An ok Universal remote and HDMI switch
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very intrigued by the ability to get an interface to centralize my streaming services. I have been using Reelgood on my computer and love it. Thinking I can get something similar with this, nope. I first set it up in my living room which has an AVR(non 4k), 4k tv, 4k blurry with HDMI audio out and a Fire TV 3 and Harmony hub(hoping to replace with Caavo). My preferred set up wouldn't work. HDMI sound to receiver Video to tv. So I had to do sound for the Fire TV from the tv optical out to my receiver (loosing DD+. That's ok because I use My Blu-ray for Netflix and Amazon. Wait I can't default my Blu-ray as the default app for those. On top of that the remote couldn't change inputs on my receiver. Ok I removed the Caavo and put back my Harmony hub. In the process I blew my AVR. Ok I bought a new 4k compatible one. Thought it would be easier. Nope screen would black in an out during set up. Decided to give up and put back my Harmony. Ok off to the bedroom, where I lost the tv remote. Just a TV and Fire tv 2. Set up was fine. Now to the control center. First you are hit with my consideration which you have to scroll through recommendations be people I never heard of and content I have no interest in. Next to new episodes (not from my TV service PlayStation Vue) which Caavo says it opens and controls, wow like any other remote) the rest Trending is fine. Next to Crowd surfing. Ok Found usable. Pulled up a list, giving me links to Vudu? Really, not even on Fire TV's. Next to the useless My lists and Cache. Never remembers where I left off and only opens Netflix. After all that the search overrides the Fire search with their own, which is terrible. With all that being said, I will keep it, because I think the company really wants to make this better.

Works manually only, defeating purpose of it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So this will not auto play a program for you , takes you to a landing page when using voice commands, which doesn't really work most of time. Your sent to list to select from, which includes YouTube clips. Why would I want to see clips on YouTube of a show I want to watch doesn't make sense to me. Continuing problems with apple tv 4. Won't turn it on, I get error message program not available, so I have to use remote to turn on ATV and navigate away and back into app that has show. Again, why the monthly fee if I have to do everything manually. After multiple attempts to fix I finally chatted with support, whom, you guess it, couldnt help me. They escalated to higher tier and promised a call back , which never came. I waited around on a Sunday afternoon for a call that naver happened. What a waste of time. Needless to say, if you want this to work with voice commands that take you right to the lastest episode of a show, this is not for you. Save your subscription money, buy an Apple TV only, and use the voice search feature built into it. Regret buying this

Good idea but poorly executed.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started having problems right away and should have gone with my gut and returned it, but I really loved the idea and wanted it to work so I persisted using it for about 3 months, until today when I finally threw in the towel and tossed it in the garbage where it belongs. Cons: The remote quality - It's just terrible, it's a rectangle made out of cheap plastic with sharp edges. I've purchased $5 toys for my kids that felt better in my hand. The remote responsiveness - Most of the time when you grab the remote it doesn't work! You have to keep hitting the button until it finally wakes up. And yes I did replace the batteries several times with no luck. Black screens - Sometimes every 5 minutes the screen will go black! I contacted Caavo support and they told me to replace the HDMI cable, which I did with no luck. I wen ahead ordered a brand new top-rated HDMI cable and still get random black screens. Several times a day I hear my kids yelling that the screen went black while watching Netflix on Roku. The main unit - Also made out of the same cheap plastic as the remote. The remote finder button on it does not work! Subscription based. You need a subscription. $2 a month. Wouldn't mind paying if it actually worked. Pros: Google home integration It was on sale for $60 so at least I didn't waste the full $100

Spyware? In a Remote?

The voice search and all the fancy subscription services they off don't work for Youtube TV, so it's useless for me. I run ad blocking DNS on my home network and noticed a metric TON of network traffic out of this thing, calling home multiple times a second, even with nothing on. Plus, it's using like 14 different internet ports. They must be harvesting an enormous amount of data off my network. Yes, I can see the need for some internet traffic when using the voice or other services, but not to this degree, and not when I'm not even using my TV. Hey Caavo, care to share exactly what data you're collecting, why you need those ports open on my firewall, and why you want access to Google's public DNS? Secure, encrypted DNS not good enough for you?? If you don't want to explain, I'll just assume that Caavo's just a spyware box and you are selling data. I blocked the DNS requests, and the box went nuts, trying to phone home 500 times a second. So my little Caavo got it's plug pulled, and is now internet free.

Posted .To function normally Control Center needs a few basic ports open. These are the same ports your router needs open so it can access the internet normally. Control Center uses these open ports to power on and talk the devices you are trying to control. Control Center is not harvesting data from devices on your network. Using Google DNS is a safe and smart way to get DNS information. Terrible experience

This box was defective from the start. The Best Buy team was here for hours and they weren’t able to get the box to work properly. They claimed the box wasn’t very compatible with Sony TVs. If this was true, why did the Best Buy In Home services reprentative sell it to us? We’ve had nothing but problems with this box. Best Buy won’t let us return it even though they knew there was an issue with the box. Caavo is making us jump through hoops and it doesn’t seem likely they will honor the lifetime warranty we bought. This system has done nothing but infuriate and frustrate us. Do not buy this thing! If you have problems, you are out of luck!

This update will allow you to open the TV menu, access apps, switch inputs on your TV, etc. Our support team would love the chance to continue working with you to get to the bottom of the issues you are experiencing.
