Printer worked great, Canon firmware disabled it
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have loved my Canon imageCLASS printer until yesterday. My printer prompted me to update my firmware. I assumed that Canon had my best interests in mind, but they did the exact opposite. Once installed, the firmware caused my printer to no longer accept the third-party toner I have been using. To be crystal clear: The ONLY thing that was changed was the firmware update. Before the update, my printer worked flawlessly. After 3 hours of troubleshooting, I came across an article that explained the firmware issue. I bought a Canon brand toner cartridge for $145, installed it, and now my printer recognizes it as a new cartridge. I have now dedicated 6 hours of my workday productivity and $145 to this printer, and my call with customer support ended with them offering to replace one toner cartridge for me (I have to pay for the other three). I have a $700 printer that's not working, and I have $300 in unused toner. I also need to spend $800 on new toner. When I ask Canon if I am required to use Canon-brand toner, I am told it is not a requirement. I am told that there are risks to using an off-brand toner, and I am comfortable with those risks. I have been using an off-brand toner with that understanding for several months. The risks of using an off-brand toner have proven to be far less than the risks of trusting Canon. If there is any possible way that this firmware update has been beneficial to me as a Canon user, I would be thrilled if Canon would enlighten me. Canon, do you have any insight into why you would deliberately send an update to a user's device without notifying them of the potential issues it could cause, and what the sole benefit of this update is to your company? Canon intentionally sabotaged my printer for its own profit. That is disgusting behavior.

Great Printer
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve owned hundreds of printers but this one is by far the best. My only wish is that toner cartridges were not so expensive. But I knew that and purchased it anyway.

Ready to step back into time?
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this for a little over a month and use it for a small business. Upgraded from a HP as I needed duplex scanning, in addition to my other requirements of a color laser MFP that has ADF. To be honest, I dislike this unit. It eats up Avery label and jams every so often. Plus the user interface is clunky and having to go online to manage features brings me back to the early 90's. Not sure how much longer I will stick with this printer. My suggestion - look elsewhere.

Doesn't live up to the Canon standard
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations for this printer and even purchased it on sale for $500. However, not even 2 weeks of minimal printing and I already had to purchase new cyan and yellow toner. I understand this was a starter pack, but I wasn't expecting that. Also, for some reason THIS model printer takes the most expensive toner I've seen. The Canon toner number for this machine is 069. Look up the cost. Each toner color is about $220 before tax and shipping. Other toners like 067 are only $78 each. Another issue, I've already gotten a black mark down the side of my prints now. In just 2 weeks. Lastly, I tried to make a color copy and the color was WAYYYY off. I'm not sure what's so special about this printer. BTW, I'm an IT Director and have worked in IT for 20+ years. And I have specifically worked with Large Canon printers for years. I've always liked Canon, but this one wasn't the one for me. I'll have to return it.
