That’s where the good news ends: even being within 25 feet of a router it does not connect most times and when it does it takes a long time to connect and then the live feed is a few seconds behind real time. Unfortunately, I took too long to use it and so was outside the return window. Best stick with other brands.

The WiFi uses way too much power and thus the battery stays charged for less than one week. You then have to removed the keypad from the mount, recharge the battery, and reinstall. Way too much hassle!

Battery Powered and Links to a Single Door
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been using LiftMaster (a Chamberlain brand) garage door openers since I moved into my house so I’m familiar with the MyQ app as I use it to open and close my garage doors every single day. I also have “dumb” keypads mounted near my doors that allow me to open the door with a 4-pin code and close it with a single button. This video keypad brings some smart capability to the keypad experience but also comes with some serious drawbacks: First of all, it is battery operated and comes with a proprietary battery that can only be charged via a micro USB port on the battery itself. When the keypad is mounted, you need to remove a little screw to remove the battery pack. Depending on how often it catches a motion event the battery may need to be charged every 1-3 months. This is the biggest issue with the device in my opinion. I’m sure there are plenty of people who don’t mind this extra task of charging a battery every so often, but I would have appreciated a USB-C port on the keypad itself that allowed me to wire the device into power to keep the battery charged and most importantly forget about it. Next, the keypad can only be linked to one garage door opener. As someone who has two openers, this poses a bit of a problem. I either must purchase an extra video keypad or live with only 1 that is “smart”. Both of my openers are connected to Wi-Fi, just like the video keypad is. I can open either with the MyQ app. Therefore, there is no technical reason why the keypad can’t control more than 1 door, especially if the keypad supports up to 16 codes to open a single door. Finally, unlike some other motion sensing cameras on the market that support local storage you will need to subscribe to MyQ’s video monitoring service to see any recorded motion events at all. There’s not even an option to see today’s events without a subscription. The only thing you can do without a subscription is use the keypad or view the camera in real-time. In addition, I found that more times than not there were significant issues with the two-way audio that made it unusable. While the video was responsive, the audio would lag the video sometimes as much as 10 seconds, making a conversation with anybody on the other end impossible. Drawbacks aside, the keypad does work as advertised and can open and close the linked door. The keypad codes are easily setup via the MyQ app and this is where you can see the live-view and recorded motion history. The camera and audio quality are good but not good enough to read the license plate of a car traveling down the street at speed. The motion sensing feature works well, and the sensitivity can be controlled within the app. However, there is not a way to “fine-tune” the motion sensing by creating activity zones like I’ve seen on other home security cameras that would allow you to ignore areas such as the street or neighbor’s driveway. More control over when the motion detector activates could yield better battery life. Notifications can be controlled as you can enable them only for certain days and times. It connects to Wi-Fi so you could technically install it anywhere there’s a solid signal but most folks will probably place it on the side of their garage where an installer would typically place a keypad. This gets you a view that is half garage door and half driveway and/or street. Luckily a reversible angled mount is included in the kit that’ll get you a better angle so you can see outward more. The kit itself is easy to install. Pros: - Easy Setup - Works over Wifi - Can see who is accessing your garage - Opens/Closes Garage Door - One-touch close button - Good Picture Quality - Includes angled mount - Can create guest pin codes Cons: - No Hard-wire Options for Power - Cannot control more than 1 door - 2-way Audio Lag - Micro-USB Charging - Must Subscribe to Access Recordings Overall – the lack of a solar or hardwired power option adds the chore of charging a battery every month. The inexplicable inability to control more than one door and lack of local storage makes it harder to recommend despite the good picture quality and extra security that a keypad camera at your garage door can provide.

(1) The antenna has very short range. My garage door opener is less than 6 feet away and it cannot receive the signal unless I am 5 or less. I tried extender my antenna manually and that still did not resolve the issue. Customer support was not helpful. (2) The battery is awfully hard to remove. It lasts maybe 10-14 days, which is fine, but when it is difficult to remove it makes it a painful chore to replace. In addition, it takes 4-6+ hours to charge. (3) You need a subscription to use most of the features.

In regards to the range issue ensure there are no LED light bulbs installed inside the garage door opener. If there are two openers installed in your garage and only one opener is having an issue, the problem could be the working opener. This is known as crosstalk. To resolve the issue:
Unplug the opener which is NOT having a range issue.
Test the remote control, did the range on the remote control improve?
Yes, replace the logic board on the opener that you unplugged

Motion Notification Now Requires Subscription Plan

Recently (October 1), I quit receiving motion notifications, and finally got to reaching out to Chamberlain Support.
