You can choose how to use the extra buttons. One option is, You can adjust how fast your pointer moves across the screen. That option is right on the mouse.

My only complaint is that it seems to forget to automatically shut off and kills its own battery from time to time.

Only downside is the battery doesn't last very long while on wireless mode. Over all a great product and even using it wired it nice.
