Posted .We are sorry to hear that you are not happy with RAD 480i. Please note that City and Highway sensitivity modes were renamed to Low, Medium and High. To cycle through them repeatedly press the SEN button. I recommend trying Medium SEN mode. I hope this information helps!

It will either pick it up too late or mullple false alerts even on low setting.

Posted .The detector will only alert when they are transmitting radar or laser. Be sure you are using High SEN mode for maximum detection range. To reduce false alerts, use Medium or Low SEN modes. When using the iRadar app with RAD 480i, use Auto SEN mode which automatically changes the SEN mode based on your speed. It told me there was a cop as I drove past him on the side of the road. My previous radar detector gave me a heads up at least half mile.

Posted .They can selectively target vehicles. In this case you will not receive an alert until you, or a vehicle close to you, is targeted. This would be the case for any detector.

Not worth your money

We used it, as well as Waze, during a trip. At one point, we passed three patrol cars and did not receive one notification from the radar. Unfortunately, we returned the item.

Posted .Be aware that police do not always transmit radar or laser, Radar and laser alerts only happen when they are transmitting. You can use the iRadar app with RAD 480i to receive crowd sourced alerts like Waze has. When using the iRadar app with RAD 480i you will also receive speed limits, ability to lock out fixed location false alerts, and redlight and speed camera alerts. The app on your phone connects wirelessly to RAD480i using bluetooth.

Posted .RAD 480i will operate without using the iRadar app or creating an iRadar account. The iRadar app provides camera and crowd sourced alerts plus speed limits. RAD 480i will alert to radar and laser without using the iRadar app.

Posted .Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear you were not completely satisfied. Unfortunately, due to the nature of laser and how it works, it is possible to spot an active laser gun without getting an alert from your radar detector. At capture range, which is roughly 1200 feet, the laser beam is quite narrow, about the size of a basketball or small pizza box. The officer will aim for the grill area of your car, as it's the most reflective surface. For this reason, it's possible for him to target the grill area of the car without the laser beam reaching the sensor on the detector up in the cabin of the car. Your best bet for getting a laser alert in advance is when the officer targets someone driving up ahead of you. You will have an opportunity to detect reflected laser from that encounter and adjust your speed. For the best performance with laser detection, mount your detector low on the windshield.
