    Great product

This thing has so many different lighting options. not like crazy hue blue red purple color changes. but from bright White light that wakes you up all the way down to candlelight that makes you sleepy. The thing that this product doesn't do well is informing you of all the commands that you need to use with your assistant of choice. you'd be wasting it if all you did was ask your assistant to turn it on and off. you can ask for Bright white (super blue ivory color to wake you up), White (the regular daylight at 3k) and then dim also. Which you can control from your phone. Now there are two apps you can use this with. Maybe three since of alexa but I dont have Alexa. They push you to set it up with the google home app and you do. But once you do it doesn't even show you all the color options. nor does the product tell you how to get the color options as well. the phone from the google home app can turn on/off the lghts and dim them as well. but you have to get the color of the lights throgh voice. Using the GE app, you can find 3 options of colors to choose from. Now come the google home hub (with Screen) once I got that, I was presented with 6 color options. Aside that. After learning all the color options. Oh boy, Ivory wakes you up, white is just a nice daylight look, and candlelight put to dim just seriously is perfect for those who want to go to sleep.

Product launch rushed? Not ready for prime time!

    Pros mentioned:
    App, Color, Google home
    Cons mentioned:
    Bluetooth

The features on the website and packaging can be misleading. The website touts the ability to have the light bulb change colors based on the scene. Which sounds good on paper but it’s not exactly the bill of goods that was sold. Let me further explain. To utilize the full capabilities of these bulbs, you will need to use the GE app found in the iphone app store. This may sound good but the app doesn’t support voice control. This is where Google Home app comes into play. Google home app will let you control the bulbs via voice but the caveat is that you CANNOT setup the bulb to both the GE app and be setup with Google Home app. This is the limitation of Bluetooth. These bulbs are Bluetooth driven and not wifi driven. Google home app vs GE app? That will depend on what you want to do with the bulbs. If you want the bulbs to do everything that’s advertised on their website, then setup with the GE app. The GE app will allow you to set “scenes”. Some examples would be to wakeup in the morning to a 2,000 kelvin color temperature at 25% brightness. Sounds great but no voice control. That means you will need to use the app to turn on and off the bulb in your lamp. Talk about a pain in the rear end. If you want to voice control your lights, you will need to set the bulbs up with the Google Home app. This will allow you to turn the lights on and off by voice. Which is the #1 reason why I got these. The problem is that the google home app doesn’t have the automation or scene choices like you can find in the GE app. The Google home app will allow you to turn on or off and the brightness levels. No color temperature changes within the app. You can however, change the color temperature by saying “hey google, change my lights to soft white” or “hey google, change my lights to 3,000 kelvin” to change the bulb colors. Talk about major confusion! You also can’t setup automation to wake up with a cooler color temp with google home. Sigh. Why can’t I have both? Pros • Can adjust colors from 2000k to 7000k • Voice activated via Google Home/Mini • 65w is great for a lamp • Similar sized to conventional light bulbs Cons • Setup can be tricky • Resetting the bulbs is a tricky process. Did I say TRICKY? • Bluetooth can only connect to GE app or Google Home App. Not both • Not ready for the masses Summary: It’s not easy to setup. I had to do a hard factory reset to get them to work. The factory reset takes a special sequence of on and off to get them to reset. Very complicated! You will have to pick which app to setup the bulbs with. This is determined by which features are important to you. Want all the features and the ability to setup colors and brightness based on your circadian rhythm? Set it up with GE app. Want voice activation? Set it up with the Google Home app. You can’t have both and that’s why im giving it 3 stars out of 5. The bulbs are capable but I believe the app control is lack luster and holds this product back. It could be due to the limitations of Bluetooth. I just expected more.

    App needs more improvements

Setup is simple easy via GE app and requires BT to connect which I don't like. Light is awesome and has 3 variant colors but functionality of the app is so bad it glitches out several times and every time I open it up I notice lights are on but they are actually off when I personally check them so it's not reliable and an app you may trust. with C-reach hub by GE you can add skills to Alexa to control it via voice and remotely via wifi. if you would like to control the lights remotely you need to consider buying C- reach hub by GE for $49. I tried using Alexa and Google to voice turn on and off light and looked stable so far. No Apple HomeKit support yet.

Not bad, but better options out there...

The GE C-Sleep bulbs provide 800 Lumens of output and use 10 Watts of power. They connect via Bluetooth to my Google home/mini very easily. They do have to be within a certain range, they recommend that the google device be in the same room, but I have mine in the kitchen and it controls it fine in my upstairs master bedroom. There is a C by GE app that you can download and use instead of using a google device, but I did not try that out. The box says that the lights can phase through three different outputs from cool (white) for the morning, to soft white (during the day) to warm (yellowish) for the night. However, that feature is ONLY available if you use the C by GE app and not google home. Maybe that will change in the future. If you want to be able to control the lights from outside your home, you will either have to get the C-Reach bridge device or use a smart plug to do that. Chances are you won’t have a need to control them that way though, since I found that schedules work just fine to simulate someone being home and most of the time that I do use voice control is when I am first coming home and my hands are full of stuff or I am already in bed. These are a pretty inexpensive way to install smart bulbs in your home, but I wouldn’t put them everywhere. I prefer the Philips hue products over these, but they are a lot more expensive. This is a good set for usage in certain areas, say in bedrooms.

The light bulbs I got may have had the same item code...but the packaging was completely different. Plus there is no mention of being able to be linked to Alexa on the packaging. And guess what....it won't work with Alexa! I had to return it....and its going to cost me to ship it which is unfair because Best Buy didn't send me what was advertised. Im paying for their mistake.

I’m a huge believer in mood lighting. I know if I want to just chill to have a low watt bulb in a lamp by my bed but sometimes you just need to zap yourself awake. The GE light bulbs accomplish that without fuss. I can adjust the brightness or dimness to my liking and holler to my Google Home to switch on the lights in a jiffy. Next to screwing in a light bulb, these are some pretty easy smart lights to set up! A super huge win here is I don’t have to get out of bed during cold winter nights to shut the lights off. I can do it on my app or let my google assistant know. These will be awesome gifts for holidays and birthdays!

I love these bulbs! I love that they have two options for white light: ivory and daylight. I love being able to change the color just buy asking my Google Assistant, or by simply using my Google Home Hub. I definitely recommend these! I am not too tech savvy, but these are super easy to set up, but I would not recommend using the GE app if you have Google Home App. Google makes it effortless to use.

Great Idea - But Hampered by Restrictions

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    App, Google home

I really wanted to like the new GE bulbs. In the sea of smart lighting products, the C-Sleeps offered a great idea of being able to control the temperature of the light, cool white to warm yellowish-orange as well as brightness. The appeal of working with my Google Home right out of the box without relying on an external hub was a huge draw. Sadly, the disappointment set in pretty quickly - I have several Philips Hue lights throughout our house and I enjoy being able to control from my Google Home and mobile App. The biggest limitation here is that the bulbs cannot be managed by both the Google Home as well as the GE App. That means that I can't control the lamps from my Google Home if I have the bulbs setup in the App - which isn't explained. The App makes you think that you can link them, but linking requires an external GE Hub, that's the same Hub you need if you want to control these lights with an Amazon Alexa. The other odd thing is the range of the brightness - the lowest setting you can push the lights to is 5%, which is also brighter than the 5% of the same wattage Philips bulbs I tried to replace. My daughters actually asked me to take the lights out of their rooms because it was too bright and they couldn't fall asleep. If GE can remove this odd restriction - of limiting the control of the devices to a single touchpoint, then I would change my mind and review.

I bought these for use with Apple HomeKit, so I had to buy the Bridge elsewhere since Best Buy doesn't carry them. I have found I sometimes have to unplug and plug the bridge back in as it doesn't always reconnect to the wifi after my wifi switch resets every night. When this happens I cant even control the lights from GE app which can be annoying. Also, sometimes the lights that are paired together will be on different settings which doesn't really make sense to me but oh well, overall they work fine and still cheaper than the alternative.

This is ideal for a google mini/nest homes with no smart home hub, as you can pair devices to google home directly via bluetooth and it will make a bluetooth mesh, as long as you place all devices within 40 ft of each other. For alexa integration, it will require addons, such as a c-reach, but ideally a plug or a smart switch, as they have built in hubs that enable comms via wifi to alexa assistant. Also, for the first case, you either setup in google home or the c by ge app, but not both, as one will not port over to the other. Configuration in the c by ge app can work, but the interface is somewhat unintuitive, so recommend quick setup via google home instead. Also, if you run into snags with any of the setup methods, the c by ge tech support is great at walking you through questions/issues that may arise. I've read prior gen reviews and theyre pretty bad, but seems like this gen is much improved, give it a try, they have great options and at a reasonable price.

    Would be better as WiFi

    Color

I had these lights up for a few weeks, and now I can say that I have noticed a difference in my kids' energy levels. Well as much as one can, for a 4 and 6 year old. The evening warm light color is nice, as opposed to the bright white LED that we had in their bedrooms before. The Bluetooth connect feature seems like it should be WiFi only. I have had a heck of a time connecting to my other Ilumi LED color lights all the time, so I just live with the fact that they are not gonna work when j want it to. These GE sleep bulbs are working, but I just don't use the app to turn them off/on. I can see if it were to be used for an automatic on/off light, but this is not the one to do that with. I would only get these for the automated color change with time of day, to adjust for energy level and purpose. I had to factory reset the bulbs before they would connect. The Google Home device I have, connected directly, so I didn't need the GE app that they want you to install. It depends on the purpose, but I'd rather use the Google Home app for off/on than the GE one. I wish I could connect remotely and turn them off/on for my dog if we are gone for an extended time. I'd also like to see the ability to customize the times for evening start times. With Kids, your days are different than as adults.

I was planning to return it, but my cats decided to roller-coaster through my kitchen, spilling a cup of coffee that was located where I had carefully selected as “safe from cats” So I had set the box there until I could remember to take it back. So, I guess it’s mine now

Great Introduction to Smart Light Bulbs

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
    App, Color, Ease of use
    Cons mentioned:
    Bluetooth

Pros: 3 color temperature settings, simple interface, great smart light budget choice Cons: not so great smart option for integrating with Google Home, limited bluetooth mesh range, setting up timers (automation) is not very intuitive. I have several Google Home speakers throughout my home and have been using smart outlets to turn my lamps on and off and have had my eye on the Philips Hue lighting products since they were released several years ago, but have held off on getting any because they are so expensive. I was hoping prices would come down, but instead they’ve remained mostly the same. I told myself that if I were to get into smart bulbs, they need to do more than just turn on and off. I would want at least different white color temperatures. The C-Sleep bulbs fit the bill and I would get two for less than the Hue offerings. Note, unless you’re getting a Wi-Fi bulb, you will need to buy a bridge if you want to control your smart lights by voice. The C-Sleep bulbs are no different. I have a Google Home Mini in my bedroom and this is where I installed my two bulbs, in my nightstand lamps. Setup was relatively easy using the C by GE app. Before I added the devices to my Google Home account, I wanted to see how the native app performed. It gets the job done and changing settings are very straightforward. The online help isn’t very helpful in getting timers set up, which is what I tried to set up. One setting is for morning with bright white to turn on before I wake up and then turn off after an hour. The other setting is for night with warm white to turn on at bedtime and turn off by midnight. The on screen prompts are vague and don’t tell you if the automation entry is going to turn the light on or off. Integrating with Google Home isn’t that great. There are no controls other than on/off and brightness that can be made within the Google Home app. Changing color temperatures has to be done by voice. It would be the same for automation I’m guessing, but I didn’t even attempt it. What makes things worse is that you have to choose between either the native C by GE app where you gain more granular control through the screen or use the Google Home app where you gain voice control, but lose granular control. There is an exception, the native C by GE app has 3 fixed color temperatures 2000K, 3700K, and 7000K (approximate). With Google Home/Assistant, you can specify the color temperature, but you have to do so through voice. Range - without a bridge, range is very limited using the built-in bluetooth (mesh). My phone struggles to get a connection outside of my bedroom. Range with my Google Home Mini used as a bridge over WiFi is great, but on screen controls and functionality are both gimped in comparison to the native app. So who is this smart bulb for? If you want basic automation and the ability to turn lights on/off with your phone while in the same room or looking for an introduction to smart light bulbs, the C-Sleep bulbs are great for that. If you want deeper integration with your smart home with Alexa or Google Home while maintaining the same access to on screen control, I say look elsewhere.

Good Value but tricky home integration

    Posted .
    Pros mentioned:
App, Ease of use, Google home

I have lots of Phillips Hue light bulbs and while I love them, they are pricey. I'm also heavily invested in the Google Home ecosystem. I was glad to put some new smart bulbs into my house in a place where color wasn't important (the bedroom). So I figured I would give these a try. First, I want to comment the GE bulbs as bulbs. They work great, they produced warm, cool and bright lighting, perfect for any situation (yes, even sleeping which they're obviously intended for). In terms of just screw in and use, they work great. I really like the warm hues both in the morning and night to give you some light just to see, but also give you the ability to fall asleep and wake up a little easier (rather than a harsh bright light). In terms of their "smarts." I found them to be a bit tricky. I have to reiterate, I'm heavily invested in Google Home, with multiple Home speakers, security cameras, lights, switches, vacuums, etc. I like the Google Home app because it finally gives you a good user interface to control a variety of products in one app (rather than opening Arlo app to look at cameras, and then Phillips Hue to turn lights on, etc.). These are ready to go out of the box, no bridge like the Phillips Hue. If you are just getting into smart lighting, the no bridge route is the way to go. You literally just have to screw these into the socket and then go to setup. Now this is where I ran into some issues. I screwed them in the bedroom and hopped on the Google Home app. I was able to find them the first time, but they wouldn't connect. After two attempts, they worked (I didn't do anything differently) and I was able to integrate them into the Google Home app. They worked fine... in terms of turning them on and off. Now, if all you want are bulbs that you can turn on and off with your phone or app, then I just accomplished the goal. But, I wanted to be able to use these bulbs on a schedule where they would put off a warm hue at night and in the morning automatically. You cannot do that from the Google Home app (admittedly, I couldn't figure out, I am not saying it's not possible). To do that, you have to download the GE app. To my chagrin, I downloaded the app. I am loathe to having extra apps on my phone. I realize for my smart home devices, you generally have to have it (Arlo for example) to set up the devices and then incorporate them into Google Home app. But I thought these were self sufficient bulbs and that you could use their sleep lighting features directly through Google Home. Anyways, I downloaded the GE app and I was unable to find bulbs. I eventually had to unlink them from Google Home and then re-set them up through the GE app. It was clunky, then you have to set the schedules for the sleep cycles through that app. At the end of the day, they work as advertised and if you like having night lighting at your bedside, rather than harsh lights with one brightness level, they are a great value when compared to other smart bulbs (looking at you Phillips Hue). But they were a bit convoluted to set up and it forced me to get another app. Again, small first world problems, and shouldn't be a dealbreaker but it was annoying to me. To me, these bulbs are best served for people who are first building/creating their smart home. If I wasn't so invested in Phillips hue and sunk money in it, I would have started with these GE bulbs. i just wish I could use (or figure out how to use) the sleep cycle schedules within the Google Home app which controls my entire house.

    App, Color, Ease of use

I am a sucker for home control. I have switches, outlets, bulbs… the whole bit. To think that there are bulbs designed specifically for the bedroom seems to be a bit much, but that’s exactly what GE has done with the C-Sleep Smart Bulbs. The first thing I noticed when opening the package was that there was nothing inside but the bulbs. The instructions are so simple that they are written in 4 simple steps on the back of the box. And about that box, the bulbs weren’t packaged quite as well as I would expect. The cardboard mold used to hold the bulbs was not very secure. My bulbs were loose inside the box. The bulbs themselves are well built, fitting the mold of most LED options. Well, I followed the instructions, and voila! The setup is truly that simple. You can connect to these bulbs using your Google Home or directly to your phone via the C by GE app. Following the setup wizard on the app, you can establish connection to the bulbs. This process was simple and fast; I had both bulbs up and running in no time. Everything seems to work extremely well. The 3 light modes operate seamlessly. I was pleasantly surprised by how responsive the bulbs are, and I was impressed with lighting performance. Each mode gives off a vibrant glow with distinct color tones. I was a bit skeptical of the ‘calm’ mode, but I must say, it is very warm and relaxing. The ‘active’ mode is bright but seems to be a bit on the blue side in comparison to other bulbs. The ‘vibrant’ mode gives off one of the best soft white lights I’ve seen. Add to this the ability to setup rooms, scenes, and voice activation – that’s a pretty decent lighting controller. I see the C-Sleep Smart Bulbs as a viable solution for new or veteran smart home users. The easy setup, responsiveness, flexibility, and reasonable price make this one of the best lighting options out there. I highly recommend giving these a try.

    Cool light bulbs!

So far we really like these light bulbs. We installed them in our master bedroom. It’s funny to us just how effective light is in assisting with our various moods of the day. Installation is a cinch. Just take them out of the box and put them in the fixtures. Setup is a snap with the Google Home app. Make sure the lights are actually on before you try setup! These are our first lights that can be voice activated and it really a cool nuance to ask Google to turn on your lights, lol! These lights have three different tones designed to be used at different times of the day. Any of the tones can be dimmed. It was surprising at how effective the bright white is in the morning at making you more alert and putting a little pep in your step. We use the middle tone in the late afternoon as we begin to wind down from our day and the yellowest tone at night after the sun goes down. It really does help unwind before going to bed. The only thing that prevents me from giving 5 stars is the time settings. It would be nice to be able to set the tone to switch automatically at the various times of the day. It does in a sense, which I will try to explain. You can program the lights to come on at a certain time of the day and in a certain tone, but if the lights are on and that time comes it does not make the tone change automatically and you have to change manually. If the lights are off, they will turn on at the time and tone you set them too. It would be nice if in the morning when I turned on the lights myself they would turn on at bright white automatically but they do not. I have to turn on the lights and then change the tone in the app. All in all, these lights are pretty cool and I would recommend.
