Customers are saying

Customers love the EF50mm F1.4 USM Standard Lens for its exceptional image quality and beautiful bokeh. Many appreciate its strong low-light performance and ease of use, finding it well-suited for portraits and offering good value for the price. This is now the second review that I’ve given you, and considering what I wrote in the first one and not having received any word from you I don’t expected this means a hill of beans. I have written to the corporate CEO with absolutely no response I have called you texted attempted to email and I have had absolutely no satisfaction I am so done with Best Buy and I would never recommend your company to anyone! What is the point when I never hear from anyone.

I've used this lens for over 3 months and I really seem to be quite happy with its performance. Great for low light and fantastic Bokeh. I've read that some people experience troubles with the USM motor after a year or so. But nothing bad I can say about it. I recommend this lens to anyone who wants fantastic quality in their photos. (worth paying more than the "fantastic plastic 1.8" or 50mm 1.8 lens)

This little beauty shines! I have owned the $100 50mm F/1.8, and it is a usable and good starter prime. I have also shot with the 50mm F/1.2 L, which will run you $1600. I purchased this lens as a fine cost/value compromise. Beyond f2.8 I cannot see any difference between the "L" glass and this lens. It is excellent for portraiture on a crop sensor body such as the 60D or 7D. I love the ability to create extremely shallow DOF with very nice bokeh. The USM is fast and quiet. This lens is my choice for ambient light portraiture. You will not regret this lens at this price, unless you are getting paid a small fortune and shoot only with L series glass anyway. The other 99% of us could not reach the limits of what this lens can produce normally.

Better Choice than the Canon 50mm f/1.8

I own a Canon EOS 60D with an 18-135mm kit lens. I needed a fixed lens for portraits and general use that will give me an amazing shallow depth-of-field to get started on my freelance photography. They do carry the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens in-store but for quality, I do recommend this lens in particular because it is a f/1.4, which lets in a lot more light and there is a difference between the f/1.8 and f/1.4 quality. Not to mention, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is a bit filmsy. You will not regret buying this lens.

Ordered this lens to build upon my starter kit of my Canon t2i that I have had for over 2 years now. Great addition and I am satisfied with the quality/clarity of the photos it is able to capture. The bokeh effect it gives to my shots are even better than before and this is definitely something that you should consider buying if all you have is the standard kit that came with the camera. An obvious recommendation.

I have tried the Canon 50mm F1.8 II for 2 weeks and was happy with results. I have also tried the Canon 50mm F1.2 for a day and fell in love with it completely but not my wallet. With the Canon 50mm F1.4, I was able to get the same quality on the F1.2 for a fraction of the cost yet not a toy like F1.8 II. I am very happy with my purchase.

    Perfect Lens for Beginning Photographer

I bought this lens to replace my Canon 50mm f/1.8 that got dropped and broke. I'm so glad I upgraded. This lens is made much nicer than the other and I feel its much better quality. Don't get me wrong f/1.8 is a steal for $100. But if you are looking for something that is a little better quality without breaking the bank this lens is for you.

I actually ended up having to return this lens because of a focusing malfunction- but I have it great reviews because sometimes, you just get a lemon. It doesn't mean every lens is bad, and my new lens performs beautifully. It is my go-to lens for 90% of my work- especially young children because it allows me to be a little further back- and if you've ever worked with kids- you know how easily distracted they can be when they see a camera!! I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good quality portrait lens without the huge price tag!

Great lens for the money. YES, a real focus ring!

I upgraded my Canon 1.8 for the 1.4 and the difference is definitely noticeable. My main complaint with the cheaper lens was the ridiculous focus ring. It was barely noticeable and really terrible for video. It made me wonder if Canon purposely made the focus ring so different between the two lenses because otherwise the 1.8 would be fine. At $130, it's a great purchase, but terrible in comparison to this lens.

this is a good buy for beginner photo enthusiast who wants to have a decent low aperture lens from canon. can't say bad about it considering that the price itself is better than the high end lenses from canon.

I really like this lens. We got our camera in a kit with a lens that was versatile with zoom and all but I was looking to take pictures of my kids that had a more "artsy" look. This lens did just that. It automatically makes ordinary pictures look more constructed and professional. Mind you I am a total amateur and dabbler photographer and have taken only one photography class but I get compliments on my photos because they look more abstract than others I've taken. I don't know much about the technicality of it all but I really love the results that its given me.

The Canon 50mm 1.4 is an awesome lens! I use it for all situations especially in low light situations & that's really where it shines. The build quality is very good.
