the best cam I've owned yet.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the cam is great. both front and rearunits provide excellent picture quality with great color and detail. Zooming in causes a lot of pixelation though and you can transfer that to how well it operates in low light which is acceptable but not awesome. I'm ok with that. The main drawbacks for me are no sound off sound on voice commands and the biggest thing I would change is to offer swivel mounts so tha the orward facing camers can be turned 360. this would be helpful in recording police encounters. Again, Overall It's a great system. The icobra app doesn't always shut down properly but its also acceptable, I'm giving it 5 stars because it's well built, easy to use, handles direct sunlight quite well, although I would disconnect it if it gets too hot outside when not in use, just for fun. Ive had other windshield mounts cameras and the attachment method was usually sub standard and I would come back to my car only to find the cam on the floor. Not with this unit. once the mount is in place its in for life, I like the magnetic docking too. Also, Cobra doesn't promise anything it doesn't deliver. I would suggest having it profesionally installed because there is a lot of wire to hide! I highly recommend this dash camera.

Hard pass
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When you buy a piece of premium technology, you expect it to make your life easy. Unfortunately, this is not one of them. It's not the first time I have used dashcam in my car but this made me so frustrated I am left wondering it it was even worth it. First the positives: - Decent packing with no fluff - The 2 set of cables/adapter for front/back cam are good quality and sufficiently long even for use in a minivan - 2x extra adhesive pads if you goof up the first time - Cameras have fair to decent build quality - Magnetic mount makes it easy to install/remove front camera Now the laundry list of negatives: - Poor display: Display quality is extremely poor and starts hurting eyes after just a few mins of use. LED lights are too intense and there is no diffuser over them. Really painful to look towards them. Thankfully, most of the time after config, they will be hidden. - No brightness control for the screen - Clunky navigation/menus, etc: The way you move around to configure settings is clunky. Bottom buttons to move around the menu are hard to press. Font doesn't look aliased. - Display doesn't turn off while driving: I expect my dashcam's screen to turn off after sometime to save power and generate less heat. Unfortunately, it didn't work for this camera even though the manual says it's possible. Parking mode and motion Detection were enabled that might be the reason why but regardless, I expect this basic feature to work in even most basic dash cam. I hoped firmware update would resolve it but I wasn't able to update it (details below). - Included 16GB microSD card seems to be a joke: Just the front cam at highest setting uses about 300MB per minute. Which means you will be able to record around 50 mins before the camera would start rewriting old videos. With both cams enabled, it would be even less. Expect to buy atleast a 64GB to keep any worthwhile recordings for emergency. - Extremely poor app: Connecting the camera to the Drive Smarter app was a pain. You have to first register. The main reason I did that was to see if there are any firmware updates available. Unfortunately, the manual doesn't specify any manual way of updating firmware using microSD card. In any case, even after about 30 mins of trying, firmware update didn't happen because app wasn't able to connect to dashcam's WiFi hotspot (screenshot attached). - And here's the cherry on the cake directly from app's privacy policy: We use Personal Information collected from you to manage your user account. In addition, we may share the information we collect on the web site with third parties, who may use the information for their own marketing purposes. I think this is simply unacceptable. Even after buying a premium product, you realize that your information is being sold to third parties! To be fair, I compared their privacy policy with some other premium dash cam manufacturers and didn't find such a clause there. Overall, I am disappointed and won't recommend anyone to buy this half baked gadget.

Posted .Hi, thank you for trying the SC200D camera. We are sorry you are having issues.
Our camera comes with a screensaver which you can enable using the camera's setting menu. The screen saver will automatically turn off the display and can help with your issue. You can also use voice-commands to turn your display (please see list of available voice commands in our detailed user manual).
In terms of memory, the included 16GB SD card is constantly overwriting old recordings to make space for new ones so you never run out of space. If there is a recording which you wish to lock, simply press the "Emergency Record" button on your camera to protect it from being overwritten.
We also hope you will give the Drive Smarter app another try, since we are releasing updates to Android and iOS with bug-fixes which can help with the issues you are seeing.
Please reach out to our technical support team or visit the support pages on the Cobra and Drive Smarter websites for additional troubleshooting steps.
Thanks!

Good Cam missing one feature
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This dash cam is about a 4 out of 5. Its missing features that I would say is needed for 5 stars Installation is the same for all dash cam. It took me about 30 to 40 mins to run the wires in my van (head board and top lining). This setup didn’t come with a tool to my separate the panels. But im glad I save the plastic tools from my other dash cam. Comes with a 16GB memory card. Its enough to start out but I am going to upgrade to 128GB. Video and images are pretty clear during the day but grainy at night (see example). My other car’s dash cam has a feature were the dash cam can record if the car was parked and was hit or shaken. It would record front and back. It’s a very valuable feature if you parked your car outside. If your just looking for a front and back dash cam this would be a good choice. It does the job.

Happy customer - buy one!
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Completely satisfied AND happy with purchasing this unit. Main unit slips into its mount and secures magnetically, easy to attache and remove. Comes with a rear (or interior, your choice) second camera, and cabling was long enough to reach the rear of my vehicle while still being tucked out of the way. Set-up and operation are simple. Picture quality is excellent in a range of lighting situations. Menu is mostly self-explanatory (I didn't look up any user guide and figured it out within minutes.) Check the regulations on any states you plan to use this in, as some do not allow anything mounted to windows or blocking the driver view in any degree.

It's good, not great.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While the camera itself is easy to use in function, you just plug it in and it starts recording, the way to get video off the camera is convoluted when using the applications, and incredibly hit or miss with the connection from the app to the camera. If you have wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, forget about using either and pulling information from app/camera as the access point/connection method over Wi-Fi is the same for both, and they'll switch between one another essentially rendering the app itself useless, where it's already spotty. The camera itself doesn't have built it energy storage so you'll need an active power source for it or hardwire it to the vehicle power source to use parking/surveillance mode. If you intend to use the camera without the app functionally, by all means would recommend. It is crisp and outputs good video(mind you, it's still difficult to make out license plates in motion, unless you're matching their speed) and you can easily pull the memory card to manually extract the video files on your computer/Cell(with an adapter). For all intents and purposes, if you just want to capture impact and have a more solid case against being at fault, it'll work.

Nice little dash cam
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great Camera, easy to install, with awesome video quality. The video quality is clear enough to see license plate numbers and the audio is nice and clear. The only problem I have with it, is the app that you can view the clips on is not very user friendly and doesn't always connect. You can still plug it into the computer to get them though. Overall I would buy again.

Nice cameras, but poor software.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to get the Cobra SC 200D Dual-View Smart Dash Cam for my car since I do a lot of delivery driving. The installation into my Subaru Outback was easy, and I appreciate that the cables were long enough. I installed the front camera below and left of the rear-view mirror and the rear camera at the top of the rear hatchback window. I downloaded and installed the Drive Smarter app and the iRadar app onto my iPhone and iPad. The app automatically downloaded and updated the firmware of the camera. The camera connects with Bluetooth, and it also acts as a Wifi host for live-streaming the camera to the phone. The installation guide was easy to follow. I highly recommend downloading the manual from the Cobra.com web site and then read through it before using the device. My first day of driving was frustrating since I didn't fully understand the operation of the camera. Reading through the manual was very helpful. The quality of the videos and pictures are excellent. It is easy to access the files on the camera by plugging it into a computer via the included USB cable. The files are stored in clearly labeled folders for Front, Rear, Events, and Favorites. The camera will automatically overwrite the oldest files with the most recent recordings. When the Favorites button is pressed on the camera, it will lock the file to prevent overwriting. If an impact or hard braking is detected, the recording will be saved in the Events folder. I can get around one day of driving recorded on the included 16 GB SD card. The camera will support up to 256GB SD cards. While I love the cameras and the high-resolution recordings, I was very frustrated with the Drive Smarter app on my iPhone. It works well for displaying the camera images while driving, along with a map, and the integration with the iRadar app provides community-driven alerts for road conditions, speed zones, accidents, and traffic conditions. However, my frustration was in trying to configure the settings for the camera. Settings for Time, Loop Time, Screen Saver, Speed Units, and Display Settings would only stay on the camera until it was powered off. During my deliveries, I get out of my car around 30-50 times per day, which powers off the camera and loses the settings. When I installed the Drive Smarter app, I could not register on my iPhone since the button for submitting my information did not fit onto the screen. I had to register on my iPad with the larger screen. I did manage to get in touch with Technical Support via phone after waiting on hold for over an hour. They currently do not handle email or online chat for support. They noted my concerns and issues and provided me with an email address for sending in my problems. Tech support did recommend that I set the settings on the camera itself by using the buttons on the device's bottom. I did this, and the settings did save. Pros • Up to 1600P HD front camera (2560 x 1440 @30 fps) • Up to 1080P HD rear camera (1920 x 1080 @30 fps) • Hands-free voice control • 16 GB SD card memory storage • Embedded GPS • Motion sensing collision detection (G-Sensor) • Continuous loop recording of 1-3 minutes • Records video, sound, speed, and GPS location • Drive Smarter app integrates with the iRadar app • USB connection cable for viewing files via computer • Long enough cables for car installation • Clear 3" LCD display • Shows front and rear views on the display • Parking Mode with Motion Sensor (Requires power if car is off.) • Lane Departure, Forward Collision Warning, Speed Alert Cons • Drive Smarter app does not keep new camera settings • Tech support is hard to get ahold of. • The iOS apps only work in portrait mode on the iPad. • The web-based viewer does not show the images. Summary I love the quality of the videos from the dash camera and the rear-facing camera. When the camera is plugged into my computer, it is easy to review the videos and images. However, the software application for the iPhone and the web-based interface is sorely lacking. Technical support did say this was a newly released product, and they would review my list of issues. While I'm sure that Cobra will eventually fix the software issues, I don't like being the beta tester for a released product. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this unfinished product.

Great cam terrible app
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great tool for recording video in the event you need proof of Ford engine case of accidents accidents. I originally was purchasing it mainly for a rearview backup camera. This one had the camera attachment which mounts in the rear window. It does provide a view however the view is from the truck up and you are not able to see what’s below perhaps a small child or other object below that bumper or that level. In that case I’d give it a five but I know the only way to get that video of objects lower is to mount the camera externally on the rear tag plate or somewhere in that area. And I didn’t wanna do that. Otherwise it’s great however the app is terrible. Cooper needs to really work on the app that works with this camera it rarely pairs rarely holds the pairing and it’s pretty useless

Good but needs a few improvements

Easy to use Dash Cam.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Dash Cam was easy to set up and easy to use. Just the right size to not get in your way to view the road. We bought it with the idea to also use the rear camera. We have a min-van, and realized it is a long way from the front to the rear window, so we have not installed the rear camera yet until we figure how to use it with a longer cord than it comes with. For now, we are satisfied with the front camera.

Awesome safety device
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Small, Compact, easy to use and with plenty of great features. Would like to see some type of Blue Tooth capabilities rather than wired connection to back of vehicle camera. Display is vivid and easy to see. Love the detachable attachment you can purchase to move from vehicle to vehicle.

Video quality is outstanding
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is noteworthy to say dash cam is a very needed tech these days in the car's life. In terms of quality of build is great besides the camera. No touch screen in this piece of tech. However, psychical buttons are responsive and accurate. My only dislike is the rear camera. I had a couple of dashcams in the past where are embedded into one body. Having two separate cameras means more cables and work. What I like about it is the quality of the camera and picture and the compact design. Additionally, the smartphone app is intuitive and full of features ranging from parking mode and collision warning.

Needs some work
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quite easy to install. Records fine. I have found that sometimes it go to sleep and has to be restarted, like when stopping at a store and returning, after starting the vehicle sometimes it wakes up and sometimes it has to be restarted. We recently took a long trip driving 8 hours a day and found it would periodically just shut off, not good if you need it and find it was down. Maybe a settIng i haven't discovered yet but not great yet.

Perfect for Jeeps, Tacomas, off road vehicles
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have gone through 4 dashcameras in 2 years as they didn't perform as I needed (from $100 to $400 ones). Spending a lot of time driving to camping sites, hitting trails, etc., I wanted a camera to catch all of those "interesting" moments. This camera has high video quality for both the front and rear camera. It also has a voice feature that I discovered so I can take pics just from speaking to it. The drive smarter app is slick, better than Waze in my opinion.

Great idea with Questionable Execution!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the technology involved with this product. I like the lane departure alert and front end collision alert idea as well as the idea of a rearview camera. However, I am disappointed that the rearview camera mounts to the back window since mine is tinted. Also, having a truck I can not really see behind it too well because of this with the tailgate up. Sure you can see cars a good distance behind you but I wanted to able to use the rearview camera to assist in backing up by mounting it to the back of my truck beside the license plate on the bumper. I do like that the rear camera is able to display on the main camera's screen. However, although it says my phone connected to the camera it would not display the rearview camera on my phone or show my location. I did a software update on the camera while installing it. Maybe I should not have done that but I am not sure if it worked on the old software either. I just know I really want to be able to display the cameras on separate screens since the Cobra screen is only 3 inches and to me not exactly suitable for picture in a picture. I would like to see this dash cam with a screen at least 5" if not 6" and with a rearview camera that can mount either inside the car or outside the car. I am happy that the camera has a high resolution and clear videos. I just hope they improve the app software so it will display the rear camera on my phone and show my location on the map view section soon. I believe Cobra is going in the right direction with this product they just need to refine it and offer it in different configurations regarding screen size and rearview camera options.
