  • Key Specs
    • Storage Capacity: 1000 gigabytes (Measured in megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB) and terabytes (TB), this is the amount available for storing files, music, movies, photos and more. The total includes the capacity of the hard disk drive and solid state drive if both are included on the computer.)
    • Storage Drive Type: SSD (Traditional, mechanical hard disk drives are the most common type of storage because they're relatively inexpensive and offer huge capacities. However, they also generate both noise and heat. Solid state drives, also known as SSDs, are many times faster than hard disk drives and have no moving parts to wear out, but typically offer less capacity for the same price.)
    • Maximum Read Speed: 560 megabytes per second (The greatest speed at which the device can read information; for example, opening files.)
    • Maximum Write Speed: 510 megabytes per second (The greatest speed at which the device can write information; for example, saving files.)
    • Form Factor: 2.5 in.
    • Interface(s): SATA (Refers to the types of connections that devices use to interact and communicate with each other.)

Q: Would this be good for a gaming computer? I got my boys the iBUYPOWER - Gaming Desktop - Intel i5-10400F - 8GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 4GB - 240GB SSD + 1TB HDD Model: BB991R. Is this compatible and do I need anything else to connect? TIA :)

A: You could purchase this item but it's not necessary. The setup you provided already has a ssd. Most of the time when you are wanting a setup (unless you are wanting to reduce loading times for games) you will do one smaller ssd (solid state drive) at about 128 - 256 gb for the windows system files this is going to make loading times for the computer itself much better. You will want to keep the ssd semi empty and fill the hdd (hard drive disk) with the games itself. This is kinda considered what most "average gamers" use. And while the crossover (meaning at what time a SSD and a HDD will cost the same) should be by 2022 until then a HDD is a bit cheaper. SSDs also have a maximum rewrite before they burn out. I was reading the other day that a ssd should last 2 years on 100gb of read and write per day. Since most people use a fraction of that (maybe 1/10th of 100gb daily) means it should last for 7-10 years on decent use. However seeing your setup. The biggest upgrade you could give yourself is more ram. While 8 is plenty for most games. If the kids are gonna want to play the latest triple A games (call of duty, battlefield, far cry, Etc. Etc.) Then having 16gb of ram is going to give you the biggest improvement. Make sure you find something that is a 2x 8gb instead of a single 16gb. Seeing as you already have 8gb you would be best finding 2 identical 8gb sticks but it's not necessary to have identical ram. TL:DR : if you have the extra money to drop, then yes buying a SSD for your setup would be nice and would load games (when you launch them) much faster (anywhere from 30 to 80% faster than a standard 5200 rpm hdd). But you'll find yourself with just as much of a "faster" PC by buying another 8 GB ram stick (or 2 if it came with 2x 4gb)
