    This lens is great for portraits due to its large max aperture. For the price you shouldn't expect a ton but it performs nicely. Pretty darn sharp when stopped down.

    You get what you pay for, cheap plastic body, slow and a bit load when hunting around, but can also get awesome quality images.

    We bought this for portrait mode. We don’t use it as much as I thought we would. The other lens have zoom and this doesn’t. I would still buy it.

    This is a great lens. I purchased this for a nephew (I have the 1.4) who is new to photography. The 1.8 prime is a great lens and I would recommend this to anyone.

    This 50mm f/1.8 lens *without Image Stabilization* is a great performer and anyone using it would benefit from a tripod if using longer exposure times. Highly recommended.

    This is an upgrade from Canon's other buget prime lens. It has a metal base instead of a plastic one and a stepping moter that is great if you shoot video.
