Customers are impressed with the EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard Lens's image quality, ease of use, and ability to produce excellent photos in low light. Many appreciate its wide aperture, which creates a pleasing background blur, making it ideal for portraits. The lens is also praised for its affordability and lightweight design. However, some users have noted that the autofocus could be improved.

Amazing Results...at a Price

I'll just dive in and say that this lens takes amazing pictures outdoors and especially more indoors in low light conditions. Basically, if you have any desire to take proper indoor photos at night without flash, then you need this lens.
So why the 2 stars? The lens basically fell apart on its own after 3 months of VERY LIGHT use. I basically opened my camera bag one day and found it in two pieces. Doing some research online, found this to be very common with this lens. I know I should have expected this from a $100 lens made of cheap plastic, but it was still a canon.
Anyway, I ended up exchanging it for the Canon 50mm f/1.4 lens which yes, costs a lot more, but at least I'm assured it's money going to be around for years and years to come as the construction and quality are folds better.

I have used this lens for a few photos and it is great. If I find I will use this lens with some frequency I may spring for the 1.4. In the meantime this is a fine prime lens that will be good in your lens collection.

I just bought my first DSLR camera in July. I have always loved taking photographs of people and during my travels. I think I have a great eye and wanted to get more out of my photos with a better camera. (and lenses) as I read this lens was a must for those who shoot lots of portraits as I do. At the price and some discounts I got it at a great steal. This prime lens gives the best clarity I've seen of any of the photos ive taken, however I am a beginner. I was astonished at the results almost immediately after taking a couple of shots of my son. His eyes were bright and skin glowing. It was much more clear verses the two kit lenses (18-55) and 75-300) I received with the camera by a long shot. THe only issue I have is that it is so slow. I think my point and shoot cameras are so much faster than my dslr altogether but this lens is even slower than the kit lenses. which when shooting a moving baby, is kinda sad. The focusing is slow and SO LOUD it sounds like it is breaking. I am glad that I put it on my Best buy card so if I loose the receipt I can still get a refund if it breaks prematurely. Overall I highly recommend this lens for the inexpensive price tag and great quality photos despite some setbacks. But if I could have found the IS model in the store I may have bought that instead. But the low F Stop was my main reason for purchasing as well. Gives great background blur and that sharpness that far surpassed my expectations.

I loved the price and have been loving the ease of this lens. The pick-up process, however, at Best Buy was a nightmare. But aside from writing it here, it's a distant memory and the lens is my fave!

I'm just starting into the world of D-SLR photography and recently just purchased my Canon Rebel T2i, and before vacation I purchased the 50mm lens. Worked great on vacation. I did a lot of photos of my husband and I with this lens and all the picutres came out amazing. The size is probably the best aspect of this item. It's like it's not even there. The aperture control between the lens and camera was outstanding, it always focused where i wanted it to and resulted in amazing pictures!

This was my first prime lens. Its a pretty good upgrade from a kit lens when you need low light photos without flash. Cropped cameras will feel really tight with this lens. Its great to learn on, but you'll eventuall move onto a 35mm or 30mm lens. Overall super great bang for the buck. Build quality is kind of weak though since its made of plastic. Just dont drop it!

Picked this lens up earlier this week to use on my new 60D and it produces some great images. Marking it down 1 star due to how loud the AF is and it seems to have a hard time focusing at times (this could be my issue as I'm brand new to photography).

Nice lens to start doing some creative shooting with. I need more practice with Depth of Field shots. Do research on shooting with "fast lens" narrow depth of field shots.

This is a great lens. For the price of the lens and the quality of the photos that turn out. Auto-focus is funky, but most are. Get it!!!!!

The image quality is very high, even in low light conditions. The lens is nice and lightweight. It's a very good starter lens for someone just starting out in the DSLR world.

Perfect nifty 50

This generation of the famed "Nifty 50" has a much faster focus. Although the noise is still right up there with previous versions it is faster. Like all the 50mm 1.8's this lives up to the Nifty 50 name. Photos are very sharp and you can shoot in very very low light. If you don't have this lens and you can't afford the L glass run and get this one. It will leave you grinning from ear to ear.
