We purchased this for my dads birthday. He is a beginner, but you would never know it. The photos he has taken with his new lens are truly stunning. It was recommended to me by a friend, who loved this herself.

This is a great prime lens for new DSLR owners, it wont break the bank and is made of quality stuff. Its been in the Canon line for a while and its longevity is tied to its quality and durability. Sure you can spend more for a lower f/ but if you're new and want to get your hands dirty with good glass, this is the place to start.

For the price this lens is great. A 50mm prime is a great starter lens and there isn't a lens of this quality in a similar price range to compare it to. Only complaint would be the focus ring. When manually focusing can feel a little loose and almost gritty.

I'm new to owning a DSLR and brought this so as to be able to play with a fast lens with the intention of taking it back if I didn't like it, but I ended up loving up. Great for low light and noticeably better bokeh (out of focus blur) when compared to the standard kit lenses - although of course this is a prime (no zoom) lens.

This lens is worth the extra purchase as you are able to take additional angles of what you are trying to capture.

I have been a professional photographer for the past 10 years and kick myself for not buying this lens instead of the 50mm 1.2. This is a GREAT starter lens for anyone looking to get into photography. I bought this lens for when I'm photographing for fun, and not business...although I used it last weekend for a paid gig.

As a photography student, I stubbornly held off on purchasing the most basic lens in the photo world: a 50mm. When I finally decided to shell out the cash for one, I was so mad at myself for not buying one sooner. It's easy to use, great in quality, and a great purchase overall. I'm happy with my decision to buy one.

This is my go to lens for just about everything. i shoot a lot of kids so I'm always up close and personal.

I bought this lens just as I was about to have our second child. It was the perfect lens for taking the pictures I wanted. This is the third lens I have bougt for my DSLR after the kit lens, and I feel like this one was one of the best I've purchased.

This was a gift to my wife and according to her, this is a fabulous "nifty fifty" lens for her Canon DSLR.

Someone once taught me that if you can't win a game of pool with a house stick you don't deserve your own. At the price of a fixed lens with this f/stop I am simply amazed. If your start with something good but basic grab this you'll be amazed.

I haven't,actually used this lens yet but it got good reviews so I can't wait to use it on vacation .

The only thing I see wrong with lens is that it's plastic. Otherwise it does what it's supposed to do.

this is a good lens for everyday use. no bells and whistles just a good general lens for your camera.

This is a great lens! It is one of my sharpest lenses. It is sharper than the f1.4 version. It performs well in low light. The only mark against this lens is its build quality. It is made out of a cheap plastic to keep the cost down. I think that everyone should have this in their photography bag.

Great lense and average price. I love it its perfect for me ..just started to take pics of food and people.
