Much better than the previous nifty fifty

If you have a DSLR and your looking to expand your lens collection this is a great place to start. I'm content with the sharpness even at f1.8 but if you stop it down to f2-f2.8 you can get some very good results. Being a STM lens it is also considerably quieter its predecessor. Occasionally you do get a little noise when focusing but nothing that will distract you or your subject. Build quality is nice but still feels pretty cheap. You can't expect too much when after all this is the cheapest lens canon sells. If you have a spare $100 and want to take your photography to the next level with a great prime lens, this is where you need to start.

Must have for any Canon SLR/Mirrorless owner

What a value! The quality is much better than the 2nd gen. model, and even better than the 1st gen. Anyone that wants to learn photography needs to get this lens. I use it on a APC-C SLR for indoor middle/high school sports.
