Glorious Camera; Multiple Issues
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cobra is ambitious in its attempt to integrate technology with their SC 400 dash cam. Unfortunately the implementation falls a bit short. To be fair, not everything is bad. Beginning with the unboxing which includes a 64GB SD card. The dash cam is slightly on the beefy side, boasting a large beautiful 3” 1600x1200 touch screen. There is a solid feel and weight, no loose or flimsy parts, and overall has a premium aesthetic. Like most dash cams, setup times and experiences will vary depending upon your familiarity with dash cam installations. I have a mid-size SUV, prior installation experience, and chose to run and hide the cords. Total install time was approximately 30 minutes. The dash cam is powered by a cigarette adapter, which does have an extra USB port built in. I understand cigarette adapters are common in many cars, but it would be nice to have the option of powering via USB. The dash cam is held securely into the mount, which is attached by very strong adhesive to the windscreen. The 140 degree field of view does allow for several placement options, however the mount itself does not provide for many adjustments to be made. Essentially you have excellent vertical adjustment, but poor horizontal. Video and audio quality is excellent. This is really where the Cobra SC400 shines. Recording in 4K yields incredibly beautiful, clear video in both day and night settings. Of note - you do have the option of recording in less than 4K which will obviously produce lower quality images, however the SC400 still does a great job with the lower image resolutions. The SC400 audio quality is above par as well. Voices and internal noises are captured clearly, while distant sounds such as road noise (unless excessive) is seemingly diminished. This dash cam has the rare capability of actually incorporating three cameras, all viewable from the main screen. There is the included rear camera, and an optional cabin camera, which I do not have and cannot speak to. The rear camera also produces great images in both day and night settings. This camera secures to the rear window much the same as the main camera. It does have vertical tilt adjustment, but no horizontal. The main front dash cam is a beautiful touchscreen, with large responsive buttons. Cobra touts their Drive Smarter app, along with Alexa integration. This is where the SC400 experience falls apart. The Alexa setup was frustrating. Alexa found the dash cam after multiple attempts, however it has continually lost connection and integration. Reconnecting with Alexa yielded the same original frustration and the vicious cycle starts all over. Now the Drive Smarter app. Excellent idea, but very poor execution. Again, connection issues galore. It takes forever for the dash cam to connect to the app (my device is an iPhone 12 Pro Max). The app randomly disconnects during use. The app itself is incredibly slow overall. Pulling up videos takes forever, AND you have to be connected to the dash cam. While the app is not required, if you’re going to have an app and attempt to integrate some great tech features - make sure it works! So at the end of the day here is my final verdict. If you want a dash cam with a large touchscreen that produces brilliant 4K video and clean audio - this is a contender. If you are looking at this SC400 for the Alexa integration or for the app features - you may be disappointed. Would I recommend - yes and no. I would recommend the SC400 for the actual core feature which is recording footage. I would not recommend the SC400 for the integrations, which are frustrating, inconsistent, and seem like a gimmick at this point.

good dash cam, app needs work
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The dash cam is a wired camera that connects to a cigarette lighter receptacle and attaches to the window not with a suction cup, but rather something like a double sided tape. The attachment seems secure enough, though if you need to reposition it a few times, I am not sure how many times it would hold, though it seems to do well after I've repositioned it perhaps 4 or 5 times. I have not yet had the opportunity to see how well it holds in hotter (over 80 degrees) or colder (30 degrees or below) weather. To get the best view, the camera needs to be placed in the center of the window as there is no opportunity to adjust it from side to side or up and down. Once it's on the window, it has a fixed view with no way to adjust other than repositioning the unit. A rear view camera is included with a long cord that should allow it to attach to the main camera on the front window to the rear window of even an SUV. For those who like a "clean look", the two wires dangling down from the windshield may be unsightly as they're not easy to hide. The camera quality appears to be good and the images appear sharp. The camera does not have night vision and if it's dark out, it will pick up only where headlights shine or other lights are bright enough to illuminate the area. The three star rating is for the tie-in with the application used for the device. I am using an iPhone 12 with the updated IOS system and updated firmware for the camera. I paired the phone/app to the camera. However, each time that I get into the car and the dash cam comes on , I find that I have to re-connect the camera to the app manually. It did not do it automatically. With regard to the Alexa service, I got it to work exactly one time. After that, no matter how many times I set it up with the Alexa app on the phone, no matter the fact that it said that it was enabled, I could not get the Alexa function to work, either by voice command or by tapping the icon. From what I can see, the camera appears to be a solid camera with clear images and a helpful watermark. However, the problems that I have had with the app make the camera much less useful and I would be inclined to return it. If the app were improved, I'd recommend it. If it were to remain as-is, I would not.

Most Impressive
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This Cobra dash cam has become my favorite vehicle accessory by far! Setup was fairly easy and I'm impressed by the adhesive they use to mount to my windshield. Normally I prefer a suction cup mount but the holding power on this one has made me a convert. I also like that it's not super huge and thus does not obstruct my view like my previous dash cam did. Video quality is well above average and puts my old one to shame. Of course 4k always looks better than 1080p. The user interface is fairly straightforward and easy to use. While it comes with a 16GB micro-SD card installed I swapped it out for a 128GB card. The phone app was easy to get installed and setup on my iPhone which makes it much easier to quickly review any recorded video. Overall, this is one impressive piece of automotive kit!

Good Dashcam, Bad Smart Device.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been testing the Cobra SC400D 4K dual-view smart dashcam for the last week. Overall, I think this is a good dash cam that is held back because of its smart functionality. Pros: - The SC400 came with a 64GB SD card and everything I needed for a simplified, wired install of the two cameras. It even came with two extra strips of 3M tape just in case I didn't get the alignment right on the first try. - It has a 3 inch display. Which is large enough for me to see the video and small enough that it does not block my vision of the road. Also the second camera is small enough that it is virtually invisible. - Video quality on both cameras is really good. However, it was either incapable of capturing license plates at night or the LED headlights on my truck are too bright for the camera to adjust to. - It is able to record in 4K and has the option of reducing the quality to 1440P to save memory space. - The recorded video files had time stamps that were consistent with the time the video was recorded. Which made searching for events very convenient. Also, it captured video in 1 minute increments. Each 4K video was on average 196 MB in size. Cons: - The front camera mounts using 3M tape. So, I am not able to use it in another vehicle. It would have been better if it had a suction mount. - It was only able to capture license plates from about 10 feet during daylight hours. It was not able to capture license plates at night. - The App is very buggy and unfortunately, it is the only way to access the camera's settings. - The camera does not have any native smart features. All the smart features are reliant on my phone and the Drive Smart App. - The drive smart App requires my phone's location to be "Allowed at all times" and will not work when set to "Only while using the app". There is no conceivable need for a dashcam app to know my physical location at all times. This is a huge privacy issue. Hopefully these issues can be fixed in a software update. Because, like I said in the beginning, this is a good dash cam but it is held back by its smart functionality.

Crystal clear
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Looking for a high quality camera on your dash and rear end? Look no further! This product was very easy to setup and get installed. Once going the recording was crystal clear no vibrations detected in the capture. The real time alerts were helpful for police activity nearby as well as red light cameras. This is truly a smart dash that expands upon basic ones in years past. The dual recording of from and back that’s viewable in screen etc. is easy to use. It uses the SD card to store. Product was solid and functions as advertised! If you take lots of trips or looking for something on those daily commutes you won’t be disappointed!

Another Good Product From Cobra
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cobra has long made excellent radar detectors, and I have owned several over the years. For that reason, I was interested in their products when looking for a new dash cam. The SC 400D was of interest, because it offered both a front camera and rear camera, and voice command via Alexa. In addition, features such as GPS, Parking Mode (motion and impact detection), Emergency Mayday Alert, and Incident Reports are functional advantages. What’s to like: • The dash camera has a 3” LCD (OLED per website) Touchscreen with 4K UHD Video, providing clear and sharp viewing. The field of view shown is excellent. Furthermore, it can support two additional cameras, one of which is included in the package: a rear-view camera. • The power cable for each of the cameras is very long. Though less so for the dash cam, a long cable is needed to connect with the rear-view cam. • Parking Mode is certainly a potentially helpful feature. To function, a consistent source of power needs to be provided. That means you need to plug the power cable into an “always on” socket or hardwire the camera. “Always on” is drawing on your battery, but it is a low voltage drain and shouldn’t be a problem with a healthy battery. If you are still concerned about battery usage, you can select one of several cutoff times. • There are Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) features included. (NOTE: Provided information regarding both come with an important caution: Both are to be considered only for limited informational purposes by the driver. They do not control the auto. It is the driver’s sole responsibility as to safe operation of the vehicle.) • The rear camera can assist with what is going on behind you. (NOTE: It is not a backup camera, per se. There is no grid showing proximity to objects behind you.) • Mounting is done via adhesive pads which hold the camera tight! Caution: Be as sure as you can that you have the correct spot for mounting each camera, because the adhesive, which ongoing can be your friend, is not going to want to turn loose. • Bluetooth and dual-band wi-fi are supported. • Alexa is built in. • An SD card is preinstalled in the camera, a bit unusual these days. To prevent a recording or snapshot being inadvertently erased, cloud storage is available. What’s not to like: • Camera positioning for viewing is limited to vertical adjustment. No horizontal! • The Drive Smarter app feels like it is still in Beta and is the weakest component in the package. Friendly, it is not. • For the GPS to stamp your location on video, the camera must be hardwired (optional wiring kit) and connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot in the car. • Even though Alexa is built-in and shows to be connected, using voice commands is dicey at best. So far, turning camera on or off is all that works. Overall, the SC 400D is an excellent dash cam with helpful features beyond just taking quality video. Hopefully, the app will be improved sooner than later, but don’t let the app turn you away from the cam itself. The cam alone is a worthy device.

An Excellent Choice For A Dashcam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had been using my GoPro as a dasham but not all that excited with the results. The Cobra SC400D Dual-View Dash Cam with Rear-View Accessory Cam sounded like a great replacement. With 4K capability, inluded Amazon Alexa, stop light camera and radar notifications, this Cobra dash cam has it all! The Cobra dash cam is built very well and quite easy to set up and use. It provides 1, 2 and 3 minute looping and will continue filming as long as it is powered on. Accident loops will be locked so as not to be overwritten or deleted by accident. The dash cam will overwrite older video loops once it runs out of space. The Cobra dash cam comes with a 32gb micro photo card but will take larger sizes as needed. I drove around town today to try out this new dash cam and did not receive any notifications of radar or red light camera activations. The color video was clear, sharp and surprisingly good! The Cobra Dual-View Smart Dash Cam came with a Rear-View Accessory Cam. I chose not to install it as I was not ready to spend time stringing wire to the front cam and trying to hide the cable that connects the rear cam to the front. I'm sure it will add quite a bit to the overall effectiveness of this unit. Overall, I am very happy with this device and recommend it to you.

Excellent Safety Features!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had a Cobra dash cam for some time and have really enjoyed it. This one is really the next level and it is already installed in my SUV. Setup was easy and the app is very intuitive. Video quality is also excellent even at night. it comes set up with Alexa but as a Google home guy that isn't too helpful for me but is my only complaint as this is a solid full featured device. The cord for the rear camera is plenty long, I have a large SUV and had plenty of cable. Of the features I really like the following. GPS gives accurate location data of the video that is being taken. Also Motion detection is used in several ways. In the event of an accident it will lock video before and after the impact to help with post accident investigation. Also Motion and other sensors can detect possible damage while you are parked and away. This is especially useful with the rear cameral. Finally the option to add a cab camera is definitely a nice touch to have a full record of the total environment. I recommend this fully and hope it provides you the piece of mind that it does me. Safe Travels!!

Great, functional dash and rear view cam system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was excited to get this as I had never had a dash or rear cam in my car before. I do a lot of interstate driving and I see a lot of crazy things happen on the road so it will be nice to share all the times I cheat death on the highway, lol! Unpackaging the box and you find both the front and rear cameras, a mounting bracket for the dash cam, a long cable to connect the rear cam, a charging cable, a micro-USB to USB adaptor, and 2 adhesive pads. I wish they had given the option of using suction cups as I just like them better and I don't have to clean any glue reside. Not to mention, I live in Florida and sometimes the heat tends to melt glue. Set-up was easy enough. Just mount the cameras, wire it up, and download the DriveSmarter app and you are ready to go! It could be more difficult depending on how well you want to hide the wires. The app is a little tricky to set up I thought. Synching with Alexa is always a problem for me, but I got it hooked up. I haven't really had to use the Alexa integration yet, but will if the need arises. The picture quality is very good (4k) and I was impressed at how clear the viewscreen was on the camera being that it is only 3". Unfortunately, I haven't had anything exciting happen lately to record and share, but it's only a matter of time. I highly recommend this camera system!

Connection is Terrible. Dual Cam Only
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera video and audio is good. You cannot connect two accessory cameras to it at the same time, so the description of this camera is very much a lie. It has 3 channel settings but no way to connect a 3rd channel camera physically. I tried a splitter also. Nothing. Here's what Best Buy is describing the camera as - 3-view capable Includes front-facing SC 400D dash cam and a rear-facing accessory camera to provide dual-view capability. Add on an optional cabin-view accessory camera to record the road ahead, behind, and inside the vehicle at the same time. I own every accessory for this camera and it was waste of $500. So, only a two camera system. NOT 3. I can plug any of the other cameras into it at any time individually. Cabin, Back, and Exterior. One. Only one additional camera. Did I mention the camera only allows one additional camera aside from the main front camera... if not, there it is. Dual Camera Only. So the breakdown on this camera is that it is great on it's own. Really awesome. Using any apps or bluetooth/wifi features suck. Including Alexa. That never wants to work. The voice control turns off constantly. If you want to have a great camera for video and audio only. I'd say great. If you think you'll be using apps to do anything with this, you won't be.

Very Good Dash Cam
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall the Cobra - SC 400D Dual-View Smart Dash Cam with Rear-View Accessory Cam is a very good Dash Cam. The following are the positive and negative after use: Positive Feedback: Easy to set up. The device and phone app have lots of useful features. Extremely clear quality in both day and nighttime driving. Touch screen is easy to use. Will definitely help in case of reporting an incident. Suggested Improvement: It should include a case/ protective cover for when it's removed from the dash for storage.

Easy setup and great picture quality
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The main unit is about the size of a standard digital camera. The included SD card is 64GB, which is more than enough for hours of recording at a time. There are some basic controls on the unit's touchscreen, but most of the setting features are accessed through the mobile app. The charger plugs into a cigarette lighter and has an additional USB port built into the top of the housing. The rear camera is wired and has plenty of length to reach your back window while allowing the wire to be hidden along its path. The display screen can be configured to show only one camera or you can select which camera to display on a smaller screen in the top corner. You can even configure the unit to start recording when the car is stopped if it senses something come into contact with your vehicle. The quality is what you would expect from Cobra and it is nice to know that if there is an event you have it recorded from all angles.

It works and it works really well, simple as that
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This will be short and sweet. You want quality and reliability, this is it right here. I like the heft and sturdiness of it to where it becomes one with your vehicle like a permanent built in camera. Personally we have a dash cam in each vehicle and we never take them out. It's worth the investment. But 1080p makes you wanting more. 4K is perfect and is great for reading license plates and just seeing things more clearly and accurately so that nothing is in question. To be honest once it's set up and ready to go, I'm not dealing with the app much. Yes it's integral to the system but the app can always be updated and improved upon. The hardware itself is exquisite. This is ultimately the best dash cam that I have ever owned and I am so happy with its quality. To be honest, it's worth more than half the value of the used car I have it in too.

Do not buy — complete disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This dashcam is a total disaster. Connecting to the device is nearly impossible. On iPhone: constant connection errors, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth failures, and endless glitches. On Android: same problems. The Drive Smarter app is extremely unstable and full of bugs. Updating the firmware requires complicated steps with SD cards, formatting, file conversions — far beyond what any regular customer should deal with. You will waste hours trying to get this thing to work. In reality, this dashcam just sits in the car as an expensive piece of useless plastic because most of the advertised features don’t function properly. Customer support is no help — they just blame “compatibility issues” and offer no real solutions. Absolutely NOT recommended. One of the worst purchases I’ve ever made. Total waste of money, time, and nerves.

Really Simple Set Up, and Super Useful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having a dash cam is extra vital where I live and has helped me feel a bit more secure when driving around or parking in sketchy areas. The rear cam is that extra bit of security, because it'll capture the people you know are distracted. I haven't had to need in the event of an accident but knowing I'm covered front and rear is gives me that peace of mind. It comes with an SD Card to save everything to and the app can trigger Alexa and emergency features.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great item!!! I was so skeptical because there isn’t a camera on the market that has 5 stars, trust me I looked for 3 months. But the only bad reviews with this camera was the reconnection between watching videos, which in all honesty is petty. I love the camera and the rear camera, I wish you could flip the image on the back camera if I had one negative thing to say that would be it!!!! Very pleased!!!

Nice Upgrade For Us
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a 1080p front & rear camera system in my personal car that I have been using for a while, I have tested some other systems but really wanted to try the Cobra system for a few reasons. First it was the 4K front camera & second was the Alexa voice controls. The 4K front camera is clear, crisp & absolutely gorgeous. Going from 1080p to 4K was a very nice upgrade & something I am extremely happy I did. I will be looking to get the in-cabin camera as well as a hardwire kit so that I can have the while parked features. Really looking forward to that. Second, the Alexa voice commands are really nice, integrate nicely, and are much easier than remembering what button does what. I am going to tinkering with the iOS Shortcuts app here in the coming weeks to try to tinker with it and see what other stuff I can get the Drive Smarter app & Cobra SC400D to do together. Should be a lot of fun. The question you are probably asking yourself is if the 4K is worth it as you compare systems or looking to upgrade your current system. As someone who had a 1080p 60fps system previously installed I can emphatically say YES! I would do it over again. I'll be looking to replace all my dash cam systems (3 in total) with this one or better yet, Cobra's most up-to-date one which they go 4K all around (only reason I'd hold out is knowing this will probably be coming at some point).
