Basically a load buzzing machine that can't really help with finding radar guns in front of it. We took this thing on a long road trip and basically found it to be worthless. Police would be right in front of us with their radar guns pointing at us and this thing would give us a warning when we were about 10 feet away. Worthless.

If they are aiming a handheld device at you, this is laser. Laser uses a narrow laser beam which can only be detected by any detector when it is aimed at or near you. Using the iRadar app with Road Scout for its crowd sourced alerts from other drivers can help against laser traps.

The device kept loosing connection to my phone so some of the features would not work unless I unpaired / paired constantly. Tried calling support but there was never anyone available so I just returned it. Great idea as a combo unit but poor execution

We're sorry that you had a poor experience with Road Scout. Make sure you use the iRadar app to connect to Road Scout. It sounds like you are getting music on your phone over Wi-Fi. Road Scout's dash camera connects to your phone using a Wi-Fi connection so any other Wi-Fi connection your phone is using will be disconnected when you connect the dash camera. Note that a Wi-Fi connection to the camera is only necessary to view/edit videos. The camera Wi-Fi connection is not necessary for normal day-to-day operation of Road Scout.

There are lots of things that make this Cobra radar detector a fantastic package. The main things for me are the inclusion of a dashcam and the sensitivity function. When you are shopping around for a radar detector of this price range, you have lots of options. You have to look at what separates each product to help make your decision. For me, the incredible accuracy and dashcam are the things that make this product worth its asking price.
Let’s start with accuracy. If this is your first radar detector purchase, let me tell you, accuracy is the MOST important function. At the end of the day, you are buying an electronic that detects police radars. Therefore, make sure you buy one that is able to do this at a high level. This one does. I have actually tested this by going to my local highway and drove for about 30 miles until I got a reading. I got the scanner alert well before the police officers radar had time to pick up my speed (which was the speed limit anyways; this was for the testing of this review). I was incredibly impressed with the range of this radar. However, here’s something you have to understand about radar detectors. They are detecting three different radar wavelengths: X, K, Ka. They rank from least likely to be a speed trap to most likely in that order. Here’s the reality, X is ALMOST never a speed trap. X hasn’t been used for decades except by the least well-equipped police departments in the USA. It’s an old technology which can be triggered by many things like supermarkets and malls. The real ones you need to keep an eye out for are K & Ka. They are still in mass use, with Ka being almost exclusively for speed trapping. The problem is you buy a radar detecting, and it has no settings for adjusting sensitivity to these wavelengths. You don’t want a radar going off each time you pass a supermarket. Instead, you want to be able to customize your radar to go off for strong K and Ka signals. That’s what this radar does. It makes it more streamlined and functional for doing its job.
The other things that make this radar detector great are the user interface and the addition of a dashcam. We should really all have a dashcam in our cars. If you get into a car accident and it wasn’t your fault, you might need to prove it to your insurance company. Dashcams can help this happen. It's funny because dashcams and radar detectors are really unrelated, yet both are incredibly helpful. This radar gives you both of those. On top of that, it does it in a sleek user interface. It has a nice display and quality feeling buttons. You will get a nice feeling product for the price you are paying.
I recommend this product to anyone who is looking to kill two birds with one stone. If you were already looking for a top of the line radar detector, this one gives you bonus points in other areas that might make it more worth it. Take a look at this radar detector; it might be what you were looking for.

The Cobra Road Scout Radar Detector and Dash Camera came well packaged. It is smaller than expected, which is a good thing. The instruction booklet was easy to follow when doing the initial set up. The BILT app can be used for those who prefer spoken instructions. Set up involved downloading an app for the radar and another for the dash camera and pairing them to a phone.
To understand what the Road Scout can do and to customize the factory settings, it’s very important to go to the website and read the manual. I would've been nice to have a printed copy in the box to refer to when doing the customizations and to understand what the lights and symbols mean. There are ways to eliminate consistent false alerts caused by storefront automatic door openers and motion detectors. There is a microphone that can be turned off and on and voice and light cues that can be customized. The radar detector picks up X, K, Ka and laser signals and displays the strength (how close). If you want to know when you exceed the speed limit, the device can be set to announce “over speed”.
The dash camera image can be viewed on the paired phone in real time when in range of the Road Scout wi-fi. The recordings don’t seem to use much of my phone storage but do need to be deleted periodically. Viewing/deleting the videos can only be done when in range of the Road Scout wi-fi. The video is also captured on a 16GB MicroSD card and can be downloaded to a PC. The recordings are made using a continuous 1, 3 or 5-minute loop. Loop time is set in the Drive HD app. When the built in G-sensor collision detector is activated, Road Scout locks the recording to protect the files. If a vehicle is prone to small harmless bumps, the G-sensor can be set to 3 so that the MicroSD card doesn’t fill up too quickly.
Instead of permanently installing it on the windshield, I made a platform that sits on the dash. That way it doesn't interfere with the view and can be transferred to any of our vehicles. The two improvements in my opinion would be a printed manual and a removable dash mount instead of a windshield mount. I haven’t seen any police with radar or gone through any traffic cameras since installing the unit but am confident that it will perform as advertised.

Try adding a Bluetooth Connection Delay. To do this, with Road Scout powered on and connected to the iRadar app, in iRadar go to the Settings menu then select Bluetooth Settings. Start with 5 seconds and see if it helps. If not, increase the delay.

My first thought about this radar detector and dash cam was that it’s 2 for 1. I liked the idea of having an included dash cam. First the radar detector, tracks your speed. I have used for over a week and have yet to have it notify me of a laser gun, I have passed and seen a few cops posted up on the road so either it’s not picking up or the cops weren’t trying to catch anyone speeding. I feel like it’s a good tool to have in your car as a just in case. For the dash cam I would have liked there to have been a screen that shows you what’s being recorded at the moment like a normal dash cam, not having to pull up the video afterwards. It was simple to install. Next version should have the dash cam screen visible and look more like a dash cam than a radar detector.

Road Scout should give you plenty of radar detection range. It is possible they were using instant-on radar and targeting specific vehicles. For maximum radar detection range, be sure the sensitivity is set to High using the SEN button. If you continue to notice poor detection range then there may be a problem with your Road Scout. Great All-in-one Package

The Cobra Road Scout is a nice all-in-one package with a great Radar detector and high quality dash cam all in small form factor.
In the box:
In the box you get the main Road Scout unit, a 12v car power adapter, a windshield mount, a nice soft shell case, a micro sd for video recording, and a usb cable to download video.
Mounting:
I really like the mount that comes with the road scout. It is a reusable sticky suction cup, rather than a 3M adhesive. It feels really sturdy, but could be moved to another vehicle if I needed. The 12v adapter is nice that is will connect straight to the unit, but also provides a usb port so you can plug another device in too.
Radar:
The radar seems to work great. It has a very loud and audible alarm when it detects a radar gun. It hasn't let me down yet. There is a nice big circle lcd screen that shows you the type of radar and the strength. There is also a button to mark spots where you know there are speed detectors and things like that..
App:
There is also the iRadar app which has improved drastically. It works a lot like Waze where people can mark speed traps or red light cameras. Connecting to the app also adds a benefit of real time speed limit notifications on the Road Scout LCD screen, though I've had mixed results on this showing the right speed limit..
Camera:
This is a set it and leave it kind of thing. It records while you have it plugged in and can be downloaded if you ever need it. The quality in both day and night is pretty good. I wish you could view video live, but, this works just fine.
Overall, this is a very high quality dash cam radar detector combo. IT really does cover all your bases and is a definite go to if you're looking for something like this.

We're sorry to hear that you are not happy with Road Scout. To reduce the amount of false alerts, press the SEN button to adjust the X and K band radar detection sensitivity/range. Auto = speed adjusted. The slower you travel, the shorter the X and K band detection range. At 50 mph and above, X and K detection range is at maximum. Ka band detection range is always at maximum, regardless of the SEN setting.

I have been using the Cobra - Elite Series Road Scout 2-In-1 Radar Detector and Dash Camera Driver Alert System for about 1 week now and so far, I am very impressed. Nowadays, it is important to have a dashcam and having one that also acts as a radar detector is even better.
One thing to note with regards to this particular radar detector / dashcam is that you will need two separate apps on your phone to fully take advantage of everything it has to offer. Although the dashcam and radar detection work at the same time, you will need to download and use the Drive HD app to access your recorded videos but if you want to take full advantage of the radar detection features, you will need to download and use the iRadar app.
I really like the iRadar app. When open, it looks like a typical GPS app but it includes real-time alerts and visual cues for things like red light cameras and speed cameras which are passed on to the Road Scout. The radar detection in general seems to work as it should. I haven’t come across any law enforcement who were clearly using radar or laser detection in my limited use so far but there is a speed notification sign right by my home and the radar detector picks it up and properly warns me every single time so it clearly works.
In summary, the Cobra - Elite Series Road Scout 2-In-1 Radar Detector and Dash Camera Driver Alert System is a great radar detector and dashcam and I highly recommend it!
