Known by pro as the nifty 50 and the plastic fantastic, this is widely revered as the first lens to buy after you get your DSLR. I have the Canon SL1 (100D), which is a crop sensor...which magnifies the lens to about 85mm equivalent. Perfect for getting in close. The 1.8 aperture is perfect for bokeh. There really is nothing negative I can say about this one. 10/10

Fantastic lense. I was a little nervous at first that it wouldn't fit my camera, because of how old it is, but it did perfectly. The photos come out beautifully. I bought it to take engagement photos. Definitely a great option if you're looking for a portrait lense.

The 50mm 1.8 is hands down the best value lens available for Canon EOS. The lens quality and sharpness are excellent for the price point, build quality is durable.

I'm a beginner photographer, using a Cannon Rebel T7i. I wanted to up my game with depth of field. This lens is amazing for portrait & up close pictures. It's so affordable & the quality turns out great. Would definitely recommend if you're looking for an affordable, easy to use lens to up your photo game.

I bought this lens because it was inexpensive, and also because I wanted to use the 1.8 f stop for blurry background and narrow focal range. It's great for that, great in low light. The only thing I dont like is that it zooms in a bunch on a crop sensor DSLR like my camera. I knew this though. It us a great addition to my camera bag anyways. Love it. And it will be even better on the full frame camera I plan to buy one day! Anyone looking at this lens for a crop sensor camera be aware it will be zoomed in a bunch like 80mm ish.

This is an excellent prime lens which is reasonably priced. Google Christopher Frost on YouTube. He provides excellent camera lens reviews for canon bodies. Christopher Frost's review of this lens is the main reason I purchased it. This lens is much better than the standard Canon 18-55mm STM kit lens. You can't beat an aperture of f1.8 in low light environments.

Bought as a gift for someone, but according to them it was a perfect upgrade from the standard lens that came with the camera I bought for her. Can’t speak from experience but I can say she loves it, and that’s all that matters.

I was debating between this and the EF 40mm. I finally decided on this as it is a f/1.8 and the 40mm was f/2.8. I am very happy with my choice. The f/1.8 does make a big difference especially with the portraits. Its a good lens for video too as it is STM. Only one thing about shooting video on the 50mm is that your range is locked to 50mm only, no zoom. So keep in mind if you are buying this lens for video.

The lens is fantastic when you are doing portrait photography. The lens's automatic focus correction works excellent as it can adjust to focus on the object you're pointing your camera to. The size is very convenient to fit into your bag. The price is very reasonable and affordable. It was ready to roll straight out of the box for your photo shoot.

New to photography and it is difficult. This lens has taken my best pictures, and is my go-to for indoor pictures of the babies. You really have to do your research before you spend the money on a lens- I've got 3 already, and am still trying to figure out how to get great shots. Do yourself a favor and learn the camera first, then start buying lenses when you can't get what you need from the lens you start off with. I've already spent as much on lenses as I did the camera, and I can't return any of it without taking a loss for restocking.
