Great Idea - But Hampered by Restrictions

In the sea of smart lighting products, the C-Sleeps offered a great idea of being able to control the temperature of the light, cool white to warm yellowish-orange as well as brightness. The appeal of working with my Google Home right out of the box without relying on an external hub was a huge draw. Sadly, the disappointment set in pretty quickly - I have several Philips Hue lights throughout our house and I enjoy being able to control from my Google Home and mobile App. The biggest limitation here is that the bulbs cannot be managed by both the Google Home as well as the GE App. That means that I can't control the lamps from my Google Home if I have the bulbs setup in the App - which isn't explained. The App makes you think that you can link them, but linking requires an external GE Hub, that's the same Hub you need if you want to control these lights with an Amazon Alexa. The other odd thing is the range of the brightness - the lowest setting you can push the lights to is 5%, which is also brighter than the 5% of the same wattage Philips bulbs I tried to replace. My daughters actually asked me to take the lights out of their rooms because it was too bright and they couldn't fall asleep. If GE can remove this odd restriction - of limiting the control of the devices to a single touchpoint, then I would change my mind and review.

Wouldn't Stay Connected

When I used the app or voice control they would actually respond about 60% of the time. Other times I'd have to get up and physically turn of the light switch, defeating the purpose of a smart bulb. I tried factory resetting, trouble shooting, and even a new pack of bulbs. I'd like to think that I got a defective batch or did something wrong on my end, but they unfortunately just didn't work well for me and I ended up returning them.

Due to Google Home's recent Nest integration we have been seeing quite a few of our "Made for Google" users who have been experiencing these same issues. In most cases, the bulbs either lost power, or were turned off at the light switch and their Google Home device failed to re-establish the Bluetooth connection. Most of the users have found success in simply power cycling the Google Home device (unplugging it and plugging it back in again), or rebooting it from the Google Home app. Please note: This must be done before you try unlinking the bulbs from the app or try factory resetting the bulbs. As far as the bulbs not being discovered by the C by GE app, since they are Bluetooth-enabled bulbs, they can only be paired to one app at a time. Not great

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had a heck of a time installing these bulbs, even with the native C by GE app. Once connected they don't stay connected, so it's a new setup experience when you want to use them. Tried to integrate with Alexa. Only worked once, as it keeps losing the setup. Don't bother. I'm just using them as regular bulbs at this point.

Constantly losing connection to Google Home

They can change the brightness and warmness level of a room very well. However, the lights keep disconnecting to my Google home. The reset process is not intuitive and I have to find the video on how to reset them every time. My suggestion is to find other smart lights.

Great concept but poor execution

Some of them will intermittently lose their connection with Google Home systems and then you have to mess around with resetting the lights. I ended up returning these. However, when they all worked correctly I really liked the idea of smart lights. Mine just weren't smart enough.

Frustrating

Owned for 4 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the color customization and dimming control via Google Home controls, and having my lights turn on and off on a schedule, but this brand is so frustrating. They randomly become unresponsive to my Google Home and stop turning on and off. For example, I will have my light switch turned on, and tell my Google Home Hub to “turn off the lights” and 1/4 or 2/4 will turn off, leaving the reaming 1 or 2/4 on. I then have to get out of bed and turn off the switch. I know, it sounds like a small thing to be upset at, but having to continually reset the bulb(s) and reconnect it is getting old. They have potential, but don’t seem to be quite there yet. I would pay more and try Philips Hue bulbs. I haven’t tried Philips yet, but I’ve seen they have better reviews. I wanted these to work because I didn’t want to have to buy a separate, pricey ‘bridge’ as Philips requires one with Google Home. When these bulbs work, they are great. But, they are unreliable.

Since our bulbs are simply Bluetooth-enabled bulbs, they essentially have two modes: connected (in which they are listening for a command from whatever device that controls them), or in pairing mode (in which they are emitting a signal for the controller device to find them and connect to them.) They themselves do not have the ability to "become unresponsive." If your bulbs stop responding, this means the device that is responsible for establishing the connection to them (your Google Home device) has dropped it's connection to them. You can usually resolve this issue by simply rebooting your Google Home device (unplugging it and plugging it back in again.) This will force it to re-establish the connection to them. As for voice commands not working, this unfortunately would be an issue pertaining to Google Home as our bulbs are simply Bluetooth-enabled bulbs, not the actual controller device. We would recommend reaching out to Google Home Support at 1-(855) 971-9121 if you are having issues with voice commands. - C by GE Customer Support

Ehhhh

They do for maybe about a week and then they are unresponsive! If you look at different articles on googles page, you’ll see people constantly saying how much you have to restart them. NOT WORTH THE TIME. But that’s just my opinion

Incorrect Bulb and Connection Issues

It had some really cool features, but one of the two bulbs was incorrect model type. I also had connection issues with my Google device and with the app. I returned and bought a different brand, which was much better.

Not user friendly.

The app that you need to use is borderline terrible and the functionality with Google Home is just not good enough. I went with the Anker bulbs instead and they work like a charm.

Had no luck with Alexa.

Have issue in the connection to google home.

Not the best implementation of a smart bulb
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off unless you are invested in the Google eco system these are not for you…you will need to have a Google Home Mini to operate these. The idea is a good one, different settings for your sleep and wake patterns and they are easy to dim or brighten with the Google Home app…again and good idea if it worked. Connecting the bulbs took a little while to accomplish and they lost connection a couple of times. The weird thing is these are not Wifi but Bluetooth driven and that connection seems problematic. Perhaps these are all functions that would allow better flexibility if there was an option to also utilize a Wink Hub which can do all the things the Google Home app can do but they are not WiFi bulbs which is probably the reason why these are not Zigbee, Wink or some other universal home automation platform. Not much more to say about these except don’t get them in my opinion…I would have expected more from GE.

There is a C by GE app that is available to control the bulbs, plus a C-Reach hub to work with Alexa and a different way to work with Google. Great Idea but Disappointing Implementation

While each light connected easily to Google Home without a hub, it did not allow for the scenes and effects because it required the C by GE app to create them. However, the only way to add the bulb to the app is by resetting it, which is no easy task. To reset a bulb, you need to turn it on for 5 to 10 seconds, turn it off for 2 seconds and then turn it on again and repeat this cycle TEN times. If you miss the timing, bad luck. You have to start it all over again. When you are done then you find out that you cannot control the light with Google Home anymore unless you reset the bulb again following the steps I already described which will disconnect from the Ge app. Alexa? It will not work with it unless you have a hub. This was one of the most frustrating device setup and reset I have experienced in years, if not ever. I have used two other brands for smart lights. One with a hub and another without it and my experience has been a lot better with those than with this C by GE. The different color temperatures are great and can be very bright or dim if you wish. No complaints about that. I wanted to like these smart bulbs but I am disappointed. Maybe with the hub it would work better but in that case, GE should make it clear that it is required. They have potential but I would not recommend them at this point.
