Many appreciate its wide aperture, which creates a pleasing background blur, making it ideal for portraits. The lens is also praised for its affordability and lightweight design. However, some users have noted that the autofocus could be improved.

This is exactly what I needed to step up my videos and photography. While the gears are a little noisy it's easy to overlook when I see the outcome of my shots. Pictures are very crisp and clear!

I really love this lens, it is really nice for the price. You'd be hard pressed to find a fast 50mm lens (F/1.8) for $125. The images comes out very sharp, and being a fast lens it makes it easy to blur the background and control your depth of field. What I don't like about it is that it is noisy during auto focusing, and the auto focus is not as fast as I would like (it would've been nice if it was an STM lens) but all in all it is a very nice lens and I like it a lot.

If you shoot portraits this lens is a must. If you want the bokeh effect this lens is what you need. Keep in mind if you're shooting video you'll want the STM model not the EFS.

Picked up this lens after I read many reviews about it. All the reviews are true. This lens takes awesome photos. Very sharp images. For the price, you can't get anything better. But what this lens gains in image quality and sharpness, it lacks everywhere else. The whole thing is plastic, including the mount. The focus ring seems very loose. And the autofocus motor is very loud. So it might not be so good for video use. But if you don't care about those things a want a sharp image taker on the cheap, then this is your best bet.

Excellent, excellent low light photos. I wouldn't hesitate to pick this up for your Canon. Since it's a fixed lens it can be a bit hard to get everything you want in frame.

I've used it on cropped and full frame cameras. It works great on either. Sharpness is unheard of at such a low price. Build quality is so-so but as long as you don't abuse it, you should be fine. It's small and light enough that you have no reason to leave it behind.

Known as the Plastic Fantastic, this lens is a steal for the price! Fast lens with decent low light capability and great depth of field. Used as my primary lens for my T3i, it works closer to a 70mm, but all the same, it's perfect for portraits and close-ups. Somewhat loud when using auto-focus, and can feel cheap compared to higher priced lenses. Definitely would recommend for any beginner to intermediate photographer.

This is a must lens that all beginner and semi-pro photographer should have. Once you see how much light it lets in and the crispiness this lens provides, you'll ask yourself "How the heck this is the most cheapest canon lens?" Optics is so good on this lens that you can almost compare it with the L lenses. You SHOULD NOT complain about the built quality and plastic mount because thats what made the lens affordable. Its the most flimsiest and slowest and loudest lens I own, yet its a lens I would carry everywhere. If it breaks or the mount wears out, I'll buy another one, I don't mind!
