If one of the cartridges is running low, let's say the black & white ink & your color might have some ink still left in it. You still need to replace the color cartridge.

Canon Cartridge Ink

I wouldn’t say it was any better than the ones you order from non name brand vendors. But it’s a necessity and convenient. Non brand online ones can take a while to arrive to your home.
