Posted .Hello Don, thank you for sharing your review with us. We are sorry to hear that your experience with the video keypad was less than satisfactory. To maximize the battery life of your myQ Video Keypad, we recommend setting your motion sensitivity meter to either the low, or lowest setting. This will ensure your keypad is only capturing events immediate to your garage door proximity. At this time, the Video keypad can only control one residential Garage door opener. Should you need technical support or have questions, please email social@chamberlain.com. We are happy to help.

Rething your choice
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Chamberlain is an awful company. I need internet access for my keypad to work. Because I have family members that use the keypad, I am stuck keeping the keypad which works at best 30% of the time. Within the last few months the changes they (Chamberlain) have made as it relates to how I can open and close my garage door opener, which I own, are simply ridiculous. My only real options are to comply with this evil corporation, or completely replace my opener.

Very Nice Garage Keypad With Camera
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Chamberlain MyQ Smart Garage Video Keypad is a good device but falls just short of being excellent. First, installation is a breeze. I have installed standard garage door openers before, and they were something of a pain to set up. The MyQ app walks you through installation, which greatly simplies setup. You don't have to enter PIN numbers to set a code. After selecting the proper color for the learn button on your garage door opener, you just enter the code on the keypad and press the home button for up to five seconds. Your garage light should flicker to let you know it paired, but then the app instructs you to enter your code to ensure it works. Sure enough, it worked on the first try. Mounting it is not particularly difficult. It comes with a mount that angles slightly out, so the camera gives you a better view of your driveway than of your garage door, which is useful. The unit is battery operated. While this is good in that you don't need to worry about wires, the battery is a pain to access and runs down much faster than the batteries in traditional door openers. On top of that, the battery takes hours for each charge and uses an old-style micro-USB cable. It's hard to understand why MyQ used this older, slower charging technology for something you don't really want to be out of commission for an extended period of time. You can buy a spare battery, but this is still a miss for an otherwise great product. Of note, it also can only control one garage door. That happens to work for me b/c I already had two separate garage door controllers, so I just used this to replace the older one. But you should be aware in case you are trying to control two doors with it. So my suggestions would be: 1. Easier battery access; 2. Faster charging connection; and 3. Control multiple doors. Still, though, this is an innovated device and it is useful. Since I can access it via the MyQ app, I can open or close the garage door from anywhere. Plus, the camera feature could be handy in some situations. Overall, I like it a lot. I just wish they had thought through those three issues I mentioned a little more.

Good features, but yet another subscription fee
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installation and setup are straightforward. Feels like a quality item. It has a very responsive keypad, not like the usual mushy keys on the basic keypad garage doors usually come with. Might be worth it just for this. You can have a conversation with someone on the keypad as you would with a video doorbell. The app is laid out logically and works well. The recorded picture is HD quality and looks good. A great feature is PIN Management. You can create multiple unique PINs with 4-8 numbers, set restrictions on them, make a temporary PIIN good for just a short period of time. Battery life is fair. I have the sensitivity set low as I am on a somewhat busy street and after three weeks it’s more than half gone. It’s now November and the cold weather is just starting to arrive, so I expect the battery to die even sooner. I replaced my battery powered video doorbell with one powered by the hardwired doorbell I had as that battery did not last either. Considering the power needs of Wi-Fi, possibly with a weak signal transferring live video, an option to connect a solar panel or external power would be useful. I could run a USB cable into the back of this easy enough. Most garages I’ve seen are not finished, so drilling a hole behind the doorbell to run a USB or other low power wire is usually easy. Like most things, this follows the low-cost razor model to get you hooked on buying razor blades. You’ll need to pony up for a monthly subscription fee for video storage and to use some of the other features of this product. All these little subscriptions are like a death by a thousand cuts. They add up. Some built-in memory or an SD card slot should have been included. I feel this is worth it for the decent keypad, PIN management feature, and intercom. But if a camera at your garage door is your primary need, there are plenty of cameras with storage capability that do not require a subscription with much longer battery life that also have options to use a solar panel or plug in to an outlet.

Posted .Hello. We apologize for any inconvenience.
I can suggest setting your Motion Sensitivity Meter to either the low, or lowest setting. This will ensure your keypad is only capturing events immediate to your garage door proximity.
Wi-Fi signal strength also plays a significant factor in the battery life performance of your device. You can view your Wi-Fi network strength in the myQ app under the Video Keypad Device Management Settings section.

A few flaws, but an average/ok option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Oh where to begin... I thought about giving this 2 stars, but bumped it up to three after thinking about it. First, I have a legacy first generation MyQ garage opener. I have been customer, and LOVED this product for almost 10+ years now. Smart Garage door opener has honestly been used more often then I ever imagined. My version, is the kind that the MyQ aspect is in a separate unit, that connects to my network via wire, and sits away from the opener... That ultimately led to some problems installing this. This MyQ garage opener, is not directly compatible, despite having a garage door opener in MyQ app. This led to a few emails and ultimately a call to customer service, just to find out I had to set this up as a non-MyQ garage door opener, and use the radio method (just like a door clicker). So I don't get a few of the linked benefits, so not entire sure what I am missing, but this still works. So getting passed that (which ultimately took just a few minutes to setup), on to the unit it self. This is battery powered, with NO option to keep it connected to power full time. There is no external power connector, you have to pull it from the wall, take the battery out, and let the battery charge which can take 10+ hours per documentation (For us it has taken several hours, but we have just bee leaving it overnight). This is VERY disappointing, that there is absolutely no way to get a permanent power supply to a camera based device. I have concerns of remembering to charge, and then what to have as an opener while charging. I have moved my original keypad to the side door of the garage, just to make sure I always have a keypad available. Also with that, I need to keep the security tool near by or easily accessible so I can loosen the screw, so I can take the unit off the wall... as the battery is in the back. And it isn't a standard battery pack. I am considering purchasing a backup battery pack, so I can just swap out. Video... The video is pretty clear, and the audio is good... it does a fairly good job capturing the view. But as a garage keypad, some of the view is blocked by the garage door when closed... that is just physics and understood.. the routing plate does help reduce that. I DO like that kept the ability to just hit the garage button without entering the keypad code, to close the door. (thank you). Also while I haven't used it yet, the software seems to allow multiple pins... so you can assign a different pin to different people and know who opened the garage door. The video plan seems fair. I now have two of their devices, and it is only $100 for the full year, and you can get a discount your first signup year. So to recap... 1 full star dropped because it wasn't directly compatible with my early MyQ product, despite that MyQ opener being right in my app, and the challenge to find out that it wasn't. 1 full star dropped because the lack of full time power supply option. And really another .5 star dropped, because of the custom battery pack and the time it takes to charge it, and the process to go through to take it in and out.

Easy garage access and peace of mind
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.PROS - Easy installation and setup - Clear high-quality video - Accurate people detection with subscription CONS - Audio quality is average - Video stream sometimes didn’t load - Based on current trend, battery life could be better Summary: An easy way to upgrade your basic keypad to modern hardware with video smarts that are great for keeping track of visitors and home deliveries. I didn’t have any keypad on the outside of my garage, so I was excited when I saw the myQ video keypad. Right after moving into my home I added myQ capability to my garage, but I had encountered several times where I ended up outside without my phone and no way to open the garage but to walk back around my house – no longer! The keypad connects over Wi-Fi, so you need to make sure you have good coverage in that area. After unboxing the unit and charging the battery I proceed through the initial setup and firmware update. The unit comes with a 20 degree angle mount to provide the optimal position for capturing video of the entire garage as well as a good view out toward the street. There are other mounting options available for purchase if the included unit doesn’t suit your desired mounting location. During the setup you can set a 4-8 digit pin that you can use to open the door. You can also program guest pins on a temporary basis with a start and end date as well as specifying reoccurring access on specific days of the week and times. This also helps you keep a log of which pins were used when – in addition to the video alerts. Pushing the button with the garage icon will close the door if it’s open and pressing the call button will send a push notification to the app that will open the video so that you can engage in a two-way conversation. The keypad is illuminated, which is convenient for when you need to use the keypad at night. Overall, the 1080p video quality was good, though sometimes I would need to wait for a moment to get the stream to come up or it would get stuck and I would need to restart the app. This may be a product of my wifi, but the app reports that connectivity is good. The video at night with the filter and IR led was also clear and I could easily make out facial features for identifying people. The live video streaming was mostly real time though I did experience some stuttering from time to time. The audio coming through the keypad could be higher quality, but I could understand the words coming through the unit, so it’s definitely usable to communicate with somebody. While you don’t have to have a subscription, adding it gets you some great features for security minded individuals. You can get either 7 or 30 days of storage which also includes features like intelligent detection of people which in my experience worked really well. Without a subscription you get event recordings of when the garage opens and closes, as well as the 2 way talk features. I haven’t been able to evaluate how long the battery lasts, but I’ve had it setup for about 3 days and I’m at 93%, so assuming a that trend continues I’m expecting around 43 days. I wish that it would last longer – but obviously your mileage will vary based on events and usage. You can buy replacement batteries, so I suppose you could have spare charged and ready. Since this unit is outside, it would be nice to see a future model with a wired solar panel to keep it topped off.

Nice features but most need subscription to use
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pro: -Should work with most Chamberlain/Liftmaster garage from the last 10 years -Battery life -Scheduled guess pin Con: -Most features locked behind subscription -Pricey subscription for one device For what it is, the video keypad works great, giving another layer of security and access. It was easy to pair with my older garage opener, simply by programming a code and pressing the button to teach the code to the opener. Setting up through the MyQ app was easy and straightforward, and was done in minutes. The keypad comes in an angled bracket, and mounting it was easy, but you will need a drill and screwdriver. The video is clear and it does a good job of detecting motion and people. The motion detection doesn’t go too far so it didn’t get many false alerts from cars driving by the street. The alerts sometimes are delayed for a bit, maybe about 30 seconds. Guess pins can be set within a specific time frame, allowing temporary access. The battery seems to last a while. I had it for a week with a lot of movement detections and it’s still at 97%. The bad thing is that all the features are locked behind a subscription. Without the subscription plan, the camera is basically only good for live viewing when someone is at the keypad. There’s no video storage, motion detection, nor person detection. There are two subscription plans, a single device plan for $4 a month ($40 a year) and a multi device plan for $10 a month ($100 a year). The single device plan, for what it offers compared to other camera subscriptions, is higher than it should be. The single device plan only saves video for 7 days. Any other cameras I have owned either have a free 48 hours storage or at least will save the video for 30 days. If this is the only device being used, then the value is less compared to other cameras. The multiple device plan fares better, allowing video to be saved for 30 days. Overall I like the extra security it offers, and the ability to allow access set to a specific time. However, I don’t like that most of the features are locked behind a paywall, and one that offers less than other cameras.

Great camera-Needs more power and storage options!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This keypad is highly robust in its build quality and performs how I would expect for a smart garage video keypad. I am really happy about the wide angle, HD view of the camera and how high the build quality of this device is. The first time you click the keypad buttons, you are bound to be impressed as I was as to how rock solid it feels. Setup via the myQ app was easy as could be and I really appreciated the checklists and walk through step by step for getting this connected to my garage door opener! There are a couple areas of improvement that this could use, though. I really don't like how Chamberlain is essentially twisting your arm through storage impoverishment to sign up for and maintain a subscription with them in order to have cloud storage for your video recordings. I would have far preferred an option to have physical, local storage such as on a microSD card in order to ensure that I have access to recordings in the event of a power or internet outage. Another aspect that I feel needs improvement in 2023 is the battery and power options for this device. I am not pleased that you have to detach and dig all the way into the rear of the video keypad to get access to charge the battery and that unless you have a second charged battery ready to go, the keypad is left out of commission for the duration of the time the battery is being charged, which is a looooonnnggg time. Other reviewers haven't exaggerated this. I got the video keypad in the mail and pulled out the battery to charge it around 4pm with wall adapter/microUSB hookup of appropriate amps and watts, and I was utterly astonished when it was still not charged by 10pm! To keep current with the increasingly autonomous and low maintenance camera systems and electronics out there I would have loved some sort of solar solution or external plug in option to at least allow the camera to stay operational while being charged. I am a bit of a pessimist when it comes to home security and my gut says that the day those neighborhood kids would egg my garage would be when this camera is out of commission while its battery is taking 8 hours to be charged from empty. Overall, these are just my takes and hopefully Chamberlain will come forward with some options to make this keypad a little more consumer friendly on the storage and battery fronts. Thanks for reading!
