Great bang for the buck for a wide angle lens

I have an old Canon Rebel T3i (from 2011), and my first lens was the inexpensive but amazing 50mm f/1.8 prime lens. Although I eventually moved to another camera ecosystem (Sony), I still enjoy breaking out my old cameras. I decided to take a chance on bringing the Rebel to photograph a recent event but needed a decent wide angle lens. (It was a comic convention, so pics were of cosplayers like misselliehoneybee and mayan.goddess on IG.) This 24mm f/2.8 lens went on sale, and I also had a coupon and rewards points that knocked off another 25% off. But this lens surprised me with how awesome the images it captured were. Very little distortion for a wide angle “pancake” lens and very sharp with great colors. It’s small size paired with the light weight of the Rebel made it just as much a joy to use as my Sony mirrorless camera system. I ended up using it 95% of the time compared to the 50mm lens. I highly recommend this lens if you’re using Canon’s line of APS-C crop sensor cameras.

I bought this lens to complement the 50mm lens that i have in my kit (along with my 10-24, my 18-55, 55-250, and my 18-200 lenses). Although zoom lenses have their place, low light photography is not one of them (unless you are spending SERIOUS money). On a C sensor Canon camera - namely any of the T series (T4, T3i, T4, T4i, T5, T5i), D70, D80 or SL1, this lens works like a 35mm lens on a full size sensor camera. With an f2.8 you can open it up all the way to do low light shooting, as well as being able to do portrait shooting with a good blur on the back ground.
Photos through this lens are sharp at all f stops.
Additionally it has the same diameter as the f1.8 50mm lens (52mm) so you can use the same filters on both lenses
When coupled to the SL1 (a light camera to start with) it becomes a combo that is lighter than some "all in one" cameras,

An incredible little pancake lens, to use for wider shots. Even on my cropped sensor its distance feels true to eye(i dont have to step back to have my camera see what im seeing).
Affordable
Sharp
And Refreshing in its versatility.

Great lens that I would recommend for any photographers who shoot in low light, or may want a great depth-of-field with a wider angle than a 50mm. Especially great for taking detailed images in tight spaces. Tested on portraits, automotive, daytime, nighttime, animals, etc!

I wanted something to use in low light environments and take up close images.
This Lens hit the ticket, it preformed fantastically with up close objects and when we got into the shaded Forrest, it took snappy pictures all the way up to dusk.
it also dramatically reduces the footprint of the camera and for people that are fighting for room in their packs on hikes, that is a welcome feature.

I watched a few reviews on this lens and was sold on it. First off, the mobility of this lens is great because it's very small, a pancake lens. It's a little bit bigger than a camera lens cap tbh. It's a fast sharp lens, and the 2.8 is great for portraits and such.

I bought this lens to take with me to Tulum, Mexico. I didn’t want to carry around a camera bag with all my lenses and needed something that could work in any situation. Man, the 24 mm on my Canon 77D gave me some of the best photos of my life. Excellent performance in low light, great bokeh, photographs food really well, and excellent portraits. This will now be the lens I use the most!

I love this lens! I use it on my Canon 70D. It's a perfect walking around lens. It actually hasn't left my camera since I purchased it 6 weeks ago. I mainly take photos of my children and I love the look this lens gives my photos!

Bang for your bucks! This gem was useful in a small setting, with very low lighting. I’m a beginner photographer but this was very helpful and the photos came out great.

I don't like to carry a lot of gear with me and this lens not only gives me a good wide-angle lens but also stands in for a decent macro lens as long as I don't get too close. Given that most of my photos are of alligators, getting too close is never really a problem. 8>)

Great lens! Perfect focal length for video and produces nice quality images! Only downside is it doesn’t have IS. This along with the 50mm 1.8 are probably the best bang for your buck primes!

Let's be honest: photography equipment--especially lenses--are ridiculously expensive! $10,000 for a single super-telephoto lens??!! Not likely!!
Thankfully, Canon has a small assortment of affordable lenses for those of us who are photography hobbyists but neither pros nor made of money. The 24mm "pancake" lens will satisfy the majority of amateur photographers for their landscape photos. I just came back from an afternoon excursion to Cape Cod, and this lens stayed on my Rebel T5 the majority of the time.
Definitely well worth the money!

I've been wanting a wide angle lens but couldn't fork over the money for a really nice one so I opted for this one. I took it to Iceland with me to break it in. It works great for close-up shots.

This is a perfect little lens to have on your camera. It's so small you can just leave it attached to your camera when you go to put it up.

This lens pairs perfectly with the 70d. The focal length makes for a great walk around lens that's quiet and snappy. You can achieve a great amount of bokeh. At this price point, it's hard to pass this one up.

This is one of my favorite lens compared to the 50. Even tho the it’s a 2.8 it has given me a lot of outstanding pictures. It doesn’t create as much of a loud noise when focusing. This has updated technology in the lens not like the old 50.
I have used it for pictures and video
Portrait and outdoors.
Now I wish the came out with more pan cake lens.
