Great point and shoot camera alternative

I was in the market for a quick point and shoot camera that will offer quality pictures of a DSLR. While it’s not dslr status it is a great alternative. Auto Focus is clear and quick enough. The size and weight is fantastic. Video features are also great. No 4K capabilities but realistically I think 4K needs more development in technology. I compared this to a Sony rx100v. The Sony by far will destroy this camera but there were two critical requirements that the Sony could not deliver. 1. Touch screen AF 2. 180 deg Tilt screen Btw buy an extra battery a factory Canon. The generic batteries are questionable.

I use this camera for my entertainment purposes for youtube vides/facebook. The adjustable frame rate for time laps was the big pusher for me buying this camera and it was well worth it, excellent on par quality. The only negative was that it does not contain an external mic port which is the only somewhat bad thing, but the mic is very persistent. To give an idea I was recently filming a 1980 camera fully stocked out at 650 horse power being revved up inside of a garage, to us it was loud and beautiful, thinking that the mic will be blurted, after reviewing footage it picked up what could be used as a sound clip dub over for movies. so the sound was on par. The camera does have weight to it and once you hold it you will understand why, it's very strong feeling being made out of almost all metal. This camera does have a variety of different functions/features on it which would be better explained through best buy or the canon website or youtube. I always do my research on an electronic item before buying, I had reviewed over a hundred cameras for 8 months and kept leaning towards the canon g7x mark ii. Definitely check it you do your research and come into the store to see it first hand. Also to add the camera stabilizer (if your walking the shot will keep it steady vs shaking) is incredible. I use a car mount and this keeps pretty straight and steady on gravel, highways etc. also great for using your time lapse feature. It's well worth every penny, I worked a lot of overtime to afford this camera and I do not regret it.

This camera DOES NOT use dual pixel AF or any other phase detect AF system in it. Manage your autofocus expectations accordingly. Especially in low light and in video. However, it does have a noticeable improvement in speed over its predecessor and for most situations it's fine. What this camera excels at, just like its predecessor, is stills. It has excellent low and mid ISO image quality. I prefer the Fine Detail setting as my picture style as it provide excellent sharpness and punchy, great-looking colors by default. But there are a number of other picture styles to suit your tastes. I also love that this camera now has in camera raw processing, which can be useful. It seems also like Canon has quietly made some improvements to the lens because it seems a bit sharper than the one on the G7X even though they are supposed to be the same. Video quality is also excellent and quite sharp. The autofocus is pretty good but because it's contrast detect, you will see a little bit of back and forth motion with the focus from time but otherwise it's not bad. Great for casual uses such as vlogging. The camera controls are well laid-out. I like the chunkier grip and that the exposure comp dial has better feedback to it. The one its predecessor could be a little hard to turn (but kudos to Canon for at least including one - Sony RX100 has no such dial on top). The LCD is bright and clear and also is more flexible, which means it's a lot easier to compose on in bright sunlight. Battery life is not stellar but once again, this also an improvement over the original G7X. It should last you a day of shooting. Complaints? I think the major one is, and this seems to be an issue on both the G7X and the RX100 series cameras, is that dust can easily get inside the lens. Even though the camera has a built-in automatic lens cap, it does a poor job at keeping dust and other particles out. But overall, a great enthusiast compact camera. The 1" Sony sensor inside is still relatively small compared to APSC rebels or mirrorless but it punches above its weight in image quality. If you really don't see yourself going much beyond the kit lens if you were to buy a Rebel, this could be a great alternative. It takes great photos and video, has improved AF and battery life over the original, and it comfortable to shoot with.

OK. Although the video on this camera is very good, I am not a vlogger and I am writing this review from a casual photographers point of view. I wanted a new camera and wasn't sure I was ready for a DSLR. I've had other point-and-shoot cameras that were "OK". The main problem I had was shooting in low light without streaks or other artifact. Enter the Powershot G7X MII. This camera fits the bill. Even on full auto, pictures are amazing in daylight and night scenes. Great color and sharpness. This camera also has many manual settings that I have started to play with and learned how to improve the quality in different situations. It shoots RAW and JPEG and you can shoot both simultaneously. It's a little more than I though I would spend on a point-and-shoot camera but with an f1.8-f2.8 lens with a 1" sensor I am not having buyers remorse. This camera is fantastic! I've seen other reviews about battery life being mediocre. I can say I have not had this problem. I bought another genuine Canon battery to have on hand but so far I haven't had to use it.

I've been using this camera to record YouTube videos, and it works great. Be aware that, as far as I can tell, it seems to have a recording limit of 24 minutes. At least, that's when it has stopped recording suddenly for me. Otherwise, I think the video and audio quality are really good, and this camera is nice and lightweight, making it versatile and good for travel. The flip out screen is nice, too!

This camera is cute and small making it easy to use and move around. The camera itself is pretty easy to navigate, but it was pretty difficult trying to sync it with my computer so I could transfer files over to my computer. Battery life isn't long if you are trying to film 30+ minute videos in one day. Also, it stops recording at the 20-minute mark without any warning, which is inconvenient when I'm trying to film something a little long. But overall it is a nice camera but is probably better suited for pics and short 10-minute videos.

Purchased this camera for vacation travels, but have only used for family gatherings. Easy to use. Smaller than my last Canon, but should make it easy to pack. So far great color indoors and out, easy to charge, photo timer good, download pictures to computer. I didn't want anything fancy with lots of functions, just basic. Like how the screen adjust to various positions.

After a lot of research and consideration looking at all the small, pocket-purse sized cameras available and what they offered, to my own surprise, I ended up choosing the G7XII. I started my search by liking everything about the more expensive G1XIII EXCEPT for that high price I wanted a zoom that went to 100 or more rather than 72, and I especially wanted the faster f/1.8-2.8 lens because I wanted to shoot in some low light interiors in particular during an upcoming vacation. I didn't initially like the G7XII because I wanted a viewfinder and had previously decided I would not buy another compact camera without one, but the G7XII had enough great features I wanted now compared to all the other cameras available that I broke down and got it as I was about to leave on vacation recently. I have mostly been very pleased with this camera, more so than I anticipated. The focus and exposure are almost always spot on for the scene and light I've shot in, which ranged from low light interiors to late day shots, sunsets, and sunny day landscapes. Focus is reasonably fast, although DPAF would be better! In fact, this camera is so good I got lazy and ended up mostly shooting on auto just to make things easy. The G7XII allows you to concentrate on composition instead of fiddling around with various settings. I'm not a big video shooter, but I did a few short videos and the video capability is quite good and enough for my needs. (I don't care at all about 4K video). I played around with digital zoom a couple of times, and it's barely passable if not zoomed out too far, but not good enough to use unless you absolutely have to. I especially like the touch screen functions, and the tilt screen came in very useful a few times so I'm glad to have that. The LCD screen is large, bright and clear. To my surprise, I found I didn't especially miss the viewfinder except in a few overly bright light situations. That said, I'd still rather have a viewfinder (as with the next G5X or G1XIII). The menus are very good and quick to access, also very intuitive. The G7XII is probably heavier than some other small cameras, but it has a beautiful, solid build that I really like. Despite its small size, it feels like a real camera and not a toy. Unlike many small Canon (and other brand) cameras, it has a nice little grip on it so it's not a slippery bar of soap like so many tiny cameras. Overall, I don't regret my purchase although I do hope Canon makes future improvements to this very popular camera or perhaps to the G5X (needs a bigger sensor perhaps, newer processor).

This camera is all that was advertised and described in the tech specs. It is easy to use, is flexible and for a small style of camera it is loaded with features that usually are found on larger DSLR cameras. I am pleased with this purchase. I really like the flip screen and the ability to shoot in Raw format. Good job Canon! The only negative is the price - it is a bit too high - I feel the target price should be in the $400 range.

I actually bought Sony Rx100 V, Panasonic Lumix LX10, and this Canon. I returned the other 2. I found Lumix has more bells and whistles like 4k photo, which I am not sure I need. But I found at least mine had issues with image quality. Poor auto white balance, colors seemed washed out and it overexposed faces on auto and portrait modes. The SONY was the best of the 3 cameras, but I really found the lack of touchscreen a deal breaker for me .(did not think I would but after using it on the others I really liked it. ) also, it is almost double the price. So, the Canon. yes, it lacks 4K video, but the HD video is outstanding. Superb focus and IS. also, the 4 to 1 zoom, and fast 1.8 make for great portrait background defocus, as well as brilliant landscape. (which really is the bottom line I think). I don't miss the viewfinder really. in fact, tilting screens are even more useful I think. Overall, I think this is the best 1 inch at this time. I have aps C size sensor cameras too, the image quality of this camera is truly almost as good, except for very low light. and even then, just throw a mini tripod in, and it is equal. and this fits in the pocket!

This is an AWESOME camera!!! It's a worthy replacement for my old Canon G12 that served me well for many years, although the G7X Mark II is a bit smaller and lighter (which isn't a bad thing), I tried both this and the Canon Powershot G5X, and in the end, I kept the G7X Mark II and returned the G5X. Nothing really wrong with the G5 X, but I felt the G7X was superior for my needs and preferences, particularly low light indoor action shots (basketball). I also think the G7X produces richer tones and colors - more of the Canon "pop" with high saturation that I prefer. These differences were very subtle, but those were the deciding factors for me personally. Both cameras are great though, and it really just comes down to preference. If you prefer an actual viewfinder, then the G5X is the camera for you... I will also add that Best Buy handled the refund / exchange for me flawlessly, with a smile! Great service - thank you! Also, as a side note - this camera works for my needs for low light indoor action shots (my son's basketball games), BUT any compact camera like this has limited focusing capabilities in such a setting - you won't get the same results as a true DSLR in that type situation. However, you also don't have all the heavy bulk to haul around! In most other cases (outdoor action shots and portrait photography), this camera will rival even a true DSLR in quality - it's an awesome travel camera for even a pro!!! I've had it for 2 months now and LOVE IT!!!!

The viral TikTok/IG camera! I can't believe I got it normally priced from the app since it's always sold out. Worth the hype, I hope to keep using this for a long time! It's just great for my rotation of cameras as a night-time flash or sunset camera. You can definitely achieve similar with older point and shoots but this is the latter - clearer quality, soft, warm flash look. Glad Best Buy had it or I probably wouldn't have bought it :)

After doing a ton of research I bought this camera for a trip to Amsterdam and Croatia. I was looking for a high quality camera that could still fit in my pocket (cell phone photos are good but I wanted to make sure I could take great photos to capture the Adriatic Sea, et al.) Long story short, my buddy was shooting a music video in Amsterdam and his photographer, with their gigantic DLSR was amazed at the quality of photos I was able to take with my camera. They even used this to film part of the video in the club :)))) If you want to have a camera that is easily portable, but takes INCREDIBLE photos...look no further. This is one of the best purchases I've ever made.
