    Horrible Setup

Prior to the Canon MX922, I had an HP Pro8625. I went thru 2 of those (both of which died just after warranty expired). Sick of HP, I went back to Canon. The setup on this was absolutely ridiculous! I spent 4+ hours trying to get it setup (and I know how to use computers). Every time I put in the software, it would be nearly setup then go into error mode and restart my computer without loading it properly. I had to uninstall and reinstall this about six times before getting ready to return this piece of hooey (I can't say the word I wanted to). I FINALLY found setup instructions online for this and newly updated Windows 10 OS. Without those instructions, I would be returning this. Now that it's up and running, it seems to work pretty well and I have it networked to every computer in the house. The software that came with it won't load, except for the scan function. FYI - I don't like the scanning as I can't review anything that I put in the ADF. Only items on the Platen Glass can be reviewed, cropped, etc. Stupid feature since the ADF touted as a great scan feature. I purchased this product for the economics of it. I would NOT purchase it again.

HUGE Step Backward in Scanning Software

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

This was a replacement for my PIXMA MX860, which generally worked well but had wireless connectivity glitches. Best thing about that model was the excellent scanning software (MP Navigator EX) which allowed you to scan a series of docs thru the ADF and/or on the plate, and then preview thumbnails of each individual scan before saving the document. Very useful software. This week my MX860 gave me the ominous "B200 error" message. When Best Buy advertised the MX922 at a GREAT price, I thought, I'll just upgrade to the current version of this series, kick the old one to the curb, and avoid the struggle that comes with "tech learning curve." What I got was a downgrade: the MX922 is NOT compatible with MP Navigator EX scanning software. The Canon IJ Scan Utility that replaced it is very simplistic, and does not give the user the thumbnail preview capability prior to saving a scan file. Canon Support confirms this. Apparently they have no intention of ever making MP Navigator EX compatible with the MX922. This has inconvenienced a number of their loyal customers, including me, At the bargain price I paid ($74.99) I now realize they essentially gave me a printer for free, and I paid the cost of one set of ink cartridges. I'll use this printer, never replace the cartridges, and go find a different multifunction with those scanning features. I didn't do my homework on the MX922 prior to buying it, so I'll accept part of the blame for my personal dissatisfaction.

Slow printing but good quality for the price.

I had a little trouble setting it up. It wouldn't print in wireless mode. Luckily my son is a programmer. Otherwise, for a computer Neanderthal like me, it probably would have been a problem. It takes quite a bit of time for the computer, which is new and fast due to a solid state drive, to communicate to the printer. Maybe the correct way to state this is that it takes the printer awhile to understand the commands. It prints quickly once it gets going but it takes time. But I don't print much so that doesn't matter. Print quality is good even on gray scale. So far I have just done very basic printing so I cannot comment on all the bells and whistles, faxing or copying. I also have not had to change the ink cartridges yet.

Printer is a great printer for a great price. Prints fast enough, has cloud print, can view scanned images on LCD, print discs, fax and more.

    Excellent Printer

Have only used product for printing so far. Print quality is excellent. Slow to shut off sometimes. Purchased partly to print wirelessly from iPad, which it will do, but Web pages w/ pics & text do not format correctly when printed (suspect that's more Apple's or the iPad's problem than the printer). Occasionally makes noise when idle, but does not bother me.

This printer was a replacement for a Canon MX820 (which was an excellent printer). The 922 is built cheaply in comparison. Have only used the unit for a couple of weeks; have had no problems printing; have not been able to scan and now the delivery door, which is supposed to stay closed when not in use, will no longer close.

Well just got home with the printer, it is the first one I have bought. It was very easy to set up, very simple instructions. I am sure it is going to work great. Unfortunately I do not have a wireless network, and being a noob I did not get a USB A to B cable. So I am unable to use it (sigh). I wish Best Buy's web site had mentioned it. Will have to buy one tomorrow after work. So if you do not already have one and you are not using a wireless network...DO NOT FORGET YOUR USB CABLE :)

This printer is just what I was looking for in a 4 function printer. Excellent for my needs. Only negatives: 1) the printer uses quite a bit of color ink, 2) printer is noisy, but worth it for the quality of print (text and pictures). Canon has a high quality printer for the price.

too many wireless set up issues

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Issue 1) wireless set up was very difficult. Had to repeat the process multiple times. Machine was very slow to reponsd. 2) wireless reception was terrible. when within ten feet of wireless router only showed 11% network access. 3) Print is sllllooooo-oo-oo-ooww! and it sounds like it is in digestive distress during and after printing. My wife would print something from the Mac, and it would actually print maybe 10 minutes later. Print and scanning were excellent. But wireless was a deal breaker. I worked on this for three weeks before I said it was just not worth the aggravation.

    PIXMA all the way

I have had servral Canon PIXMA printers (my last one lasted 8 years) and I have to say this one is the best for speed so far. I is a quiet printer and a bonus is the sleek design with the closing paper discharge not only adds a sleek look but makes it easy to dust. Ink cost as well as reliability are two reasons I chose Canon.

    Avoid the Canon MX922

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Canon multifunction printers had had a mixed history, some performing extremely well and others being mediocre.. Usually these machines have 4 functions: print, copy, fax and scan. The relative importance of these depends on the user. Everyone needs to print documents from time to time, but there is less need for photo printing as people store photos on their phones. Faxing is not usually necessary when you can send documents as email attachments, and copying is occasionally useful. But with digital storage of documents and photos now cheap and easily available, scanning has become the most useful function for many. And it's scanning where the MX922 is most disappointing. In my experience scanning a variety of documents, the scans always came out looking faded, with low contrast and hard to read. This was true regardless of whether the original was fed through the document feeder or placed on the glass platen. There was no way to improve the scans using the included IJ Scan software, which is badly designed, cumbersome to use, and seriously limits the user's ability to make quick, clean looking scans. Previous Canon MF printers came with Canon's MP Toolbox, or the more recent MP Navigator EX. These are excellent programs, easy to use with great functionality. To replace these programs with the IJ Scan program makes one wonder what Canon is thinking, since IJ Scan is a major step backward. Whether this is due to incompetence or just a lack of concern for its customers, it raises questions about Canon's ability to create useful products. Other problems with the MX922 include very slow and cumbersome paper handling for duplex scans, tedious setup procedure, no USB cable supplied, and inability to set up a wireless connection if your computer is connected to your network by a USB or Ethernet cable. Although I have a long history of buying Canon printers and scanners, I was happy to return the MX922 and replace it with an HP multifunction printer. Before buying any future Canon printer I would make sure there was an adequate return policy, since it now seems there is a good chance it will be needed.

Reliable Workhorse for over 4 years

We bought our Canon MX922 inkjet printer from Bestbuy over four years ago. It has lasted longer than any printer we have ever owned. We have owned lots HP and Epson printers, that usually last about a year before they start having problems. So two years ago we bought a 2nd MX922 printer because of it reliability and quality printing for our two boys in college to use instead of our home office printer. In our house, we go through a ream or two of paper every month and we have not had one paper jam or bad print come out of either of them. Our only complaint is of course printer ink cost. Buying the XL helps cut cost. We would recommend the Canon MX922 printer for people who like a reliable inkjet printer.

Tired of spending BIG$$$$ for Color Lasers, their problems are expensive to fix. This Cannon is easy to set up, prints well, & I got it real cheap on sale. I've only had it for about 4 months, but no problems yet.
