Customers are saying

Customers highly value the EF-S24mm F2.8 STM Standard Prime Lens for its outstanding image quality, wide angle, and compact size. The reasonable price and lightweight design also contribute to its appeal. However, some customers have noted concerns regarding the focusing noise and compatibility issues with certain EOS bodies.

    Great for close group shots

I needed a prime lens that would get me in closer than my 50mm for group shots in very tight spaces. This is perfect. I can literally stand arms length away from the group, focus with ease and still maintain clarity and color. Very impressed with this pancake sized lens. Conveniently small enough to fit in your pocket (not that I would put mine there..lol) it's certainly light and is just as good as my nifty fifty.

We returned this because the added wide angle was so minimal that we got a wider and less with our iPhones. Just not worth having.

The "wide" angle was not as wide as I expected. Just a little wider than my normal lens.

Almost makes the SL1 into a pocket camera

BLUF: Light, compact, well-built and a solid optical performer. The EF-S 24mm is the third STM prime in Canon's lineup (following the EF-M 22mm F2.0 and the EF 40mm F2.8), and shouldn't be the last. The compact pancake design makes for a great experience on smaller Canon bodies like the SL1 (100D). (I'd like to see folding optics like the Nikon D3300's kit lens too!) The barrel is plastic, but it's nicely textured and feels solid. The front optics look lost in a sea of plastic, but this was probably done to get a 52mm filter ring to match the 40mm STM lens, the 50mm F1.8, and other inexpensive Canon lenses. (The size of the EF mount also precludes making a lens with a diameter much smaller than this.) It features solid optical performance, with no obvious flaws in color rendering, distortion sharpness. Autofocus is not as quick as ring USM, but it's about as fast as the micromotor version you'd find on lenses like Canon's 28mm f1.8 USM. Manual focus is...odd - like there's a slight delay - due to the focus-by-wire system (this also plagues most micro 4/3 lenses). Autofocus continues to be accurate in relatively poor light. For the money, this lens is very tough to beat! If you have a Canon crop body, this is a much better buy than the 50mm F1.8 lens for a number of reasons (smaller, better built, faster and more accurate autofocus).

    Great purchase!

I received this lens as a gift from my boyfriend. I was looking for a nice walk around prime lens so if I didn't feel like lugging my equipment, I wouldn't have to. I was using my 50mm as a walk around lens, but with an APS-C camera, that really turns the focal length into an 80mm making it so walking around and getting wide angle shots could be challening. the 24mm comes to around 38mm with the 1.6x factor. I really like this lens because you can get a wide angle view, but you can get closer up to the subject and get a little bit of a macro. I think this lens is very versatile, and the picture quality is very sharp. This is a great purchase, and you won't break the bank!

    I Like This Lens!

I'm very happy with this lens. It works well in low light and is nice and sharp. One drawback I've noticed is that it won't focus if the camera's off. If you're ready to move beyond the "kit" lenses that came with your camera, this is a good next lens.

    Perfect little pancake lens

I love this fixed lens that I bought from best buy. It works perfectly on my cropped body T3i and the autofocus is so smooth, quiet, and extremely accurate. I never use autofocus on any lens, but I can't help but use it on this one because of its speed and accuracy; I couldn't have done it better myself. I also love how small and light it is and you can still let in a good amount of light in darker situations with the 2.8 aperture. I haven't tested this lens to video yet but considering how quiet and smooth the autofocus is, it would but phenomenal for wide angle videos. I am currently a photography student with much experience and I would recommend this to any level photographer/videographer because of the great price and awesome punch this little lens packs.

I am a beginner at photography and I love taking pics of my family, especially my toddler. The pictures with this wide lens come out so beautiful & clear. This lens purchase alone makes me love taking pictures even more. Great quality product for a great price. This is one lens every picture taker must have, whether you are a beginner or professional.

Excellent overall lens... especially when paired with the Canon SL1. Changes my approach to taking pictures. Took pictures for a high school choir concert from the back of the auditorium with various shutter speeds with this lens. I would never get these shots with a zoom lens or my phone. There is just not enough light. However, I was able to get clear shots even with major cropping with this lens. Excellent for outdoor photography as well. You may need to move around a bit, but that is OK.. Cannot wait to take this lens everywhere and stop doing the 100% automatic settings.

    Beginner Lens with Professional Quality

This lens is phenomenal for it's price! The auto focus is blazing fast and very precise. The fixed aperture is outstanding! Having an F/2.8 in such a small versatile lens is like having a perfect prime lens. That is my case at least. I use a Canon T5 which is a crop sensor. So the 1.6X crop factor turns this 24 mm into a 38mm. This made me especially happy for having a solution to not being able to use a full 35mm prime lens on my crop sensor camera. Because a 35mm on a crop is a 50mm and so on. VERY good lens for the price and the quality is well worth the $150 or so.

    Better value than the EF-M 22mm F2.0

I was looking for a wide angle lens for my mirrorless Canon M3. A native EF-M 22mm F2.0 costs almost twice the price of this lens. This seems to be a better value given that I already have the EF to EF-M adapter. At wide open, there is vignetting effect at the corners but the lens data correction took care of it.

I wanted to have a wider angle lens that i could use with my T5i and T3i and my wife's SL1. Since these cameras have the cropped sensor, the 50mm lens acts as if it was an 80mm lens, which is good for portrait work, but is too long a lens for using indoors like a birthday party, or in a museum. The 24mm lens has a 2.8 f/stop so you can open it wide for low light photography

I purchased this lens to use at motorcycle and car shows and so far it has worked great! I also have the 50mm but this lens allows me to be closer to bikes or cars and still get the entire shot.

    Love the Lens

I was somewhat skeptical purchasing this lens, but I am so glad that I did. It's quiet and fast. It's perfect for taking landscape scenery photo's. It's also an STM lens so it has been great for taking fixed video footage. I started shooting stills for stop-motion project and this lens is absolutely perfect for it. For those that don't have this lens yet, get it - you wont be disappointed especially for the price.
