So - if you don't already have an SSD (or NVMe) drive in your system(s), you don't really have an excuse any more for being lazy. Moving away from spinning disk to Solid State is just a no brainer. Perhaps you just didn't think capacities were high enough. This 1TB Crucial SSD drive should then change your perspective!
Installation in desktop system is a breeze - nearly just plug and play - especially if you're just using for a supplemental storage drive. Laptops and all-in-one devices can be a little more tricky simply do to the density of these system - but still doable by most people. For those looking to switch to this as their primary boot drive, heading on over to Crucial.com and download Acronis True Image for Crucial. There are online instructions that are a easy to follow. Just be sure to backup your data first...just like in any upgrade. The Acronis software allows you to clone your old boot drive onto your new disk with ease (like connected via a USB adapter), then when completed, you shut down your system and simply replace the drive and boot up!
If you are not an IT Geek, you should also download and install the "Crucial Storage Executive" software you'll also find on the site. Once done, open it and navigate to "Momentum Cache" and Enable it. This is a set it and forget it setting to managing your new SSD drive.
Really - it's time to jump into SSD and get rid of the old spinning disks you have. Crucial makes this fast and easy - and the benefit is that SSD improves the performance in EVERYTHING, every day, all day. It the first upgrade to do to older systems. You can thank me later via email.

Fantastic PC Upgrade

This is an upgrade I've been wanting to do a long time for my computer and I finally found the right device and the time to do it. I have an Acer Aspire R15 laptop, with Intel Core i5 processor and 12GB of RAM that's about 4 years old. It fit perfectly right where the old SATA drive was located. I took the time to figure out a couple of basic timings in order to have a baseline to which to compare the performance difference. These are just my experience and noting my average speed. If you want detailed diagnostics, other software is available to use to compare the speed.
Prior to the upgrade
Time to boot from off, nearly 3 minutes
Time to launch Outlook was unbearable at just under a full minute.
After the upgrade
Time to boot from off, about 1 minute
Time to launch Outlook was nearly instantaneous
Everything seems much faster now. Crucial includes the Acronis software that's very simple to use that allows you to clone your disk easily. The installation is relatively simple, but if you're not comfortable installing computer components, I'd have a professional do it for you.
Overall, highly recommended upgrade to speed up your PC and give it years more usability.

New life for an old laptop

I have an Acer Nitro 5 laptop. It’s a couple of years old but still a nice moderate gaming laptop with some use left. Its 1TB spinner hard drive was a serious performance weak point though and was clearly holding the system back. I used this drive to upgrade it and it’s seriously like having gotten a brand new laptop.
The MX500 design is lightweight, runs cool, and is so fast. The Nitro used to take a minute… or more… to boot from scratch which could get tedious when doing updates. Now it goes from off-to-logon in maybe 15 seconds, and half of that is the laptop itself just doing its pre-boot checks. Once logged on I was easily copying and moving large files at ~400MBytes/s.
This is a typical 2.5” hard drive format, and includes a spacer if you need it to make the drive fit snug in your drive bay. The drive doesn’t come with software but crucial offers a free download of Acronis True Image that allows you to clone your existing drive. It isn’t hard if you’ve done this kind of thing before, but if it’s your first time their step-by-step guide walks you right through it.
For me, it breathed some fresh life into a slightly older laptop and I’m very happy with the result.

This drive is blazing fast. It tested in the 550's MB/s for read & write speed with crystal disk mark 6. 3D NAND FTW
I was able to easily clone my old SSD to this drive using the included Acronics 2020 cloning software. Super easy setup IMO and the drive itself works great, exactly as advertised. My Laptop boots up about 5 seconds faster than with my old SSD. Not a lot but noticeable.
Pros
High read/write speed
easy installation to most PC's and laptops.
The included cloning software worked flawlessly.
Ive read where crucial has great CS support.
Con
wish it had came with a sata cable or adapter for external use.
I dont think you can go wrong with this Crucial SSD.

I highly recommend this.
It's a very fast drive with excellent read and write speeds. Very very simple to install into your PC and ready to go.
I used this as my main drive and everything booted super quick, no noises or anything. Crucial make some great drives.
I recently sold my PC and bought the insignia 2.5" enclosure and now use it as extended storage on my Xbox series X. Works absolutely fine and has good speeds still for playing Xbox one games.

Excellent cost effective SSD to exapand your storage, easy to install and works flawlessly. The Crucial data migration and drive cloning software that comes with purchase made this work seamlessly. In operation, it is a huge improvement over HDD and reduced load times across all my games.

Packaging is minimalist with only drive, spacer and quick start guide included. Really all you need though if have any experience at all with adding or replacing a SATA drive. They're pretty much plug-and-play. If you don't have much experience with installing a drive the quick start points you to their support site that has step by step instructions with videos showing how to copy data and install into a laptop. If you need to install into a desktop it's even easier in my opinion. The main link is for installing into a Windows computer and they do provide a URL for a Mac install, which I did not look at.
I added the drive as extra storage in my Windows computer and was able to add in just a matter of minutes. How easy it is of course depends on your specific computer model and the design of the case.
I am storing games and videos on this drive and find it so much faster to load than from my old standard mechanical HDD.
Would recommend Crucial as I have had very good experience with their products and this drive has a 5 year warranty which is pretty impressive.

Great (for a SATA drive)

First, this drive is an evolutionary dead end. If you have a choice, go for a M.2 NVMe drive instead (preferably one with DRAM cache). But if that is not an option (either an old computer or your existing M.2 slots are filled), then this is a great option for a SATA drive. This would be a nice choice for a bulk drive to hold games. I filled up the entire drive at almost 300 MBps using a USB adapter, and it never slowed down at all. So there is no issue with the SLC cache area filling up at this speed. I then tried installing it as a secondary drive in my gaming laptop, expecting better performance. Whoops, Windows 10 pro didn't seems to want to recognize it (probably due to encryption settings). Booting from an Ubuntu USB drive allowed me to confirm that the drive was working, and I was able to remove the existing partition. But no love getting this working with Windows. But I don't blame the drive; I blame Microsoft. Still, this is a nice drive for the money. You honestly won't find a SATA drive that is too much faster at any price, since SATA is the bottleneck.

Used this for a gaming PC build - fun project to do with my son - and connecting it to the motherboard and power supply was easy as 1-2-3. Plug and play and upon initial computer boot, it was recognized immediately - fast SSD and this is why this product has been an industry standard! Recommended.

From the viewpoint of an average user and not a computer gueek, I would recommend opening your computer and locating the hard drive before ordering the Crucial SSD - or any SSD. I have an older HP PC and the hard drive was not easily accessible like the ones in the instruction video. Another issue I encountered was that my hard drive is larger than the SSD which required purchasing a hard drive converter. A look inside the case first is recommended since some people might not be comfortable with the removal and assembly once they see what it entails. Another thing to consider is whether installing the SSD affects the warranty. My PC is old so not an issue, but there was a label saying that removing the hard drive would void the warranty.
A USB to SATA adaptor cable is needed for the initial data transfer and is not included in the package. I had to purchase one and wait for it to be delivered before I could proceed with the install. And since I didn't check the size of my hard drive before starting, the subsequent purchase of the hard drive converter further delayed the install of the SSD.
The on-line instructions were clear and the SSD improved the speed of my PC considerably. I would say that it is a very good product. Since a USB to SATA adaptor isn’t that common, it would be nice if the package included one.

This SSD has been a huge upgrade to my 2017 HP laptop with a HDD. Startup speed and speed at you can open files, windows office and surfing the internet is almost immediate after logging onto the computer. Install was easy and a plug and play after cloning HDD. I did need to buy a USB to 2.5" SATA cable. Crucial uses Acronis for Crucial cloning software which worked awesome.
