I love my new camera lens! It changes the game when it comes to my photos that I take!

This lens is a great improvement to the "nifty fifty" line. Compact, lightweight, and very affordable.
Image quality so far is superb. The 7 rounded aperture blades help to improve the look of the out of focus areas of your image. Also, the upgrade to the metal lens mount is nice. It makes the lens feel less cheap than the 50mm 1.8 II.
This is just one of those lenses that you have to have in your bag if you shoot a Canon DSLR. It's just so compact and affordable that you can't not have one!

I purchased this lens mainly because of the larger aperture. I really like how it provides a more shallow depth of field and is used more easily in darker lighting (beacuse of the larger aperture capability). Takes very great shots. You do have to keep in mind that this lens does not zoom in or zoom out, downside, but definitely worth it in my opinion.

I shoot a Canon 70d. After viewing several tutorials and reviews, I decided to supplement my previously acquired Canon lenses with a prime lens for portraits. I had previously used an 18-135 zoom as a primary all around lens, to include portraiture, and occasionally a 70-200 luxury zoom. The Canon 50mm prime in short fashion has proved to be an excellent prime lens in terms of performance at an excellent price point. The focus speed, the wide aperture and the utility of the lens are definite highlights. In using auto focus, I can not speak to use of manual focus with this lens. The lack of image stabilization was a concern but has not proven to be problematic. The small size of the lens has been an asset in terms of not being a distraction to the subjects, carrying my camera and in storing my camera bodies and gear. There was an adjustment to shooting with a shorter barreled lens. Thus far I have not experienced any durability issues with the lens. To date, this has been an excellent addition to my gear.

If you're looking for a good starter prime lens for your Canon DSLR, look no further. With fast and quiet focusing, this is ideal for video. The F1.8 aperture is wonderful if you want to take pictures in low light, or if you want a tasteful blurred background. If you have the old "nifty fifty", I do recommend upgrading to this one.

This an inexpensive little lens but don't let the low price fool you. It takes excellent photos. And I managed to drop one on a concrete sidewalk last weekend, and it still works fine. That's an impressive testament to its solid construction.
A high-quality product at a great price.

The Canon 50mm f1.8 STM lens is the successor to the 50mm f1.8 II. The sharpness is about the same between the two, and either is a great value as an upgrade over an 18-55mm kit lens. The STM version has 2 main advantages from my perspect, both due to the near-silent stepper motor (STM) focusing. First, it makes taking pictures much less annoying because it's way quieter than the previous version. Secondly, the STM comes in handy for videos so you don't hear the focusing noise in your videos - this is only true when paired with newer cameras that support this video auto-focusing (Rebel T4i/T5i/T6i, 70D, 7D Mark II, etc.). Overall, this is a great lens for the price! FYI, it will be an 80mm equivalent lens (50mm x 1.6) for APS-C cameras (Rebel Tx series, 60D/70D, 7D, 7D Mk II, etc.).

Definitely a great lens for the price and for beginners but still useful for the experienced photographer. But can't beat it for the price and everyday usage! Still one of my go to's for photography and always in my lens bag when needed!

Bought this for my daughter and she really liked it. She can take decent pictures using this lens. It is very light and easy to carry. She uses this everywhere when she goes. $ well spend with good purchase price from Thanksgiving weekend.

After shooting on my kit lens (18-55mm) for such a long time, I finally got my hands on this 50mm lens. This is a great lens to upgrade to from the kit lens without breaking your bank account. It takes a little bit of time to get used to it but before you know it, it'll be your walk around lens until your next upgrade.

The lens is great for creating that bokeh effect or blurry background. The downside is that you can't zoom in or out so it gets annoying having to move around a lot but the lens is mainly designed for that blurry background setting so for its purpose its great. Also, very economic so it a definite must buy.

This is a great first prime lens I bought to use with my 6D. The pictures come out great and this is a great lens to learn on. The prime focal length is great for walking around letting you focus on exposures and lighting. This lens is almost always attached to my camera as it is very light and versatile. I love the 50mm STM.

Excellent prime lens. It has become my favourite "go-to" lens in my collection. Light weight, extremely sharp pictures and sturdy -- it has been in some rough cramped situations like slot canyons interiors!
Great lens for someone looking to grow and develop

This is my first lens apart from the kit lens that came with the camera. I love it. The aperture goes down to f1.8, so you can shoot in lower light and you can do really nice shallow depth of field photos with some nice bokeh effect. I'm very happy with it.
