Sadly companies will just flood the market with junk and have no problem putitng their names and reputations on the line. Literally just got this hard drivr hours ago and it’s already refusing to mount and showing up in macOS as corrupt. Of course this is after I successfully migrated a whole partition from another drive over and then deleted said partition to free up space. Thankfully this was a secondary backup drive so the loss of data was mininal but will definitely be staying away from all Crucial/Micron products in the future - especially if you’re hoping to rely on it in case of an emergency.

One thing that most all of us gamers can agree upon is that games are getting larger and larger, despite the fact that those in the know keep telling us about proprietary technology that will go the other direction, it doesn't appear that is happening yet. The more recent games are averaging about 150Gb and so us gamers either delete and reinstall as needed, or we get more storage. Far easier to do the latter and so here we are. This is a very cool little product, and by little it's a good bit smaller than any SSD I've seen. The one I am replacing it with is about twice the size. Seriously this thing is about the size of a small wallet, or maybe even a credit card. It plugs in with either a USB-A or a USB-C. If you have the ability to then you will definitely want to use USB-C due to the speed upgrade you will get. Plugged this in and at first Windows 11 Pro didn't recognize it. I unplugged it and plugged back in and it recognized it. Once that happened then no further issues and honestly I believe that maybe I didn't get it all the way in the first time was all that happened, as I don't plug in and unplug many USB-C items in this day and age. Once I got it up and running it was time to load some games on it. I first installed Madden 26 and Baldurs Gate, both run very fast, very little noticeable wait time at all. I felt the SSD and it was not even warm so that's a great sign that there will be no throttling. Since I got this I have loaded it up with all sorts of games and it just handles like a dream. The small size will make it a definite hit for travelers and the speed will make it a hit for gamers and probably all but the most ardent video graphic editors. All in all I give this one five stars and hope this keeps me with some storage space for the upcoming holiday season. A really good, fast, little SSD!

My Crucial X9 Pro was DOA

I tried to use it for Time Machine backup (i.e., on a Mac), but it kept failing to complete, then dismounting itself, then corrupting itself. I thought maybe Time Machine was the culprit ( ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), but then I got similar errors when trying a different backup program. I eventually saw IO errors in the console which is Bad. That has me a bit concerned about Crucial's Quality control. I bought a Samsung T7 rugged SSD, and that is working great. I was probably unlucky, but in case this is part of a trend, I am posting. Best, Jason

I purchased this for a trip I was taking to the mountains. I was able to teanfer data to it the first day. When I returned later that evening to load more pics and videos on to the ssd I kept getting a corrupted drive error message. Fortunately I was able to salvage most of the data, customer service was awesome and returned it with no hassle.

The SSD failed on DAY ONE. It just died after transferring about 200GB of data. BestBuy "Geek Squad" cannot recover anything from it. So all the data was lost there's nothing I can do about it. Who would have thought a SSD can be LESS reliable than a spinning disk HDD I was trying to replace? I searched online and there are many people having the same failures. DO NOT BUY!

THE BREAKDOWN: The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB external SSD is a great lightweight, small form factor SSD if you are looking to be portable! This thing comes in measuring 2.5” X 2” x 3/8”. It comes with the drive itself and a crucial 10Gb/s USB-C to USB-C cable. The drive itself is made of aluminum so it will hold up to more situations than just your regular plastic drive. The bottom of the drive also has a rubber coating on it which helps it to stay on your lap or the table when in use. It is IP55 water and dust resistant and a drop resistance of 7.5feet/2 meters. The drive’s speed is exactly what you would expect from Crucial, it has read and write speeds up to 1,050MB/s and it also has 2TB capacity. This drive is exactly as advertised, plug and play. It is compatible with Window, Mac, Android, iPad, Linux, PlayStation, and Xbox gaming consoles via the included USB-C cable. PRO’s: - Read and write speeds up to 1,050MB/s - IP55 water and dust resistant - Small form factor CON’s: - None SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they were in the market for a product like this.

The Crucial X9 Pro Portable SSD is small, fast, and convenient — especially if, like me, you have a laptop with limited hard drive space. Disclaimer — I’m not as technologically adept as probably most of the folks reading this. I’ve learned a lot from something that really, in hindsight, is quite simple. I can only imagine that most of you know to first format a new drive like this, and then you’re good to go. I didn’t. So, I opened the small, compact packaging and proceeded to read the extremely short instructions. Crucial told me to go to their website and follow the “step-by-step install guide.” This guide does NOT exist. There are install guides for the internal SSD’s that Crucial sells, but not for the X9. The website itself seems to be a glorified ad for all of their different products and enhancement downloads. Not impressed. I did, however, try a suggested loading of their “Crucial Storage Executive,” thinking that maybe it would help with my setup. This added a dashboard of commands and utilities to the X9. This may be a great feature for some, but not for me. (It didn’t even properly read the specs of the X9, only reading the specs from the laptop) Hmmm. When I connected the drive to my laptop, it wouldn’t let me drag and dump anything. It said that there was no drive detected. Put yourself in my technologically-deprived shoes, and imagine my frustration. It was time to click on the “chat” button… After explaining my journey to this point, the rep from Crucial asked if I had formatted the SSD. I put myself out there and asked how I was supposed to have known to do that? (Now, I know this is where a lot of you are thinking, “Duh!” In my defense, shouldn’t even the limited “instruction” sheet have mentioned this…instead of leading me towards more ads for additional Crucial products? I digress.) The rep patiently guided me through the formatting process on my Windows laptop. Perfect. Now I could drag and drop files to the X9. But wait, there’s more! When I got to my desktop at home and tried to work with the same files, it wouldn’t let me. You see, I’m one of those strange people who uses a Windows laptop, but has a Mac for my home use — and I love them both. So…back to the chat button. The nice rep said, “Oh, that’s an easy one. You just need to format the SSD using ExFAT.” Lesson learned. In spite of all this, the speedy little X9 Pro is a blessing, seeing as how my laptop only has a 256GB SSD. Now I’m set for anything that comes at me when I’m away from home. I like the size, the build — with it’s aluminum (I think) casing, and non-skid landing surface. It’s also stated to be splash proof. What I don’t like is that the website is of no help (except chat), the suggested enhancement download doesn’t even recognize this little beauty, and there is no password protection as stated on the box. None at all. I’ve taken this to multiple devices now, at home and away, and all my files are accessible by simply plugging the X9 in. No password block/wall. It’s not a problem for my needs, but what if this got in somebody else’s hands? I’ve read that there may be some update coming from Crucial in Sept., 2023…? Still, this doesn’t seem right. Well, there’s the good, the bad, and the potentially ugly.

Fast, Compact and Durable external drive

Over the last couple years, I've owned a Crucial X6 and a Crucial X8. They've been great. They allow me store lots of data quickly and easily in a very durable and compact form. The Crucial X9 Pro continues that tradition with some slight changes. The X6 had the shape of a nice skipping stone. Thin, flat, slow rounded corners. It had fast transfers and a plastic body. The X8 continued the looks of the X6, but it had a longer, metallic (magnesium?) body. The X9 goes back to the smaller form size measuring 50mm x 65mm x 10mm. It has a magnesium body, with a silicone coated belly. It has faster rounded corners, but this time it has a lanyard hole that also includes a LED indicator light. The X9 comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable that totals 9 inches in length. It does not come with any USB-C to USB-A adapter, which was disappointing. I first tested this on my 2 year old desktop. I was getting real world transfer speeds of about 366MB/s, a far cry from the 1050 MB/s read/write speeds that are advertised for this X9. I then jumped into Crystal Disk Mark and got a read speed of about 464 MB/s. That's when I realized my USB-C port on my desktop was the bottleneck. I jumped over to my laptop and Crystal Disk Mark on that showed 1060 MB/s and 960 for sequential read and write speeds respectively. I was quite pleased that the read speed was just slightly faster than advertised. I was pleased to find out that the X9 has a 5 year limited warranty and comes with 1 month of Adobe Creative Cloud. On the box, it advertises Password Protection. It has the capability, but you really need to be running the right software (e.g. BitLocker) to enable that. Since getting these Crucial drives, I have stopped purchasing USB sticks to transfer my stuff between PCs. Some of the sticks I had required me to delete content before I could add additional content requiring some extra thought and time. Since the X9 has 2 TB of storage, I can keep all the content I want and rarely have to delete anything when I need to transfer another VM disk. I will likely use this X9 to supplement the small 512 GB disk on one of my laptops so that I can grow the Virtual Machine Library that machine can run. With 2 TB and up to 1050 MB/s in read/write performance, the X9 will supplement that laptop's resources exceedingly well.

    BLAZING fast portable SSD

The Crucial X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD is a tiny POWERHOUSE! This portable SSD drive is so small it literally fits in the palm of your hand. It is connects via the included USB-C (USB 3.2 Gen 2) cable. The cable is very short at about 9.44 inches, but I didn’t find that to be a hindrance at all. I would think that the short cable helps maintain the fast speeds. Simply plug the cable into the drive and plug the other end into your Windows PC, Mac, etc. and you’re ready to utilize its vast amount of storage immediately. There is no formatting to do. I found that copying and moving files to/from both my Mac and Windows PC was a breeze. I was able to load a program on the drive and use it directly from it. It was much quicker doing that than I had expected. I don’t have any video editing software yet, but this drive should allow me to do some editing directly on this drive. That would be convenient to be able to take the drive with me and so some editing on the fly. And having 256-bit AES hardware encryption, my They claim it can both read and write at up to 1050 MB/s. I have no way of measuring the actual speed - all I know is that this drive is blazing fast and at 2TB it can hold a ton of whatever it is that you want to store. They include some optional software, mostly to try to sell you something, but they do include a download of some back-up software which I have not used yet. Conveniently, this drive is dust & water resistant with a IP55 rating. I would HIGHLY recommend this Crucial X9 Pro 2TB External USB-C SSD to anyone in the market for a BLAZING-fast, super light and small in form-factor but huge in capacity SSD.

The Crucial X9 2TB portable SSD drive is an excellent solution for storing lots of information, large files, and taking it with you. Transfers are extremely fast. The best thing is that you can easily put this in your pocket, or even attach it to your keys. It's about 3/4's the length of a credit card, and only 3/8" thick. Initially, I wanted to use this with my home security system, but for some reason the home base won't recognize it. But now I use it to store all the current PC games I play, and can take them from PC to PC at my house, and to my property up north. So I only have to download the game once, and then direct the game client to the Crucial X9 drive, and it finds all the games I have. This comes in really handy on my laptop due to limited space, and I haven't upgraded the OEM drive yet. I've also downloaded a bunch of movies to the drive and bring them with me up north too. This really comes in handy because there is not any internet companies that are in the area, and the cell phone signal is hit or miss up there. Planning ahead, and being able to fit a lot of movie options on this drive is a game changer for me. The only complaint I have is that it only comes with a USB-C to USB-C cable. It would be nice to have a USB-A to USB-C cable as well. Luckily I had one, and was able to make it work for the situation I have. If you looking for an extremely portable external hard drive with 2TB capacity, look no further. This is the drive you are looking for. Likes: 1.) Extremely portable 2.) Fast transfer time of large files 3.) Large capacity Dislikes: 1.) Only comes with USB-C to USB-C cable
