Nice lens
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This lens is a nice step up from the f/1.8 However, I don't see too much of a difference when comparing the two. Great quality for the price

Great lens for portraits and video in low light.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this lens after years of renting it from several places. On a crop sensor it allows in plenty of light for video by opening up to 1.4 reducing noise by allowing you to shoot at a lower ISO. On a full frame your portraits will look amazing. I film using a 5D Mark III and the video quality is great.

50mm
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.So....I didn't want to spend the money for the expensive 50mm and didn't want the low end. I got the middle grade and it's fantastic.

Great Can't Go Wrong Lens
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great lens for general street photograph. I use this on my 1 Ds mk iii and get pretty nice results. I like it also because the weight is nothing compared to my L lens. Good as a back up or an all day lens.

Big Brother to the Nifty Fifty
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I finally broke down and bought this lens after owning the Nifty Fifty for years. I had read several reviews that it was only slightly better than the 1.8. After trying it out, it does have better low light capability, but only by a stop or two. If you don’t do much low light shooting, or don’t shoot low light for work, I would stick with the 1.8. The extra stop of low light capability wasn’t or isn’t worth $200 extra.

This is a great lense!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read the reviews on line and off Bestbuy website too....looked a through a few different ones....my brother and law purchased this as a present for my sister... so I had played with it a little...love it for portraits...your subjects must be in the same line of sight FYI. Have fun with a great lense.

Good glass for great price
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using this lens almost exclusively for 2 month now and I’ve captured some pretty good photos. It’s compact in size, lightweight, and easy to carry around. The usm is reasonably fast but is a bit loud. Note, there is no image stabilization and the lens doesn’t support movie servo. The manual focus ring is not very smooth but gets the job done. Overall, you can’t beat this low of a price for a nifty fifty with this low of an aperture.
