I recently purchased this lens as I am still starting out on my photography journey and this was the best first buy I added to my kit. The lens is perfect for beginner portrait photography. The employee that helped me explained this lens in detail to me and also compared the other 50mm and other lens and told me this would benefit me more in this stage of my experience and he was completely right. If you are looking to upgrade your lens I highly recommend this one. You won't regret it.

Easy to use, compact, great images, light weight, price is right

This is a great lens for the price. Seems it should be a bit more, it is that good! Excellent low light lens and for getting that shallow depth of field. The lens is at it's sharpest at 2.8. Compared the quality to my EF-S 10-22mm and this 50mm blows it away! A very professional lens. A must have lens for any serious photographer.

A great upgrade from the kit lenses. I am a beginner photographer and this was an affordable lens that brought a huge upgrade to the quality of my photos.

This lense is a MUST HAVE for any photographer, professional or amateur. It is the perfect lens to learn photography on, and you're able to take stunning photos right off the bat. This is not a zoom lens, so that means it is basically like your eyeball. If you want to see something close you will have to get close. This makes it difficult for any distance photography such as wildlife or wedding. But for the extremely low price, it is the best bang for your buck. Even professionals use this lens for an easy portrait or snapshot of something. One of the most reliable lenses in the game. Also make sure if you're using this on any EOS camera or camera that has an RF adapter that you also buy a EF-RF lens adapter or it won't fit on your camera. They also came out with an RF 50mm 1.8 recently that won't require that adapter.

This is a great lens, I would recommend it to anyone that wants a good, yet very affordable lens.

This is the first camera lens I have ever purchased and I couldn't be happier. I love the depth of field I can get with this lens and the image quality is so clear. It is also easy to attach/detach. It's very sturdy, too; a friend accidentally dropped it on the ground and it still works fine.

They dont call it the nifty 50 for nothin! Takes amazing photos and comes out with perfect clairty and depth of field for that blurry background effect

Good fast lense for the price. Was able to get some nice boka. This lense on a crop sensor camera is more equivalant to a 70mm so if you are shooting with a crop sensor body and need wider coverage you will have to be further back for group shots or landscape photography or usr a smaller focal length lense. You won't have this issue if you sre shooting with a full framed body because it will have the focal length of a 50mm. This lense on a crop but works grest as a lower cost portrait lense where on a full frame camera this is a good fast general purpose lense for the money.

is high quality and very useful for portrait and works for the Black magic camera as well. does not have manual gears for the manual focus, there for it must have power connected to it.

Purchase this to take photos of our new grandson. This lens is portable but packs a lot of power! The pictures were absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend this camera lens due to its versatility and buttery imagery for portraits.

They don't call this the Nifty Fifty for nothing. I am a 29 year professional photographer. This lens though it may be small and cheap, fragile even in this design, is more than worth its weight. For such a low cost, this lens should be in every arsenal. If anything, it would be a great backup or video film lens. The Boque of this lens is absolutely gorgeous and I would not go anywhere without it. The downside as I said before is the plastic build. But for such a low price... why the heck not? I recommend for any beginner.
