Our camera came with a telephoto lens, so we wanted a fixed length OEM lens. It was available in store on a discount.

I absolutely love this lens. Its my go to lens for portrait photography and it barely leaves my camera (canon rebel). The quality is awesome for the price. This is a must have if you have a canon rebel and enjoy portrait photography.

I was debating between this and the EF 40mm. I finally decided on this as it is a f/1.8 and the 40mm was f/2.8. I am very happy with my choice. The f/1.8 does make a big difference especially with the portraits. Its a good lens for video too as it is STM. Only one thing about shooting video on the 50mm is that your range is locked to 50mm only, no zoom. So keep in mind if you are buying this lens for video.

New to photography and it is difficult. This lens has taken my best pictures, and is my go-to for indoor pictures of the babies. You really have to do your research before you spend the money on a lens- I've got 3 already, and am still trying to figure out how to get great shots. Do yourself a favor and learn the camera first, then start buying lenses when you can't get what you need from the lens you start off with. I've already spent as much on lenses as I did the camera, and I can't return any of it without taking a loss for restocking.

from beginners to advanced photographers, the nifty fifty is a must have lens. Whether you shoot on APSc or full frame, the 50mm 1.8 is an unbeatable tool. Very small and lightweight, doesn't take up any room in your kit bag, and doesn't add any extra weight or bulk either. Pictures look great straight from 1.8 and only get better when stopped down. Probably not the greatest lens to have on something like a 5dsR, but then again, someone with that camera probably isn't looking at this lens

Fantastic lense. I was a little nervous at first that it wouldn't fit my camera, because of how old it is, but it did perfectly. The photos come out beautifully. I bought it to take engagement photos. Definitely a great option if you're looking for a portrait lense.

This is a very inexpensive way to get a f1.8 lens. I got it as part of my transition to full-frame cameras and lenses. Very small, very light, and obviously "fast." I use it mostly for video, and this is where the small and light becomes a negative. I can't get my follow focus to fit between this lens and anything. I still use it, just requires work-arounds.

    Best Lens for the Money

Why would you need this lens: • If you only have the kit lens, this lens is going to be your best friend. • It will improve your low light (indoor) photography because of the f/1.8 aperture that gathers more light than the f/3.5-5.8 kit lens. • Any other fast prime lens will cost upwards of $300, so this is a great value for what you get. It truly is the heart and soul of budget photography. • STM motor means quiet and smooth focusing for video, which would be unusable if shot with the loud kit lens.

I was looking for a prime lens with a wide aperture at an affordable price. This lens fits my needs. Takes great pictures with shallow depth of field that I love!
