This is one of, if not the sharpest, lenses I have ever used. Unbelievable sharpness whether shooting far away or up close. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a great macro or great portrait lens.

This is an incredible macro lens. The image quality is amazing. It’s a great portrait lens as well. Focus can be slow and search a bit on my 5d mark ii, though, so faster moving portraits (kids, events, etc) can be tricky. Consider how you want to use the lens before you buy it. If you want amazing macro with great portrait capability, and you don’t need fast focus or greater than f2.8, this is for you. If you just want a nice portrait lens with shallow depth of field, canon makes a great 85 f1.8 or 100 f2 that will work for a lot less money.

I'd used macro filters for a few years, and finally added the canon L Macro lens. It has been amazing and looks so much better, as well as so easy to shoot with!

This has fast and accurate focus. This has three auto focus modes for far, near and full focus to help in various scenarios for fast focus. The quality of glass is also great which results in some amazingly sharp pictures. Overall if macro is your thing then this lens is great to have. This is bit pricey, if you don't need fast auto focus and mostly work with manual focus then there are some other great economical lens in market.

My first L lens. This lens is great, the IQ is outstanding and very quiet. Perfect for Macros' along with landscape photography. Stays on the camera 90% of the time.

This lens is quite flexible, considering it's a macro lens. Images are sharp, and depth of field is easily controlled with its wide aperture range.

I use this lens for my product photography and sometimes portraits. Overall, this works great for getting fine details on the small things that I am shooting and focuses well. Overall, you could get the less expensive macros and get the same results at the end of the day your paying a lot more for a little more light.

Another great L lens, and the IS functionality of this improves your shots. Great at taking macro, and even distant shots - color me impressed.

This lens is razor sharp from f2.8, has beautiful bokeh, decent AF speed (though I mostly focus manually at macro distances), good MFD and 1:1 macro reproduction. Compared to the non-L Canon 100mm macro, this is in a league all its own. The IS is great for shooting in the field when you don't have a tripod handy. I also use the Zeiss 100mm MP (which is exceptional for its image quality), but it lacks many of the features of the Canon.

I love my EF 100mm f/2.8L Marco lens. It’s great for those upclose shots and for portraits, you can even do decent landscapes.

One of Canons best L lenses

I had about 7 L lenses for all kinds of shooting; but never had a dedicated macro lens. I was using one of my L lenses with extension tubes, which was doing a great job but needed something a little more versatile. So I borrowed my brothers Canon 100mm macro non L which did a good job; but when I chose to purchase one I went with the L version because of the image stabilization, ultra sonic motor and built quality. After using this a few weeks I must say this has to be one best L lenses I've ever shot with.

This lens allows you to focus on the tiny details like flowers, insects, etc. I personally bought it because I had a project on which I needed to focus on the most specific details for the perfect photo, even though it wasn't related to the elements I mentioned before. I've heard from other photographers who'd used it before that it's great for video stabilization, but I personally haven't tried it yet. Overall, it's an excellent Canon product. Highly recommended!

Great macro and portrait lens. Best to use a tripod and remote switch to obtain those picture perfect macros. Testing f stops, I get the best photos between f/9-f/11. No complaints on these lens.

Ok, so I purchased this lens for obvious reasons, I want to shoot some up close and personal shots. Today I took it out with my t6i, which isn't the best camera Canon has to offer, but it's a decent body. Regardless, attached is a photo from a t6i at iso 160, f2.8, 1/125 with very minimal Lightroom editing. This is easily going to become my "go-to" lens. The lens has very rich bokeh, and works great in low light situations. I can't wait to see what else I can do with it.

it's fun to use, light, fast and versatile. Great as a general purpose lens . it's comfortable and ergonomic. You will discover a world that you never knew existed around you due to it's macro capabilities. It's a great portrait lens, sharp with good blurring effects. The only cons to this lens that I find are, cost, some macro shots may require a tripod , some focus hunts in low light, plastic body and short focal length for serious macro.

Haven't had a dedicated macro for a while, and happy to use this one. The camera in use (40D) doesn't likely do justice to resolution, so I'll have to wait for the 5D Mark IV to get full appreciation of the value in this lens. While the long hood (included) is likely the right accessory on really bright days, I happen to have a shorter Canon hood with side cuts (left over from a same-size older lens), which is more generally useful/less restricting.
