Great lens to upgrade to after getting used to your kit lens. This lens is great for portrait photography and the aperture allows for lots of light to enter the sensor of your camera. Can’t recent to those looking for a cheap upgrade from their kit lens. Just keep in mind if you have a crop sensor camera to multiply the focal length by 1.6 which makes this approximately a 80mm lens.

I love it when using it at Black Mountain, NC and NC Zoo. Most photos came out great. They are crisp and sharp. 50 mm lens challenged me to take photos. I could take three or four photos at the same setting and put them in panorama in Lightroom. I learned much on how to use 50 mm lens. For me, it is worth it.

Canon keeps putting out these great inexpensive "nifty fifty" lens and they are hard to beat. The RF version is no different. I've owned (and currently still do) about all of these 1.8 50mm and they simply just get the job done. Image quality is great. Build quality on the RF is better than the EF but still not "L" quality in regards to anything. But the RF 1.2 is EXPENSIVE!
