I love using the prime lenses and have used the sony lenses on a Sony NEX 5N before. Having said that i can tell that the built quality on this lens is enough to just get started. I think anyone that uses this lens can agree that an upgrade to the f1.4 or (if you can afford it) the F1.2 would be logical. I have tried the F1.2 and fell in love with it. But if this is your first time using a Prime 50MM lens then this is probably the way to go that way you can get used to using the lens and if you break it or bang it up a bit it will not make a huge dent in your wallet

The 1.8 prime lens is amazing to capture the world around you with. It's great for professional and artistic shots alike and allows for shooting in much lower light conditions than with my stock 18-55mm with the minimum focal length at f/3.5. Even though you can't zoom, you gain so much more than you lose with this lens. I use it almost exclusively over my stock. Cheers, -M

You can't beat the value for the price of the lens. The lens will perform and do what it is required of it. The only drawback to the lens is that it doesn't come with automatic stabilization, but then again you get what you pay for. I would buy a second lens and this is better with a tripod - of course.

This is a great Lens if you are just starting out in photography that allows for you to get a good close-up shot while blurring the background highly used and will recommend it for wedding photos along with the stock lenses that come with the rebel three T3 I would use this much more often as well as some other lenses that are out there very good

This lenses is a great investment for upgrading from the kit lenses. Everyone needs a nifty 50. I love the portraits it produces, but of course it's not the lens, it's the person behind the lens. I think it's great for a start, but after a while like most starter lenses, you out grow it, but this little piece of beauty will always come in handy I believe.
