- A: AnswerI found it to be plug and play. No need to format it. No software needed to use it. Yes, simply plug it in and drag and drop files. There are some shortcuts on the drive that will take you to some free and some paid software but not neccessary. The one I recommend you find and download is from Crucial and will update your drive's firmware. Think it is called Crucial Storage Executive.

If you system does not have USB type C port then you can connect USB type A port. You need to buy a connecter USB type A to USB type C external connect which you connect type to type C cable. one end of this cable connect to SSD and another end connect to USB type A to type C adaptor then adaptor connect to system. Speedy & Rugged, Finally!
Finally the Crucial x9 pro had gone on sale and I picked one up for myself. I heavily rely on this SSD for my drone and photography/video business. There is no other SSD that exists for a better quality at this price point. I am happy to say I will be returning to purchase the 4TB model. I’ve clocked read/write speeds at 909 and 880!! If you’re new to photo/video storage or even a professional, this SSD is well worth the money! If I had the money I would of bought two! Also, there’s a small hole with an LED light in the corner for a carabiner.

Ultrafast and very small
Performance - The Crucial x9 Pro impresses with its speedy performance (1050mbps read/write), making file transfers a breeze. Perfect for moving large files like photos and videos from SD cards to SSD to PC/Laptop. Capacity - With 2TB, it offers ample space for backing up files and photos on the go. It's also versatile enough to use for extra storage on gaming consoles or home theater PCs. Its competitive pricing for 2TB makes it a smart investment. I plan on using it for my travel backups, replacing a larger external SSD that takes up more space. Durability - Built to withstand water, dust, and sand (IP55), its compact size and rugged design make it perfect for travel. The sleek space gray anodized aluminum finish and rubberized bottom add durability and style. The lanyard hole doubles as an activity light, enhancing its functionality and convenience.

Looks better than Samsung T7 Shield
I was surprised after I opened the box and saw how small this is. I use this to store my edited photos for my wife to print out photo albums on Shutterfly. Also it looks better than my Samsun T7 Shield (in my opinion).
