other bulbs it doesn’t look like I’ll be using.

Hello, smithc1080. We are sorry to hear this has happened. This is definitely a unique case, since the C by GE team has not gotten any other reports of this occurring. It is suggested to try a set up, just on the C by GE app, not using any other devices/apps and see if the same happens. Feel free to reach back to the C by GE Team if you do not hear from Google about the Home app/mini devices.
