it started as really good mini-games in Super mario 3D world, and it's even better as a stand alone game. the gameplay is very unique.

Captain Toad is quite different from any other Mario related game I have played. Instead of running and jumping your way through large levels you have to think your way through maze like mini levels. Captain Toad is wearing a very heavy pack and cannot jump which changes the gameplay quite a bit. In each level there is a power star and 3 gems to collect. They are either blocked by obstacles or hidden from sight and you have to manipulate the camera and the environment to find them. Each level also has hidden optional objectives and later on a time trial mode. There are well over 70 levels with a ton of variety in types of stages. The presentation of the game is very well done. The graphics almost feel like you are playing a Pixar movie and the music is amazing. I heavily recommend this game to any Wii U owner even if you aren't a Mario fan as the gameplay is quite different.

Similar to the mini-games with Toad in Super Mario 3D World, Captain Toad takes that basic concept and adds to it with deeper challenge, a narrative wrapping, and more. If you're a fan of Nintendo and enjoy a good puzzle game, this is a game you'll enjoy.
