Great camera! Decided to upgrade from DSLR. Most cost effective full frame camera I have found.

Amazing camera in every way, for the price. My last camera was a T3i (600D) and this is a major upgrade. My macro photography has improved considerably.

I took this to Italy for two weeks and loved the compact, easy-to-use Canon. The images look great, the dials are easy to navigate and the compact size is good for travel. I will look into other lenses once I have a good feel for all of the bells and whistles of this camera.

The Canon EOS R8 is an impressive addition to Canon’s mirrorless lineup, delivering powerful performance in a compact, lightweight body. Designed primarily for content creators, vloggers, and hobbyist photographers, it offers a compelling mix of features, particularly for those who want 4K video capture in a portable format.
**Design and Build**
The R8 has a sleek, modern design that mirrors its higher-end R-series siblings but in a more affordable, user-friendly package. The camera is remarkably lightweight for a full-frame mirrorless, weighing just 461 grams, which makes it an excellent option for travel or handheld shooting. Despite its compact size, it feels sturdy in hand, with a well-placed grip and intuitive button layout.
**Image Quality**
Equipped with a 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and Canon's latest DIGIC X processor, the R8 delivers sharp, vibrant images with impressive color accuracy and detail. Dynamic range is solid, allowing for good flexibility in post-processing. Low-light performance is also noteworthy, producing clean images even at higher ISOs.
**4K Video**
One of the standout features of the R8 is its 4K video capabilities. It can shoot in 4K up to 60fps, which is a significant upgrade over many other cameras in this price range. The 4K footage looks crisp, and the camera utilizes oversampling from the 6K sensor, which helps in achieving a more cinematic look with minimal crop. This makes it an excellent option for videographers, offering smooth autofocus and great image quality without the compromises that often come with cameras in this class.
**Autofocus**
Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system is present here, ensuring fast, accurate, and smooth autofocus performance in both stills and video. Eye-tracking and subject recognition work exceptionally well, making it easy to capture sharp, focused shots even during action or moving subjects. The autofocus is a real highlight for creators who need reliability and speed.
**Connectivity and Usability**
The R8 supports a variety of connectivity options, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and USB-C, making it simple to share photos or control the camera remotely. The fully articulating touchscreen is a big plus for vloggers and selfie-shooters, offering flexibility when framing shots at various angles. The 3-inch LCD screen is bright and responsive, providing clear visuals even outdoors.
**Battery Life**
Battery life is generally solid for a mirrorless camera, offering around 370 shots per charge, though heavy video usage can deplete the battery faster. An external power source or extra batteries may be necessary for long shoots.
**Limitations**
While the R8 excels in many areas, it does have a few limitations. The lack of in-body image stabilization (IBIS) means you'll need to rely on lens-based stabilization or a tripod for stable handheld shots, especially in low light or during video recording. The camera also lacks a dedicated headphone jack for audio monitoring, which might be a dealbreaker for some video professionals.
**Conclusion**
The Canon EOS R8 offers an excellent balance of performance, portability, and affordability, especially for those looking to shoot high-quality 4K video or stills without breaking the bank. Its impressive autofocus, full-frame sensor, and 4K video features make it a standout choice for content creators, casual photographers, and vloggers alike. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of higher-end models, its value for money is tough to beat.

I'm absolutely thrilled with my Canon EOS R8 camera! The exceptional image quality, coupled with its intuitive interface and impressive autofocus, has taken my photography to the next level. The camera's lightweight and compact design make it perfect for travel and everyday shooting. With features like 6K oversampled uncropped 4K video at up to 60 fps and Dual Pixel CMOS AF II, I've captured stunning portraits, landscapes, and wildlife shots.

I upgraded from a crop-sensor DSLR and it feels levels above. I like how light it is, the low light performance, the fact that it has 4k video, and the simplicity of the dials and buttons - also the flip screen helps immensely. It is great for doing both photography and videography.
I've had one instance of overheating, which was annoying, but it was when I was doing 4k 60 fps video and switching to taking photos as well - must have stressed the camera out a bit. Otherwise I've had no overheating warnings.
The battery life is so-so... but I'm able to use my crop-sensor DSLR batteries with this camera, so that is a big win.
Finally no IBIS is challenging. I'll be making sure any other lenses I get have good image stabilization.
Overall I'm very impressed and excited by the camera.

This is my first mirrorless camera. I previously shot with a Canon Rebel T6. I like the compact size and image quality this camera offers. With the canon EF to RF adapter I'm able to use all my old EF Lenses and they all work great on the new camera. The RF 24-50mm lens that comes with this camera has great image quality for a kit lens . I'm very impressed with this camera and look forward to taking more photos with it for years to come.

The Canon R8 is an absolute beast wrapped up in a small form factor that just feels right in the hands. The clarity and video capabilities are top notch for a $1,500 camera that includes a kit lens. Purchased in March, this is the perfect camera for the avid wedding photographer, perfect for family events, and vivid colors for Spring time photo shoots. Weighing less than the average DSLR, the full frame mirror less camera gets the job done without weighing you down. The video capabilities of this camera also make it cool as well. With the ability to record in C-Log, those colors can really pop in post production. The Canon R8 is a fun and sporty version of its bigger brother, the Canon EOS R6 Mark II for about $1,000 less. I would highly suggest purchasing the Canon R8 if you’re looking for a portable camera with a lot of power, and coolness that kicks the competitors away. Check out the Canon R8 if you want a nice camera at a great price!

The Canon R8 is compact, takes great pictures and the autofocus is very fast. Also if you shoot RAW, the RAW images can be pushed in post and the colors are excellent. The video options are good for this price level.

For the price point, this camera is an animal! Having used Sony and Nikon mirrorless systems before Canon, I can say that I’m kicking myself for not switching to Canon sooner! The battery dies a bit quicker, to be expected as it is a smaller body/ battery, but the quality of the camera, photos, video, and how easy it is to use is fantastic! It’s a blast every time I take the camera out!

This is a fantastic entry level, full frame, budget camera that is the little brother to the R6 Mark II. An upgrade from the RP, you get the form factor and ease of use of the RP but get the sensor and processor or the R6 Mark II. Also, the overheating problems associated with the RP while filming video are gone. My wife and I also own the R6 Mark II. If it weren't for the fact that we must use the R6 Mark II with Canon's RF 5.2mm VR lens, we would just use the R8. We love this camera!

Pros:
One noteworthy advantage of this camera resides in its remarkably swift autofocus system, capable of achieving an impressive rate of up to 179 frames per second in Full HD resolution. This exceptional autofocus proficiency ultimately translates into the production of exceptionally high-quality results, capturing moments with unparalleled precision and speed. Additionally, the camera's compact and lightweight design adds another feather to its cap, ensuring convenience and ease of transportation for photographers and videographers on the move.
Cons:
Nonetheless, a few notable drawbacks mar the otherwise promising picture. First and foremost, the camera's ergonomics fall short of the desired standard, potentially leading to discomfort during prolonged usage. This ergonomic deficiency may be particularly irksome for photographers and videographers who rely heavily on the camera's performance over extended periods. Moreover, the camera's battery life is regrettably disappointingly brief, necessitating frequent recharging and potentially limiting its usability during extended shooting sessions. Furthermore, the camera's build quality, or the lack thereof, imparts an impression of fragility and flimsiness, which could undermine the confidence of the user, hinting at a less-than-robust construction akin to a fragile plastic device.
Verdict:
In conclusion, the camera, with its extraordinary autofocus capabilities and portability, emerges as an appealing option for hybrid users and travelers, who often seek a combination of swift performance and ease of transport. However, it is imperative for potential users to recognize the need for an additional battery pack investment to alleviate the camera's frustratingly inadequate battery life, which could otherwise limit its suitability for extended usage scenarios. While the camera's shortcomings are evident, its strengths, when harnessed effectively, make it a compelling choice for a specific niche of users.

Although there's only one SD card slot this camera knocks it out of the park with features. The people eye focus and the animal eye focus feature works just as good as my R5. We purchased this camera to take on vacation in January, we didn't want to possibly lose or damage the Canon EOS R5 while on our cruise. This camera is easy to pick up and go with so many great features.

This camera is everything I wanted in a camera and more. The mirrorless feature offers for more crisp, clear looking photos. My favorite parts about it is how light weight and compact it is while also offering a digital view finder and a level to make sure your photos are leveled.

I upgraded from the Canon T7 to Canon R8, and I’m FLOORED by the quality of this camera. It’s insanely light, which makes long days of shooting a breeze. Far more comfortable than my previous model! If you’re thinking of upgrading, and the R8 is on your list, DEFINITELY purchase it!
