    Weekly Reboots

A few times a week the GE lights simply stop responding. Very often the Home devices and app will behave as if the lights are responding and still give an audio response that the light has been turned off or on as well as the settings in the app behaving the same way. It's even not out of the ordinary for the lights to respond to my request and the Home devices to respond the the light isn't responding. I have 7 lights being controlled by Google Home. 6 GE and 1 Geeni. I don't have the problem with the Geeni light. Yes, the Geeni still responds when the GE don't. I reboot the Home devices and the lights will start to respond about half the time. Otherwise, I just need to forget about it. If they stop responding in the evening, they're usually responding by the morning. So I would say wait 12 hours before doing the factory reset on the individual bulbs. But reboot the home devices again before resetting the bulbs as this does not take as long and sometimes works. If the bulbs still aren't responding after the 12 hour wait and the reset, reboot the devices again. If that doesn't work, just wait another 12 hours before trying again. The good news is that even though the bulbs my stop responding, the Home devices should still continue to respond to broadcast requests and controlling other devices such as a Roku.

Although the C-GE is sold together with Google Home, there is a known problem in connecting the two. After a considerable amount of time on with Google, I was told to call GE. More wasted time and then was sent back to Google. Finally, the Google tech admitted that there was a problem that they were working on and I was promosed a call once the situation was taken care of. Tumbleweeds.

They work when you first get them but a few months down the road you’ll have to reset the bulbs weekly. I have 6 bulbs bought at different times and from different stores. So its not a bad batch, this product is faulty. Changed all my bulbs to philips and havent had a problem since.

    Not compatible with Alexa

It says on the box it will work with Alexa. I tried all of the ways the app suggested to pair and after 2 hours I was done. So don’t be fooled like I was by the box. We looked up and you have to buy a bridge to make it work. I’d rather just buy a bulb that will work with Alexa.

Hi Bouncyball42! Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and to review our product. We are sorry to hear that you were unable to connect your new smart lights to Alexa. Our C by GE smart lights are "Made for Google" meaning, they will connect directly to any Google Home device without the need for a smart bridge device. C by GE smart lights are compatible with Alexa, but since they are Bluetooth-enabled, they do require a smart bridge device such as a C-Reach smart bridge, our C-Start smart switch, our smart plug, or our Sol lamp to connect to Alexa, HomeKit, or to be controlled remotely using the C by GE app when you are away from your home. The Echo Show 2 and Echo Plus both come with built-in "Zigbee" hubs. Although this allows you to connect certain smart home devices directly to Alexa without the need for a hub, those devices need to be Zigbee or Wifi-enabled to work. Bluetooth devices connect differently, so they will typically require a "smart bridge" device to connect and be controled over Wifi. Feel free to call us at 1-844-302-2943, email us at help@cbyge.com or live chat with us on cbyge.com if you have any questions. We will be more than happy to assist. Thank you! - C by GE Customer Support

    Not for Alexa devices.

Bulbs work great as light bulbs, but the tech at Best Buy forgot to tell us that these bulbs would only work with Alexa devices if you have the special hub. Started to use the app to control them since we couldn’t use our Alexa devices to control them and found out that only one person can use the app at a time.

Hi there! Since these are Bluetooth-enabled bulbs, they require a "Bridge" to connect to Wifi. Without a Wifi connection, Alexa can not control the bulbs which is why this device is necessary. You can use any one of our Smart Switches, Smart Plug, or C-Reach devices as a Bridge. If you have any questions or any additional concerns, feel free to contact our Customer Support team at 1-844-302-2943 or [email protected].

So far I’ve downloaded the app 3 or 4 times. It doesn’t let me login even when I received the email, says my account doesn’t exist. I tried to reset my password and it says that my email doesn’t exist when I received an email from them. I even try to create a second account and nothing works. I am not able to set up the lights with any assistant, not for Bluetooth, nothing works. Just go and buy something better. Smart home devices are expensive so don’t make my mistake and try to go cheap with devices like this.

Hello, Alexander. We are sorry to hear something like this has happened. It is recommended to set up your account/login on the app directly, since any account on the C by GE website does not roll over to the app. And depending on what type of other smart device you are trying to use, there could be a different set up. Have you reached out to our C by GE Team (844-302-2943 or [email protected]) for direct assistance?
      Thank you.

    Pretty disappointed

I have a couple of Hue lights and hooked them up to my Echo Plus without an additional hub no problem. So, having caught the smart home bug I bought eight of these GE bulbs because the description specifically mentions Alexa compatibility at least twice without any mention of a special hub. In fact, no mention is ever made of the apparently required C-Reach bridge, which I only learned about after the bulbs wouldn’t work. Suffice it to say I feel a bit misled.

      Hi Mars,

We regret to hear about this experience and apologize for any anguish this has caused. We strive to be as transparent as possible and we have heard similar feedback from other customers using Alexa. You are correct that a C-Reach, C by GE Smart Plug, or a C-Start Smart Switch is required to bridge our bulbs to Alexa. The bulbs are "Made for Google" and connect to a Google Home smart speaker directly over Bluetooth while the Google Home device serves as the internet gateway for the bulbs. We know that experiences like this are frustrating and sincerely hope that the next time you catch the smart home bug, it is more satisfying regardless if it is with our products. If you ever need any advice, please don't hesitate to call our team and we will be happy to help! Feel free to call us at 1-844-302-2943, email us at help@cbyge.com or live chat with us on cbyge.com if you ever have any questions. - C by GE Customer Support

We're sorry that you experienced issues using our bulbs with Google Home. In order to add our bulbs to the Google Home app you will need a Google Home hub devices for example "Google Nest Mini" or any other hub. This will allow you to pair our bulbs to the app. If you do have a Google Home Device and its not picking up our bulbs we recommend power cycling the device or even factory resetting it. Please feel free to reach our support team if you have any questions at 1-844-302-2943 or email us at [email protected]
