The telescope has some positive sides, but all in all felt like a hobby killer as the adjusters were frustratingly springy, and the base was unsteady. I changed gears and got an 8 inch dobsonian instead and have been much happier

Purchased as a Christmas gift for the hubby.. He’s still figuring it out but it seems to be decent for the price. Still figuring out the phone app. Good product for the money.

    Moon telescope not for planets

The packaging greatly exaggerated this telescope's capabilities. Great for viewing the moon with great detail, but the planets look like tiny dots even with the 2X barlow and the 10mm lens. No detail at all while viewing Mars. After focusing several times Mars looks like a fuzzy red pin of light. Originally had a $75 70mm travel refractor telescope and thought this would be a decent upgrade...it was not. Basically the same outcome when viewing planets. Save your money for a better telescope, unless all you really want to see is the moon. I'd say the best feature is the tripod. I'm 6ft so it was nice not having to slouch over to reach the eyepiece.

The Celetron Starsense Explorer was easy to set up, which was great since our 9 year old is the one mostly using it. Although it was overcast the first night we used it, we were still able to see the stars of Orion! We look forward to clearer skies, since the free app showed us the potential systems that we might see!

We wanted a great beginner telescope to learn with. This was our choice. Celestron is not complicated and is a good overall design. We got it for Christmas and have seen terrific views including the conjunction in the sky! We really like this telescope and the way it navigates the night sky with a cell phone. Recommended!
