Although I’m still learning how to use my camera, this lens is a nice, sturdy basic lens that seems to have a decent field of vision.

This lens is a great addition to my already Canon EF 70 - 300 IS USM Telephoto lens. It's a wonderful lens for those real close-ups that you have been wanting to take. Great lens for an outdoorsman who wants to get in-touch with the outdoors!

Though the AF is a little slow, it does the work perfectly for a prime lens. Nice shutter which captures more light than the usual 18-55. Perfect for home use and well lit photography.

If you’re looking for a good overall everyday lens without breaking the bank, this is it. Absolutely love mine. I do a lot of automotive photography as well as portrait and landscape and this is my go to lens for all different applications. Now, for better landscape I’d recommend maybe checking out a 35mm to get more wide angle but this is a great overall lens.

just bought the canon SL2 and decided to buy this lens as well based on the reviews here. When I first put the lens on I immediately decided I was going to return it as everything seemed zoomed in. To get a good picture you have to stand back a bit to catch the entire body of the subject. However I decided to give it a try later on in the day and boy was I blown away!!!! The quality of the pictures and the bokeh effect are AMAZING. So glad I didn’t return it. Takes some getting used to if your accustomed to zoom lenses and capturing wider shots. But the purpose of this lens are for up close portrait shots and this thing exceeds my expectations. Video: no good. Focus is too slow so don’t expect much for video.

So you're buying your first lens outside of the standard kit lens? This 50mm needs to be it. It will help you to become a better photographer, you're forced to move around and you will notice how much deeper the colors are and the more bokeh you can get. It's a steal and it needs to be in your collection. Just remember to use different lenses for different occasions, if you're into landscapes, this lens won't do the job but tight images and portraits, its gonna be your go to.
