Customers regard the SC 200D Dual-View Smart Dash Cam favorably for its high-quality images, both day and night, and its ease of installation and use. Many appreciate the compact size and long cable lengths, but some users experienced issues with the app's performance and occasional reliability problems. A few also noted concerns about battery drain and SD card functionality.

The Cobra SC 200D is a 2-camera package for vehicles, with a camera for the dash and one for the rear window (or anywhere else you choose to mount it.) Mount It is to be seriously considered since both cameras use 2-sided 3M-type adhesive to mount. Not the kind of dash cam for moving from vehicle to vehicle. This is the first of 4 dash cams I've had that did NOT come with a suction mount. There's one star down the drain.
In all it's high tech wonder, the second camera connects with a good old-fashioned cord. I would have made Camera 2 wireless and rechargeable or at the very least slow-drain lithium replaceable batteries. This camera set has been designed to stay with your vehicle, no exceptions. Like the lack of a suction mount, portability is not a feature of the SC 200D.
The main camera has a power button, reset button and 4 multi-use buttons across the bottom which are used to access the menu, *ok* button etc. They aren't "touch" buttons but ones you have to manually press. And hope your sticky mount doesn't give way. The screen is fairly big and you can plant the image from the second camera on it at the same time. All kinds of settings for motion detection, microphone, GPS. But--the real magic happens with the app, so you aren't having to touch the camera.
Here's where the real aggravation began. The app asks for all kinds of info about the vehicle (lets you add more than one vehicle, which is a puzzle when it comes to the sticky mounts.) Year, make and model. And if you delve further it even wants your insurance carrier info. I don't think Cobra or it's "partners" should need all that info to register. And all this before it even connects with the camera. And after a dozen tries and every trick in the book after 20 years of IT work--nothing. It would not connect to the camera, period. All the icons and settings in the camera alive and well--wifi, bluetooth, the works. a Moto phone with Android One and no dice. So, I have a nice dash cam with *almost* all the bells and whistles and no phone app to use to work it. I was looking forward to installing this
camera but it has been a disappointment.

We're sorry you were disappointed with your SC200D.
We are working on releasing a suction mount as an accessory to the SC200D for those who need it, but an adhesive mount has the advantages of a more secure and permanent installation.
Also, please note that a wired rear-camera is a standard industry practice and is preferred by most users. The cord can be routed discreetly throughout the vehicle and ensures your rear-camera will always have power in the case of a rear-end collision.
In terms of your privacy, our team is dedicated to protecting your data and we do not require you to enter insurance information to use our app. This is an optional feature for those would like to save incident reports as proof in the case of an accident. We hope you will give the app another try, since we have released updates to the Android version which could help resolve your connectivity issues.
Our technical support department is always available at 800-543-1608 and you can find additional FAQs and troubleshooting steps on the Drive Smarter and Cobra Support pages.

the buttons are recessed and hard to see and feel. Handbook was useless - no information on how to use the dashcam. Is capable of voice commands - but how? No information to assist. Also, BBY did not have one on their display; Dual screen shows very small image. My old rear view only had the bottoms down the side -easy to see and touch.

I think a dash cam is a must these days. Having said that, I have had a few, and have yet to find one that's right.
I like the simple design of the Cobra, but wish it was touch screen rather than the buttons below the screen, although it worked. I know the product was new but it took awhile to search out certain features and figure out some quirks. Calls to Cobra went unanswered and the recording said to call back in weeks- not good. Connection to my iPh was not as intuitive as I had hoped, and it kept saying the cam was not connected after many pairing attempts. Finally figured out you had to go back to the main app screen and select the unit after pairing.
I did not like that the attachment to the windshield was not by suction, but rather by double side tape. Hopefully, it will hold up in the heat of Texas. Running two wires from the unit and hiding them was quite an effort (one is power, the other for the rear camera). Then I found out the rear camera wire was way too short for my mid sized SUV. Actually, it would be short for anything other than a sub compact car. Thus the rear camera remains unattached with the cable half way to the back.
I installed and tested what I could. The picture quality is good, and the set up- operation took some time to figure out. Again, I know the unit is new, but there is not much on line help, and Cobra doesn't answer phone for weeks !
I wish the camera had more adjustments especially given the fact , that once mounted it give no room for change. The rear camera also has very few mounting options.
I have ordered an extension cable for the rear camera, and have hope for the unit. Now that I have spent hours figuring out the operation, even with the rear camera not connected (yet!) I am keeping my finger crossed.

The Cobra SC 200D is a great dash cam that is overshadowed by a poorly programmed app. You get tons of features along with the ability to have a rearview dash cam. Build quality is good. The image quality and resolution are excellent.
You get extra adhesive pads and everything else for an easy install.
The main issue I have is with the Drive Smarter app. Getting the camera to connect and update firmware was a mess. Constant disconnects (not good during firmware install) and other issues with the app. Aside from the disconnects, when you change some settings in the app they don't transfer over to the camera. I made several adjustments in the app only to find they didn't register on the camera itself. Other features do work though with the app so there is some communication between the app and the camera. Cobra definitely needs to address some of the bugs within the application.
The bug ridden app really killed it for me because that's where you get to play with all features and make adjustments. Without the app it is just another dash cam. Hopefully they fix the issues in a future update.
If you are looking for a dash cam with the ability to control features from the app you might want to wait until they fix the bugs, or just look at a different brand altogether. If they can fix those issues this would be a great camera system to have in your vehicle.

Please remember that you can use a majority of the dash camera's features without the app, and can download videos directly from your camera to your computer using the included sync cable.

The Cobra SC 200D includes many features for the price. It has a 1600p QHD front camera and a 1080p rear. Both cameras provide excellent video. The mounts are attached using the included adhesive tape. Running the wires was easy in my 2006 Nissan Frontier. I was up and running in 20 minutes. Love being able to use verbal commands and it works flawlessly. I am also paired to a Google Pixel 4a running the newest version Android 11. That seems to big my biggest issue which I am sure future updates will address. Connection is great once connected but getting to that point seems to require multiple attempts sometimes especially the iradar app. Once connected the apps information is really well laid out and easy to understand especially the Drive Smart app. I strongly suggest reading the owners manual and setting everything up the way you want during the initial install as these are kind of set and forget devices in my opinion. They are there when you need them but not requiring daily interaction when functioning correctly. Overall assuming that Cobra can work on the connectivity a bit more especially on Android 11 this is probably the best camera and value on the market.

Cobra
Cobra - SC 200D Dual-View Smart Dash Cam with Rear-View Accessory Camera - Black
Model:SC200D
SKU:6412708
The unit tested worked as advertised in all functions except where noted with acceptable work arounds. Unit has a quality feel that the cheap ones do not have. Quick release option for camera is very nice for storing the camera in a cooler place or bringing it into the house.
Recommendations for dash cam:
Manual needs to include detailed information for all warning signals. This camera needs a still shot mode.
Need a suction mount option as a permanent sticker is very stressful when trying to get the exact position correct. None of the suction cup mounts work with this unit and non are available from vender.
Please use the GOPRO format for the top section of the mount.
Provide a mounting option for the rear camera that is attached on the front camera. Rear mount is not always an option for the user.
Factory settings should disable format mode for every time the camera is turned on.
Automatic record over old files is needed.
Heat mitigation in extremely hot climates:
Park in a garage, shade tree, remove cam from windshield and cover on center console, place a thin sheet of aluminum foil over the front with the back uncovered, or crack a window with a rain cover over the crack. All of these methods work and will prolong the life of all your camera parts for a very long time.

The only mounting option is adhesive; no temporary/removable option such as a suction cup. So, not only can you not move it between multiple vehicles, but you also get one (ok, two if you count the spare adhesive pad they supply) shot at mounting the camera in the perfect spot. Realize you can’t see the display because you put it behind the mirror? Too bad.
Discover that you can’t fully lower your sun visor because it hits the camera? Sorry.
Big oversight on their part, imo.
The mounting bracket will only allow for vertical adjustments to the camera once mounted. There is no way to make lateral adjustments, so sure hope you aim it correctly when you mount it. Remember, there’s no suction cup option, so make sure you get it right the first time.
The 12v socket is good & bad. I don’t like that the power cord for the camera is part of the socket, rather than a USB end that could easily be replaced if needed. However, the 12v socket does have an open USB port, so you could still plug other things in. Not sure how much power it supplies though.
It does include a micro-SD card, so the box does include everything you need. Some other dashcams require you to purchase the storage separately. Nice little win there.
Getting the app to connect to the camera’s wifi, so you can view recordings or update firmware, was quite the chore. Subsequent attempts had a 50/50 shot (at best) at actually connecting. Even then, I never did get the app to show live view, or the map when playing clips back. Numerous other quirks, like not being able to close the app, settings changes sometimes taking, and speed unit (MPH/kMPH) is the reverse of what the camera actually displays, show that the app is only half-baked.
Video quality (when it actually records…) is acceptable. When I connected the camera to my computer to view the clips, I was extremely disappointed to discover that half of my drives for the day hadn’t even been recorded. What good is a dashcam if you have little confidence that it’s actually going to record your drive?
Also, the display doesn’t turn off (you can set it to a “screensaver” that shows date/time and speed) unless you use the voice command to turn it off. I don’t like to drive with the display on, especially at night. I shouldn’t have to tell the screen to turn off every time I drive my truck. They need an option to automatically turn the display off after a minute or two. Although, considering my observation above, maybe leaving the screen on all the time would be a good in this particular case...
Overall, I can’t say I’d recommend the camera in its current state. That said, it is possible that future firmware & app updates could resolve several of these shortcomings, but this camera definitely isn’t ready for primetime yet. I’d pass until it’s been out for several more months, and even then, I wouldn’t buy unless you research firmware release notes. IF they actually publish them.

Hi, we're sorry that you are having issues with your camera.
Since you've received your unit we have released multiple updates to the Drive Smarter app with bug-fixes which would address the issues you've seen with connectivity, live-view, and settings changes updating the camera. The camera Firmware has also been updated to prevent any instances where the camera stops recording.
We are also developing a suction-cup accessory for those who need it. In the meantime, you can remove the adhesive mount using by sliding a putty knife between the adhesive and windshield. From there, you can use the extra adhesive strip to pick a new spot and re-mount.
Please reach out to our Customer Service team at 800-543-1608 or the support section on our website if you need anymore assistance.
Thanks,

PROS:

The camera is easy to use
CONS:
The app sucks, it's not well designed/coded
You have to be parked and have wifi + Bluetooth to be able to access any of your videos
I'm giving it one star because my camera died last week (one week shy of having it for 3 years). It just completely stopped working, it won't turn on, it won't factory reset.
For this price, I'd expect the camera to last longer than 3 years.
I purchased a "Nextbase" camera for my wife's car a year before I bought this one and it is still working fine.

Good cam bundle

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
For what it is, this bundle is a good unit. I installed it on a 2018 Chevy Traverse and here is my review:
* The front camera's cord is *just* long enough for an invisible install on this vehicle; check the route you plan to run the cord before buying or you might be disappointed.
* It's nice that the front camera's DC plug gives you a USB outlet so you're not losing convenience by adding this camera to your ride.
* The rear camera's cord had ~2ft leftover after running through the headliner from the front camera to the rear window of the vehicle. This is considered a full-size (3-row) SUV so I feel it's a pretty good length.
* A screen this size could benefit from being touch-enabled. Having to push buttons on the bottom of the screen causes the video to jostle which could be problematic.
* Both front & rear cameras allow adjustment *only* vertically after install. If you miss the left/right alignment when you stick it on, you're SOL. Could've benefitted from an orbital mount on both.
* I've yet to get the app to fully connect to the unit on my Android phone which is unfortunate since it adds quite a bit of functionality.
* The camera adds on lane-departure & front-collision warnings which may be very convenient for older vehicles/those without. Note that the unit has to be "calibrated" first and gave no walkthrough on how to do this. We'll have to wait and see how it works by just turning it on.
* Despite setting the date & timezone, the unit couldn't figure out it was no longer DST and I had to manually flip the switch; this will prove to be annoying in the spring & fall.
* The app annoyingly has a spot after configuration for "Camera 2" that you can't delete.
All in all so far I'm happy with it. I'm anxious to see the iRadar alerts, lane departure, and front collision warnings.

The emerging technology is still emerging

This is my experience and yours might be different.
Starting with the challenges:
The first problem is a problem with all dash cams. There's no way that the wires aren't in the way! The front cam's wire hangs down to the cigarette lighter (now power outlet) and the back camera is also wired. For me, this is a non starter. I can't stand clutter and I hate accidentally knocking into cords.
Next, the app is really confusing. I have an iphone that's only a year old. I don't think that it should be as challenging as it is to connect my phone to the dash cam, but it is.
Finally, I can't stand this new thing, that companies aren't including documentation and instructions. I don't want to have to go online to figure out how to use the things I've bought. I want a booklet where I can take notes to remind me how to use the thing.
The good things:
Setting up the system wasn't too difficult and it works just fine. The monitors is really clear and the clips are easily viewable in high definition.
I don't think that I'm going to keep it, but it's too high maintenance for me. Others might be really successful with it. For me, I'll wait until the technology makes things easier and a whole lot neater.
I'd recommend this with plenty of reservations for tech friendly friends who are used to cables.

Thank you for trying our Dash Cam.
Please note, you can tuck the cables from the camera around your windshield by pressing them into the headliner and going around. This allows for a much "cleaner" installation.
Our camera's also come with a Quick Start Guide which explains all of the camera's buttons and how to mount it. This should be enough to get you started, but yes from there the detailed user manual can be found online.
We've also released app updates since your review which should address the issues you're seeing with connectivity.
Thanks!

Great Video Quality!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
This dash camera has very impressive video quality! The Cobra SC200D has a lot of great features. First of all, it is relatively compact. It doesn't take up a large amount of space when installed on your front window. It comes with multiple "sticky pads" that will allow you to change the location later if you so desire. The unit has embedded GPS and projects the coordinates of your location along with the vehicle speed, date, and time right on the video footage. The dashcam also comes with a rear camera that can be attached to the back window of your vehicle via a long cable. The unit also came with a 16gb micro sd card. After testing out the camera, I removed the micro sd card and put it straight into my laptop. The card had three different folders on it. One for events, one for the front camera, and one for the rear camera. The camera also records audio of what is going on inside the vehicle while it is running. The reason I gave the camera 4 stars instead of 5 is that I had trouble with the Drive Smarter app that can be downloaded to your smart phone. The app downloaded easily, but when it came time to set it up, I had issues. The app would locate the dashcam and pair with it, but any time I attempted to use features on the app with the dashcam, the app would say that the dashcam was "out of range." Not one time have I been able to access features such as the live feed from the camera. This is frustrating. I will say that not being able to use the app in no way affects the performance of the dashcam itself. If you plug it in, it seems to work perfectly. The camera also boast several smart features, such as wifi, voice control, cloud video management, lane departure warnings, and collision warnings. The dash cam seems to be great. If Cobra could fix the app pairing issue that would make it even better!
