This lens is excellent for it's intended purpose of Macro close-ups. The IS and L Lens quality definitely show through. If you can stomach almost double the price compared to the non-L version, then it's worth it, and can easily double for great portraits with excellent clarity and bokeh for a pleasing shot. Currently on sale from Canon for MAP for $100 less then usual.

The canon 100mm 2.8 L is a beast of a macro lens and is a great portrait lens as well. The IS is great for macro work.

I would say personally this lens is a must have in your kit. When on a shoot or just walking around, I normally keep 3 lenses on me about 98% of the time. I have a 50mm f/1.8, a 70-200mm f/2.8 L mk II, and then this 100 mm macro. A lot of time people associate macro lenses with shooting small thing or getting up close to something, but this as a portrait lens is outstanding. I also shoot videos from time to time and the ability to get close and shoot some B roll as well as this lens having image stabilization is amazing.

This is my first macro lens, and I researched alot of them before purchasing this one. I own a Canon t3 and all my lenses are Canon, so I kind if wanted to stay with them. I looked at several different macro lenses before I decided on this one, especially because of the price. At the end of the day, though, it was money well spent. The lens is well made, and takes amazing pictures. It is slightly on the heavy side, but it is not that bad. Would definitely recommend it.

Bought this for detail wedding shots. Also found this is a very nice portrait lens. Doing 5 weddings this year, but haven't had a chance to use this much for macro yet... but I do a lot of portrait photography, and this lens is super sharp. It has a long focus throw, so it is not super fast focusing, but is also not slow... and the focus seems to be very accurate.

Great macro lens. I've discovered that it will take time and effort until I can start taking shots like the ones I see on the photo blogs. But it's great fun learning how - now I walk around the house and yard looking for tiny things to shoot. No bug or flower is safe. This lens also doubles as a great portrait lens on a full frame sensor. One of the best things about this purchase was that Best Buy had it cheaper than any of the usual online sources.

I've been eying this lens for awhile and am so glad I bought it. I've been using it with an extender tube and getting some amazing macro shots. It takes crystal clear shots and I'm amazed at how well it does even without using a tripod at an extremely close range. It's also great for just everyday use.

This lens is by far one of the best lenses that I purchased. You get the quality of a canon L lens for a fraction of what most L series lenses cost. It's great for macro photography, food photography, portraits, etc. Really great all around lens. It is a must-have lens that should be in every photographers bag.

This is one of my most sharpest lens, the auto focus is really good. The lens is not heavy so you don’t need a super tripod to get a nice sharp focus on something up close

This lens is just perfect for a lot of stuff, I use it mostly for portraits and it gives such an awesome depth of field, sharpness, image quality... is just perfect and beautiful, and such an amazing macro lens to I absolutely recommend every photographer needs to have this lens in their bag.

This lens is a great lens for macro or portrait photography. The depth of field is amazing and we've gotten some great shots with it! We had the other 100mm macro lens and decided to go with the L series becaus of the better quality lens, but both are amazing lenses!

This was my first prime lens in a while, but what a lens! Great bokeh/shallow depth of field for isolating and emphasizing Subjects in portraits. Fast– f2.8! And it's TRUE macro. Can't wait to use it foreign and detail shots at my next wedding. Portraits, thus far, have been amazing!

Was a toss up between this one and the canon mp-e 65mm. Glad I started with this one. Macro is hard.... but its a great lens for me starting off learning macro. Also the ability to shoot great portraits with it is a plus.

I took up photography a few years ago and decided to upgrade my Canon 80D with a quality lens, wow what a difference. This lens is very sharp and a great macro and portrait lens. Best purchase I've made in sometime.

After a lot of research and great help from the sales associate decided to add this lens to my collection. Have had beautiful results both with macro photography, which I am just learning, as well as portraits and general scenery. Recommend.

The lens is excellent and give crystal clear image. I found the manual focus work very well in the lens and that what I mostly use. A bit pricey yet worthy! My go-to lens for shooting small objects with great details.

I bought this lens with the thought that I would only use it for true macro shots, but I find it really good for many other uses. A must have lens for those wanted awesome and clear shots.
