Amazing Lens for Such a Low Price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is amazing. It is good to see that Best Buy is finally selling it. I have had this lens for about a year and it has proven to be a staple in my camera bag. With f/1.8 you can achieve amazing bokeh and clear sharp images. This is the baby of the 50mm family. There is a 1.4 and 1.2 both of which will cost you a lot more. This is the lowest priced Canon Lens you can buy and you won't regret it.

Newbies like myself should have one of these
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received advise from a friend that I should own at least one prime lens, so I looked & looked and settled on this one. The reason I bought this lens was because of the price. I did not want to spend to much on a lens that i may not use as often. I was wrong, I bought this lens for my canon 60D, & I always keep it with me. I have taken hundreds of pictures with this lens, & I love how the pictures come out, it is different, not better, than my 18-135 lens. I really love the way the pictures come out & I love that you could take pictures, without flash, in near dark situations.

ok lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this smaller lens hoping to take close up head shots but about all it's good for is tiny animals or small detailed things

Excellent Lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this lens from a suggestion of a friend. My Canon T3i DSLR came with a 18mm-55mm kit lens and a 75mm-300mm zoom lens here at Best Buy in a bundle. But this lens is much better for closeups and portrait shots with better sharpness and low light performance than my kit lens. It's small, light weight, and seems to be well made though the lens is plastic. It's a good addition to my camera and the price is right.

Excelent Image for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Once you learn the tricks of this lens, WOW... You can get stunning portraits and very nice quality video. Great Bokeh with a hit of faded colors, not just a sea of chromatic aberrations. The Focus, however, is SLOW and you MUST use manual focus on low light if you don't want to use the flash... If you don't use the manual focus, you might find that the focus goes in and out without finding anything and that many pics are just soft. Put that together with the less than perfect viewfinder of the T2i and it makes things pretty hard. The slow focus will also play a trick on you if you need to take a fast photo of anything with action. But again... If you know those limitations and you are looking for great portraits or family pics... This lens is unbeatable for this price. I love it... It took a while to get used to the limitations, but after that, got very high quality pics. Lots of people complain about the built quality of the lens... I say that just be careful not to drop it and it will work for you for a long time.

There's a new "nifty fifty" in town!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used the original 50mm f/1.8 lens until upgrading to the 50mm f/1.4. I've recently purchased the 50mm f/1.8 II and can say that it is simply amazing and I love it. I ended up selling my 1.4 to fund a camera body upgrade and could not be happier. You won't be disappointed with this one!

A pretty good lens
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, i have had this lens for about 1.5 months now. Here is what I found so far. It does feel like a cheap lens, so I am very very careful when i put it on the camera and I keep it in he bubble wrap it came in. it won't break if your careful. If you shoot more in the dark, auto focus is very slow and may not even focus. With the 1.8 aperture you must make sure your focal points are on the eyes to insure a sharp face in portraits. it does take great portraits and has great bokeh at 1.8, but again, you need to make sure face is in focus.

Best value in DSLR optics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Canon EF 50mm f1.8 is the best value in SLR optics. I bought it to have a fast lens to complement my slower zooms. Its optical performance is as good as or better than lenses costing 20 times as much. At this price if you need – or even just want – a fast lens, this is the one to get. The 50mm is equivalent to an 80mm on a small sensor camera like the 60D, 7D or T3i. The large f1.8 aperture performs great in low light and delivers very shallow depth of field, making it a great lens for portraits. I've used Canon gear exclusively since 1975 so I'll have to remember that this all-plastic lens isn't likely to be as durable as my old FD or current L series lenses. Other than the all plastic construction, a concession I gladly make to get the price so low, my only other complaint is the very small and inconveniently located focus ring.

Nifty Fifty Ftw!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It does the job and the bokeh is great. Sharp photos and the lowlight isn't too shabby either. I got mine for an excellent price and it's worth every penny. So if you're thinking about getting one, go ahead and do it. You won't regret it!

Excellent lens, gets plenty of use.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this lens! It is a little disturbing that the thing is made entirely of plastic but I've had mine for over a year and it gets plenty of use and is still working great. I was skeptical about the mounting bracket plastics being worn off over time and mine does have slight rub marks from being used so much. Eventually I believe this will be what fails on the lens. Anyways its a great lens for the price. I love the sharp images I can take with it. 1.8 aperture is awesome for blurring backgrounds and only keeping your subject sharp!

Great Pics
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this lens. I am a hobbyist photographer. This is my 4th lens with Canon. It is lightweight in comparison to my other lenses. Seems fragile so be careful with it. Especially from what I saw on other reviews. Takes great close up shots with the blurred background and focusing on the subject. Makes me feel like a professional photographer. Proud of my purchase. I've had it about 2 weeks now. Great price

Was hoping for Macro capability
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lense came up on my search for Macro lenses. The minimum focus distance is 1 and 1/2 feet. Not exactly macro now is it?

Poor lense
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Poor lense. Pictures did not turn out well. I wish they sold the 18-55 mm lense that comes with the camera separately!

Great Value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would recommend this to anyone! Has a great bokeh effect and is a fantastic value (can't get anything near this price new) Obviously it is cheap for a reason, focus is slow and not great in low light but you should expect that for this price All in all, a good lens at a fantastic price

Great lens for the price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.i really wanted a lens with great depth of field and one that gave me the bokeh effect! This lens is great for portraits, food photos, and even landscape/scenic photos. I had this lens on my camera during most of my Europe trip. Amazing lens for the price! If you can't afford the lens that goes down to 1.4 or 1.2 aperture, then try this because you will get great photos out of it.

Cheap, but works awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is a great lens to start with. I am not a professional photographer, but I do shoot stuff here and there, and this lens can be so helpful sometimes. It's sharp, easy to use, makes colors more vivid, and it's freaking cheap!
