The Crucial MX500 series has been one of the most reliable SSDs out there. This one works as advertised and I have had no issues with the two I recently purchased.

Best Buy has fallen from grace. I bought this drive which works fine because the Samsung SSD was in stock in the Montgomery, Al store but the team couldn’t fine it.
Best Buy has become an absolute cess pool. They devalued Best Buy retreats, their website is trash, and their stores are worse. What a tragedy because it’s one of the few places to buy electronics in Montgomery.
Don’t waste your time, buy from BHPhoto or (sigh) Amazon.

A little disappointed that my laptop kept crashing after installing this drive. maybe it doesn't want to setup as a 4TB drive. I will try it again formatted as two 2TB drives (that is what the software wanted to do) and see what happens.

Dead on Arrival, easy return

The product was dead on arrival, I was unable to format or even find it as a device after connecting it to either of my PCs.
It can be luck of the draw when buying certain items, I understand this and I appreciate the simplicity when returning it.
The BB employee at Dimond BB in Anchorage made the return painless and easy.

Failed completely after 8 months. I used this as a drive for all of my movies and TV shows, all gone now and it no longer showing in windows. I bought two of them so now I'm just waiting for the other to go

4tb in particular is junk

I heard quite a few users report issues with the mx500's lately. my 2tb has been running great, so i decided to take the chance and grab the 4tb when it went on sale even though this particular model has significantly less DRAM and seems to have much higher failure rate vs the other sizes (go to amazon, sort by recent reviews)
well sure enough, all of the reviews were correct. junk drive just disappears from my drive list occasionally. for a while it even disappeared from bios until i re-seated the SATA cable.
i know it's not a wiring issue as i tested two different power/data cables, and i was replacing a smaller drive so i was using an already confirmed working cable setup.
there was a firmware update released right as i received the drive, but that was a mess on its own. version m3cr046 which is claimed to fix the drives disappearing. upgrading firmware was a nightmare because, shockingly, you can't upgrade firmware if the drive won't stay up long enough. after 20 reboots and re-seating the cables a few times i got it to initialize long enough to upgrade the firmware and... nope, it didn't fix a thing. initially i thought it worked, so i started cut/pasting files to the new drive (my mistake, should've copied) and the drive disappeared partway through and now i've lost those files and corrupted a few that were part-way through transferring. niiiice... good thing my important stuff is backed up on other drives.
shame on crucial. now i have to drive down and return this. there's a reason a tlc 4tb drive with dram under a brand name is going on such a large sale. these are junk drives that they are trying to offload. don't bother.

Lost over 3tb of files on first reboot after installing drive and copying to it. Worked fine while writing to it then all of a sudden said it was not formated drive. Returned and replaced with Samsung.
