There are many reviews out their, but this is why I chose Canon EOS R over any other: 1. Beautiful cinematic color and shadow gradient on subject. 2. A new definition of sharpness, where subject does blend in a perfect way as we see through our eyes. 3. Outstanding AF. 4. Sharp native lenses Canon has started for EOS R. 5. Beautiful Low-light performance.

From extreme macro (MP-E 65mm) to extreme telephoto (800 to 6,000mm) this body is a fabulously capable body. Dynamic range on the detector is more than adequate for pushing the limits of existing/ambient lighting. Very please with this system.

I am an existing Canon user that bought this full frame body to practice more landscape and nature photography. Have initially been putting the EOS R through it's paces with some wildlife photography. Really like the image quality from this sensor. My existing Canon lenses (primarily Canon 100-400mm II) work flawlessly with this body and EF adaptor. Much better high ISO noise performance than my 7D ii. The silent mode is great for close shooting of wildlife. However quick moving subject may be distorted on silent mode. Wish the electronic view finder "woke back up" more quickly when needing to quickly frame a shot. Overall I am happy with this body and am interested to see where Canon goes with their frameless line.

The EOS R is a great sub if you can’t afford the EOS R5 or don’t wanna spend $3,899. While there are some amazing features on the R5 such as the ibis, 8k raw video, 45mp, etc. the EOS R is not too far behind for its prince point. When paired with a good lens, you’ll be able to take amazing photos at 30.3 mp! Some lens have built in stabilization so there’s way to counterbalance a imitation of a the R5’s ibis.

Bought this for my daughter. Very nice camera at a competitive price but Best Buy gave me the run around trying to pickup curbside. Canon was sold out so I tried BEST Buy. When I ordered it online it promised next day pick up at one store but emailed me the next morning saying it wasn’t there and I would have to drive nearly an hour to another store. I had them ship it and got it a few days later. In all fairness it was a Black Friday purchase so inventory was scanty.

Great camera. Price was right and the sensor from the 5d4 is terrific. Only thing missing is in camera stabilization, But for the money the R4 is a great value

Received my camera in the mail today. I was so excited! When I opened the box I saw the camera box (inside the giant shipping box) with no bubble wrap. It would not have been a super big issue but the camera box itself was beat up. So I held my breath and hoped everything inside was packaged nicely so that the rest of the problems wouldn’t matter. I opened the camera box and I was shook!! Nothing in the box was wrapped or placed properly. Everything was tumbling around the box no styrofoam, no plastic wrap, nothing. It was obvious someone has had this camera before. I bought this camera brand new so it should have been reviewed brand new, untouched. There was finger prints all over the screen and some white stuff all over the camera that I did wipe off while I inspected it. Very disappointed! I had to drive all the way to the closest store. I received my package on Wednesday and I needed this camera this weekend for a shoot. I asked for a manager and he made it all right. I will be getting a new camera by Friday with a discount for the inconvenience. Way to go OPELIKA BEST BUY! They saved the day. Hoping the next camera will be in new condition.

I spent a year with the EOS RP and wanted to upgrade to the R or R6. After some deliberation, I went with the R. Note that I am 99% stills and 1% video so my review will focus on photography. Coming from the RP, I immediately noticed the bigger body and better grip. Feels a lot better in my hands. The other upgrade comes in image quality. The R's sensor is simply superior. I can get more dynamic range and less noise under high ISO - the RP started showing noise at ISO 1600, the R stays clean at up to 3200. Other than those, these two cameras are mostly the same. The touch bar is as worthless as people say - I set it to ISO but find myself faster with the touchscreen regardless. Top OLED screen is cool but let's be honest, you won't be looking at it when shooting. In practice, I actually prefer the good old PSAM dial. Still, if you absolutely need IBIS and dual card slots, spend the extra $700 and go with the R6. I don't need either since my RF lenses have good OIS and I am not a pro. The Nikon Z6 is actually better AND cheaper than the R at this moment, but I like the affordable RF lenses than Z counterparts. You won't go wrong with either system.

Compact camera, large lens not as rugged as 1DX

Bought this camera to replace my 1DX as i am a serious hobbyists. Took to Buenos Aires on vacation - it takes awesome shots, lots of new features. Lightweight - although the R lens are big and heavy. Mid-way thru my trip in a rain down pore - the camera got wet despite protective plastic protective sleeve coving most of the computer - somehow the electronics stopped working. After a day of drying up most buttons and features seemed to return except the shutter. Luckily after a call to support they suggested i use the touch screen to shoot. Not optimal but it allowed me to take photos the rest of the trip. Upon returning home i shipped the camera back to canon for repair. There was a disconnect with requesting a repair and whether it was subject to the canon care plus warranty. Initially they billed me for $600 for corrosion. When i pointed out that i had the care plus package i got a revised no cost quote. The care plus package had some contradictory descriptions on what is and isn’t covered. It should water damage as subject to coverage but also states that it isn’t. Anyway, they are not charging me. I should have the camera back in 5 days. Will update my review. Ultimately like the camera, and like the service and response i received. I don;t like that the camera is not as water proof as the 1DX. Lesson learned. Btw canon would not post this review on their website

5D Mark IV is expensive. but with the same features and cheaper price, EOS R is worth try. Pros: Cheaper Price (Comparing to 5DIV) Light weight Focus Area Cons: 1. Body looks weaker like 6D, 80D, or rebel series. not strong as 5D/7D series. so buttons not comfortable for longer shoots. 2. Touch bar is not comfortable, would prefer buttons instead, useless to me. 3. Image preview in viewfinder too. have to press the button to leave preview image after every click. its really annoying. I tried to turning it off completely. it turns off in both display screen and view finder. 4. There is glitch with External Flash (I use Canon 530EX). ISO turns to Auto mode and it goes to 1600 automatically. It happens randomly. couldn't replicate when I try to reach customer care. 5. Single memory card slot But considering its price and other features, I don't expect Pro body features in EOS R. so these cons are negligible.

Pros: Canon color science. Overall quality of build is better than any other camera brand. The menu system is simple and easy to learn. Auto focus is fantastic. Cons: No IBIS, 4k crop, no wide array of native lens selection yet... I love my camera. The photos that come out of it are beautiful once you figure it out and the 1080p looks better than a lot of its competitors 4k. While it lacks in some areas it makes up for in others and they are going to save those cons for their next camera. While the Lense selection is thin right now, RF lenses will be the new set of widely used lenses in years to come. So while this camera isn't future proof, It provides enough value get you well into the future.

I have used the EOS R for 10 days or so, I have over 3k exposures. I am switching from a 5d iv, I do not use it for video. Here are the things I like: -Great picture quality -Silent Shutter -Works with my 24-70 f2.8 II, 70-200 f2.8IS II and other lenses without a problem with the adapter. -Single point single shot Autofocus works great. -MOST of the time face detection with Eye detection works. -Ring on the adapter(Sold separately), I have set ut up for Aperture, I really like this even though the ring is a bit to close to the camera. -The FV mode is probably my favorite new feature. -Great battery life, not sure how they measure the battery life for the specs, but I am getting an average of 900 photos per charge. -Touch Screen as good as the 5d iv Things that I need to get used to -Touch and Drag autofocus -Multi-function bar, I have programmed it to ISO, left side ISO 100, right side ISO 3,600, it works. Things that need improvement: -Face Autofocus, it works great 90% of the time, but sometimes just decides that the hands or a chair are the face. -The touch and drag autofocus can be more responsive, meaning when I touch the screen while looking through the viewfinder the to change the focus point sometimes I need to swipe a few times to get to the point I want. I have tested different options, like mapping the screen to 1/4, to 1/2 to absolute and relative. It works but not as good as it could! -Bursts silent shooter. -More options to customize the buttons. For example, I would like to not only program the back button for Back Button Focus but to go to specify what type of autofocus (single/servo, single point or different areas, etc...) In conclusion, I am very happy with the EOS R and know that when Canon releases a firmware upgrade I will be really really happy with the camera!

I have purchased this camera months ago, waited to get a great feel for it before reviewing. I love my Canon EOS R! I dont do much cinematography so the crop doesn’t bother me. The camera is 30.3 mp, if i recall correctly, which is great for the price! Im able to blow up prints to poster size and crop in without losing details. I have no desire to upgrade my camera any time soon as it does everything that I need it to. If you have the extra 1-2,000 to get the R6 or R5, of course go with the newer models. I know the R3 is out, but to be frank, who has that disposable income laying around.

Got the EOS R as a backup to my 5D Mark IV. Photo and video quality is excellent, and with the basic converter, I can use all of my EF lenses. Just shot my first wedding (photos) using the EOS R along with my 5D4. The EOS R images look great, and I actually got a higher percentage of keepers with the R: Autofocus is really excellent. I've also shot a bit of video with the R. I find the video looks great, but auto white balance can wander a bit... so I use a specific Kelvin temperature for my white balance whenever possible. I'm also finding that my SD card sticks a bit when I try to remove it from the camera. Not sure what is causing that. In general, I think the R is a really great camera at $1000 LESS than the 5D Mark 4.

Excellent photo quality and low light performance with full frame sensor. Have used it many nights taking moon shots and moonless night shots. Lots of fun using rear LCD to make adjustments to camera settings to see what the impact is on the photo to be taken. Very easy to use. I use the mount adapter to use my EF lenses and it works great.
