    Constant false alarms

    You won't have any real security. Instead, you'll get constant false alarms that you'll stop paying attention to. Canary is a lot of hype, with no substance I'm afraid. I supported their kickstarter, but now I'm sad that I did :(

    Slowly Being Driven Into the Ground

    I bought this device about a year ago. Setup was easy, it worked really well, and did the things I wanted it to. They offer free and premium plans, but the free plan always had enough features to do its job. But now, they're in the process of releasing an update that takes away almost all features for free plans. It will no longer record video when I'm at home, not even at nighttime when I'm asleep and at risk for break-ins. Even when I'm away, it just stores a preview and expects me to pay for a plan to see the full thing. No more downloads, no more saves, all I can do is bookmark previews. Had this been the case from the day I bought it, I wouldn't care so much. But it's not fun to have features taken away when you rely on them. This product no longer makes me feel secure.

    2 way audio is not good. Downloading a video clip is 3 step process. you cant just press download and it saves locally. without membership, you cant download, you cant use 2 way communication.

    I love this so much I have bought them for several people in my family. I love that it doesn't need a monthly subscription. It stores 24 hrs, but really, if something goes wrong, you'll know within that time frame. If it's not enough, then pay the monthly subscription. It works really well and I get my alerts within the parameters I’ve set.

    Bought this with high expectations only to be let down trying to set it up. it was easy until it got to the 3 of 5 update. Contacted customer service and they said they sent a update and to try set up again. Same results. After wasting hours of my time I will return this dead weight like many of the other reviews do not waste your time on this one.

    If I can give them a zero star I would give them a zero star Canary home security systems cameras all that is the worst I’ve ever purchased if your family means anything to you if you value your family and your loved ones you would not purchase this garbage but they call cameras they don’t even stay connected you have to keep resetting it constantly with the modem I got the camera sitting right next to the modem and it still keeps freezing up this is junk he doesn’t belong to be in the market had to close this company down and destroy all these worthless cameras the money you pay for it it’s not worth it go to Amazon and get the cloud camera or the ring camera but stay away from Canary they’re the worst

    Canary offers the worst customer service experience i have ever gotten. They remove features and and force subscribtions to new plans. They are staying affloat on 6 year old devices. I sont see them staying around in 2 more years

    The system works well and I like the ability to be able to check my residences however don't buy more than one canary unit, or they will penalize you on the free timeline viewing. If you own one unit you'll get 24 hours recorded timeline, but if you buy two units instead of getting 48 hours you'll only get 12 hours, it would be okay and understandable if you got 24 hours but they penalize/ rob the time we paid for. Forcing you to join the membership to view the timeline and the recordings for a longer time frame. But keep in mind the more Canarys the more per month and shared time reduced. 3 Canarys 8 hours free timeline, 4 Canarys 6 hours free timeline. So say you spend $200 for one Canary = 24 hours timeline, 4 Canarys @ $800 = 6 hours timeline. At minimum you should get 24 hours timeline no matter what!

    Security device with absolutely no security

    The Canary has a feature that allows it to automatically go into “home” mode when family members are home through the app. This requires you to add family members to the Canary app. This feature works very well and is convenient. However, it is quickly overshadowed by the fact that anyone using the app can completely configure your devices. They can enable or disable recording. Enable or disable recording. They can even remove and add devices. They can even remove videos. There is absolutely no security or limits you can impose everyone. With a modern device, how can this even be a thing? Being able to control who can do what is a very basic and expected feature with any device that supports multiple users/members. This is sersiously the only app or device I’ve seen that allows multiple users and gives everyone full control. This design is absolutely terrible.

    Slow response time

    Delayed response on arrival and departure. Sometimes over 15 minutes. If someone broke into my home I won't know till they are gone. I got home for lunch. Made a sandwich, ate it, used the restroom and left all before the dang thing registered I was home. I was 15 minutes away when it said I was gone. I can stand right next to the unit and it will tell me I am not home. The camera is great as is the wide angle. Night vision is excellent also. Their help support is terrible and unresponsive as well. Buy a Nest system instead.

    Most reviews are outdated. after using canary I really doubt all the positive reviews are legit.canary decided to go after your wallet and charge a monthly fee to use the features, why when you can buy better and cheaper from other companys? The products are junk,I expected better quality video, I dont know how anyone can be identified by the lack of quality video. Design flaw #2, all someone has to do is walk over and unplug it, sound the alarm,unplug and rob you. Design flaw#3, power outage then unit fails to work.

      Canary offers two different video streams with different priorities: Watch Live in the Canary mobile app uses an adaptive video quality technology that prioritizes minimizing the delay from real time. If your network connection isn't as strong, the video bitrate will be reduced in an effort to stay in real time. This can result in grainy video, but our customers have told us that staying in real time is their priority for the Live feed.

      On the other hand, recorded video that appears on your timeline used a fixed high-quality setting, ensuring that key moments ranging from security incidents like a break in to more fun things like your kid's first steps are captured in great detail and clear picture for watching over and over again or sharing with the police.

      In the event of a loss of connection to our servers (due to unplugging or power outage), the Canary system can send you a push alert giving you rapid notice that something's amiss.

    Waste of time and money

    99 dollar paper weight. (I see why it was on sale) Maybe this thing works for some but I couldn’t even get my phone to pair with it. It refused to connect to the WiFi, touching the top to pair was useless, and the yellow headphone jack method didn’t work as well. Like I said, maybe it works for some but I’m just going to return it. Save a few extra bucks and save yourself the headache.

    Biggest Trash camera ever

    It’s not heat or motion sensing. It senses change in pixels on screen.( ie. sun goes behind clouds then comes back, sets off notification. What a crock! Best Buy ought to be ashamed of selling this trash.

    Bought this and was optimistic it would help provide security for our backdoor. The device never even made it through the setup mode in the mobile app. I built and run a technology company and have updated routers, phones etc and the device would not work. After reviewing their site and trying several different suggestions, I contacted Canary to inform them the item is defective. They sent me on an endless trouble-shooting journey probably hoping I would just toss it instead of return it. I spent at least 10 hours trying to fix it over three weeks time with approximately 5 different reps at Canary. Each rep assured me they had read the notes and would be able to resolve it. Even the ones that "escalated" it to "specialists" clearly did not as the next rep wanted to start at the beginning with troubleshooting 101 again. I asked them to do an exchange so I could send back the one that does not work but they just kept giving me the run-around on troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to return it since it's a non-functioning product and endless troubleshooting without resolution. Poor product. Bad customer service. Don't waste your money or your time. Try another brand. Too many options to put up with this.

    Red Ring Death

    Services you once got are now gone, even though it's on the box what you are supposed to get. Now you only get a few hours of recording whereas it used to be 24 hrs. Mine has been down for 5 days with the Red Rings of Death. The bottom of the camera is red and is completely un-usable. Pretty much dead. What a waste of $200.

    DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY

    Don't waste your money. I've had it for 2 years and have hated it for 2 years. It lags extremely bad.. meaning I can go into the room do something come out and then it will alert my phone... When you go to watch it in live mode, the app takes FOREVER if it even loads at all. I also purchased this awhile ago, before you needed a membership to do anything with, and one day they updated their software and I was locked out. If I would have known it was a membership based camera, I wouldn't have purchased it at all as that was specifically looking for a camera that didn't need a membership.
