CROCK POT EXPRESS_An All-In-One Solution
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it comes to delivering an unblemished machine, Crock Pot does not skimp on packaging. Dense insulation and a rugged box made for near indestructible protection from shipping impacts for what must be a complicated network of digital tech. The list of 14 food prep options makes this machine a multi tasking work horse...from manual pressure, air fry/crisp, simmer, saute, brown/sear to steam, slow cook, soup/broth, dessert, poultry, yogurt, rice/grains, beans/chili, meat/stew, saute and simmer. My interest was initiated by my very demanding goat, sheep and coconut yogurt habit. Store bought is very expensive at ~ Trader Joe’s Goat @$5.49/32oz to Culina’s Coconut Yogurt @ $4.99/5oz. The machine was a promising solution then I realized that I did not thoroughly vet the container that holds the food. The container looks like it may be Teflon coated; but, turns out that it’s not. If you search ‘risks and dangers’ of Teflon you will find that PFOA's leaching into hot food or any food is carcinogenic. And, as a holistic practitioner, I am super vigilant about protecting the body from hormone disrupting toxins, one source for so many health challenges among many others that consumers think are due to aging only. Thankfully, my concerns were addressed by the manufacturer in response to inquiries by consumers, giving me the freedom to pursue my cooking intentions without restraint. See the following feedback from the Crock-Pot Manufacturer: “The Crock-Pot® Express Crock Multi-Cooker uses a non-stick coating that is NOT Dupont Teflon. Our non-stick coating is safe when used for cooking. In addition, our products are designed to reach maximum temperatures well within limits that causes the non-stick coating to release fumes.” Since research undermined my window to start the yogurt project, I used the AIR FRY/CRISP function for a veggie blend of parsnips, heirloom carrots, onions and celery. Super quick and easy to just slice, spice and jostle veggies in a tablespoon of grapeseed oil (all compatible with my blood type A). To coat foods with spice, I used a capped container but in the past I have used plastic locking bags that leach minimal amounts of plastic at room temperature. (Good idea to daily detox those exposures to prevent bioaccumulation over time.) Next install the rack into the food bin in the position that affords the amount of clearance from the underside of the AIR FRYER top (a separate unit from the PRESSURE COOKER top) required super sized or small to medium sized serving then press the AIR FRY button. The AIR FRYER Setting automatically indicates that the timer has been set to 15 minutes on HIGH; so, just press START. At the end of the AIR FRY cycle, just lift the lid to taste test that the veggies are your preferred texture. If not, then just put the AIR FRY top back on the machine for another round and press the START/START button for another 15 minute round. I needed an additional 15 minutes to satisfy my palate. At any time, the STOP/START button can be pushed to interrupt the cycle to taste test OR the manual settings plus or minus can be used to tailor cooking time to your preference. One note for future designs is that the integration of a small window to view crisping progress would be a convenient feature; but, that option might be a mechanical engineering feat only a good idea if cost of product stays within mainstream consumer tolerance. Nonetheless, I was thrilled with the outcome! I liken the flavor profile to that of grilled or roasted veggies, my favorite but super fast with easy clean up. I proceeded to AIR FRY pumpkin spice, tarragon and garlic tossed sliced white sweet potatoes with “grilled onions”. Next day, I followed up with the SAUTE Setting for a chunky cut butternut squash, celery and onions in a splash of pineapple juice coated with French Fines. Again, fast and furiously delicious! This tool covers lots of bases. Whether you have a full-blown kitchen or especially if you are in a dorm room or a tiny house, single or filled with family, you can put a chef’s spin on a multitude of recipes. An extensive recipe book is included with a handy chart indicating the lid required, CRISPER or PRESSURE COOKER, for each application. You might not need another appliance unless you are trying to do a variety of dishes simultaneously and just need an appliance to keep previously cooked items warm. One last point, consider the machine’s dimensions before purchase to be certain the required storage space is available.

Just buy an actual air fryer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought for the air fryer part but you can only air fry 2 pieces of chicken at a time. Not good for time efficiency when you need to cook more than 2 pieces.

Great at cooking and crisping. OK at air frying
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We’ve been using that well-known brand of pressure cooker for a couple of years and really like it, but the larger 8-quart size plus the crisping lip on the new Crock-Pot Express made it enticing enough to try. Pressure cookers are fast and convenient, but some things would be better with the look and taste of being browned or roasted, not stewed. Also, the Express would offer an extra if it eliminates the need for a separate air fryer. This is a big appliance, and with the additional crisping lid, it needs storage space beyond that of a typical pressure/slow cooker. That said, with an eight-quart capacity, it’s big enough to cook for a family of 4-6. However, when using it as an air fryer with the included rack (no basket), it’s capacity is rather limited, so you will need to fry several batches for a larger family. The quality seems quite good, and there are plenty of pre-programmed buttons … one set for pressure, one set for slow cooking, and a couple of buttons for crisping and frying. As mentioned, there are two lids. One is the standard one you’re used to, and the other is the large crisper which plugs into the handles of the base unit eliminating the need to plug it in separately. It comes with a non-stick coated pot, a wire rack that can be flipped for two air frying heights, a rack to rest the hot crisper lid on when removed, and a plastic stirring spoon. In use, the slow and pressure cooking options and performance are similar to other pots. I do have a concern that while easy to clean, the coated aluminum pot may not be as durable as a stainless steel pot. When the crisper lid is used, it automatically changes your cooking choice to air frying. It’s amazingly quiet compared to other air fryers I’ve used. That’s a big benefit since if you’re finishing a recipe by crisping, that extra step will be just before serving when you’re going to be in the kitchen. It’s also going to add 10 minutes or so to cooking time, so plan appropriately. Beyond what other pressure cookers offer, this has the ability to crisp and brown slow and pressure cooked foods plus a somewhat limited air frying ability. If those features are a real plus to you and worth the extra cost, this is probably the best out there now. It depends on how and what you cook, so the decision is yours.

Broke Pretty Quickly, Barebones Features
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It broke on us not long after the warranty expired—not being able to set things like temperatures for the air fryer mode made using recipes nearly impossible, and that's why we bought it. Between the shoddy quality and poor usability this is VERY hard to recommend, especially as an air fryer.

Lack of Quality Control
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used it 3 times, first and second time was perfect, food came out perfect. The third time, I was about to use the air fryer lid and a screw fell down. I returned it and bought an Instant Pot with air fryer (second Instant Pot).

Not for us.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Yikes - three adults could not get this to operate correctly. Kept shutting off, food undercooked, lengthy cooking times, cumbersome, difficult to clean after 1 use. We had to return this item - perhaps ours was defective.

The inner pot starts peeling off
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The inner pot starts peeling off after using 5 to 6 times. Even after using wooden spatula for cooking, feels like very made up off very cheap material. I would not recommend.

Great All-In-One Kitchen Appliance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who has both an Air Fryer and Pressure Cooker, I was seeking an option that would be able to take up a bit less counter space and this does the trick. This provides you the simplicity of pressure cooking with the option of air frying the only additional storage you need to worry about is the additional lid versus another appliance. This appliance would work well for anyone just testing the waters of pressure cooking and air frying as it is simple to use and user friendly given the included recipe booklet. Like any of these types of appliances, this is definitely worth the investment and will be a great option during these cooler months, if you don't have one already I would suggest picking it up!

Just about perfect...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Express cooking vessels are everywhere and the choices can be fairly daunting. We've held off on purchasing one and have opted instead to have separate appliances for various duties. But with this Crock-Pot 8-Qt. Express Crock, we can now eliminate a few separate cooking products from the pantry ... because this thing seemingly does it all. This particular model is a beast. Don't let the user manual frighten you - it is big & detailed - but you'll be able to get going pretty fast with the intuitive built-in modes via the touch panel on the front. All of the most commonly used functions are there and logically laid out. This cooker is a marvel to behold. All the separate components are well engineered and have a solid, quality feeling once you've put your hands on them. The interlocking crisper lid mechanism is pretty ingenious and one of our favorite features of the Crock-Pot 8-Qt. Express Crock. We own (and have owned) several different types of air fryers over the past several years and haven't been completely satisfied with their performance or build quality, even though in the principal - they are handy & convenient bits of kitchen technology. But now, with the Crock-Pot 8-Qt. Express Crock, we have truly experienced a top-shelf air fryer that is unrivaled in performance and convenience. With the non-stick coating of this units bowl in conjunction with the flexible racking system, this express crock yields unparalleled results compared to anything else we've tried. Crisping up all the usual goodies was easy and the result is consistently, evenly cooked food; from chicken strips to pizza pockets to hand battered shrimp to a small chicken. Without a doubt, this is the best air fryer we've ever used and one of the easiest to keep clean & ready for the next day. Didn't have enough time to run through the more standard crock pot and pressure cooking features of this unit but suffice to say that we are confident that the Crock Pot undoubtedly meets those needs as well. But we really can't say enough good things about the air fryer/crisping lid option of this unit. Wouldn't be fair to lavish only praise for his cooker. This unit is hardly what we'd call 'portable' so we aren't quite sure why the permanently attached power cord is so dang short. Seems like an oversight in design. We would have preferred a detachable power cord or a fixed one that was at least several inches longer by design. This unit is big and needs counter space, so 'reach' is important. With that said, we still think this express cooker is the one to get ... even if you have to use it with an extension cord.

This is an amazing cooker.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an amazing cooker. I cooked some pizza pasta the first night and it turned out quick and amazing. This utilized browning of ground beef. The pressure cooker part is hard to over look the speed with. The second night I cooked tortilla soup. The chicken was great and just had to be shredded. Cooking time was only 14 min for some soup. I cooked the best mac n cheese I've ever had from the cookbook which included the crisper. The crisper browned the bread crumbs perfectly. I wasn't the biggest fan of the air fryer. I cooked some pizza pillows and they weren't quicker than the microwave and I don't think it was quicker than the oven would of been either. So I wouldn't look at this for the air fryer but see that as an add on to food like crisping the mac n cheese. Also I cooked baked potatoes that I had to finish in the microwave because the middle was still raw. The pressure cooker setting seemed to no really help there. Additionally I cooked a pot roast. That was a little harder than a slow cooker. I browned it which was nice to do in one pot then pressure cooked. The pot roast didn't seem to "melt" like it normally does in a slow cooker. It was faster for sure and didn't take the whole day like normal. But the meat didn't seem as good. For throwing a meal together at night after work I thought the pressure cooker part was awesome. But if you are able to cook all day, a slower cooker seems the better hands off approach. It's hard to overlook coming home from work and dinner is done than taking on prep time pressure cooking a quick meal. Also with things like sauteing and simmering the machine wants a time frame associated with it when often it's a "till done" situation that isn't time based. I wish I was able to turn some functions on without having to set a time to them. I would still recommend this product but preface what you are buying in to. This takes up a lot of space in the kitchen and I don't think I can replace it with the slow cooker and the rice cooker. But if I didn't already have those things this would be amazing. Clean up was easy with the nonstick insert. I cooked fast enough to just hand wash but I think there would be no issue dishwasher cleaning. For my family this didn't necessarily make our weekly lives easier but allowed for use to introduce some new meals to the mix.

Its good, but not as good as Instant Pot
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm comparing this to my Instant Pot, which I love, but I wanted to try the crisping feature. Overall, I'd say the Instant Pot is better, but the Express Crock does have pros. Here are the pros and cons, again compared to the Instant Pot. PRO: - The pot is non-stick so saute feature and cleanup are WAY better. With the Instant Pot, no matter how much oil I put in, I cannot transfer from saute/browning to pressure cook mode because it thinks there isn't liquid in the pot because of the stuck on food after the saute/browning. - Every function it alleges to have works as expected - it pressure cooks, slow cooks and crisps CONS: - It's heavy and big and bulky. - Yes, it crisps, but the capacity to crisp in one batch is so small that it ended up taking longer (because of the number of batches I had do) than it would have to use the oven to bake and then broil to crisp because I could have done one batch - The time set also did not seem to work properly with the crisp feature. The recipe I was doing required cooking for a period of time, then tossing and cooking for another few minutes. I could set the time for the first round, but after I tossed, I could not get the time to set. I read the instructions over and over and couldn't figure out if I was doing something wrong or if it just doesn't work. - To pressure cook, it takes a long time to heat up. Add 15 minutes to your plan just for it to warm up before it starts pressure cooking. Yes, Instant Pot has to warm up too, but it is more like 5 minutes.

Big
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered this online so I hadn't actually seen it till it was delivered. When it arrived the size of the box was kind of intimidating. Fortunately after unpacking it wasn't quite as big as the box as a lot of space was taken up by the crisping lid. Still it might be a little big if you have a smaller kitchen or limited storage space but my medium size kitchen can handle it. Works great so far. I tried the normal slow cook option first with pot roast, potatoes, and carrots (+ a few secret ingredients) and of course it worked well. The food was great. Next I tried the "rotisserie" chicken in the included recipe book with some personal variation. This uses the pressure cooking followed with use of the crisping lid. Also tasted great. It also supports many other cooking functions which I look forward to trying out. The programmable functions are good too. It makes cooking simpler and fun again. I like it.
