Avoid like the plague
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This coffee maker failed miserably on the 3rd brewing. It began spewing coffee all over the room, and would only output 6 cups of coffee for every 10 ounces of water. When I called Cuisinart's customer support, their rep was only capable of saying "descale it." Why would you descale a coffee maker you've only used 3 times? After 6 months they finally refunded my money.

Cusinart DCC-1200 - Absolutely Love It!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am picky about my coffee makers. I read reviews, debate, make a purchase and then sure enough... return it because it i didn't like it or something about it. This last time around, about 8 months ago, I went through 5 different units/makes/models until i came to this one. It was a toss up between this one and the next 2 model numbers above it. The first was a very slight upgrade with regard to water tank numbering being on the outside vs. inside of the tank and the other unit had an additional hot water dispenser. I thought that a neat feature until i realized that it would so rarely be used. Since the DCC-1200 was on sale, it won. Here are my impressions. This is a long read, but hopefully worth it. I find that this unit is a bit slow when making a pot of coffee. The owners manual said, and i paraphrase) that it takes 1 - 2 minutes per cup brewed. My experience is that it takes about 20 minutes for a pot. The good thing, it has a clock/timer so you can preset the night before. It also has an option to do brew 1-4 cups vs. a full pot. The warming burner has 3 levels: low, medium and hot. The hot is pretty hot and i'm pleased. Some don't like where you pour the water into the unit, top back and they don't like that the number of cups labeling, is inside the unit vs. showing from the outside. I find that there is plenty of room to pour the water into the unit without making a mess and since i filled the pot to transfer the water into the tank, i already know how much water is in the unit. So the fact that the number of cups numbering is inside the unit is fine for me. This unit comes with a gold cone filter. I found that I use it on a daily basis vs. paper filters. The clock on the unit is NOT backlit so you cannot see it in the dark. I wish that having a backlit on/off option were included but it's not. It's dark and you grow used to it. Using the "cleaning" function when the light comes on is a very slow process. Plan an hour if you use that function. This comes to the 1 thing i do not like about the unit. The cleaning feature lite, when it comes on, the unit probably needs cleaning. After that though, the machine has a hard time knowing that it's clean. Keep reading for details. The light came on about 2 weeks ago. Since then, i've cleaned the unit at least 10 times using vinegar, dip-ip, and 2 other cleaners i got off of Amazon, both made to clean commercial coffee makers. They work slick! Let me tell ya. But... my machine is clean! No more gunk has come out after the last 3 cleans, even when i use the machines cleaning cycle feature. I guarantee it's as clean now as it was when purchased. But the light still comes on, every other pot. It's a borderline annoyance but considering all the other PRO's of this unit, i can live with it. This unit looks nice, it works great and it makes a stellar cup of coffee. I would expect a machine of this calibre to be in the $150 range, not the $80 range. I'm a happy user of over 8 months and counting. There is currently no signs of failure other than maybe the machine thinks it needs cleaning even though it's clean. If/when this unit goes, without question... i would buy another. One more thing which varies from maker/machine to maker/machine... the coffee pot itself... it pours just fine. SOOO many now days are messy. They spill, drip and make a mess when simply pouring a cup of coffee. This one pours fine. In addtion, if you have a LARGE cup like i do and you pour too fast, it will truly come out fast, so be ready. It goes from the normal pour to turbo mode. LOL. SO be ready, for it can be very messy and it can burn you. What i mean by turbo is simply this... you're pouring a cup. You turn the pot too far, in order to make it pour faster and all of a sudden, is pours at 2x the rate. Because it comes out so much faster, it also changes the pouring arc and will likely miss your cup. Hence... the mess. One other negative... the "pause and server" or whatever it's called, works very poorly. You're supposed to be able to pull the pot out of the machine while it's brewing in order to pour a quick cup. Don't do it. Wait for it to finish because if you do, not only do you have less than 10 seconds or you'll have a true mess, but it's going to be somewhat messy regardless. This feature simply does not work well. But... on the positive, the bottom seems sealed and is easily cleaned. Just wait for it to cool. Ok... there's a lot here. I easily give this machine 5 stars but subtract 1 due to the cleaning light coming on and the pause and serve not working well. Oh yeah... i've read some reviews about people not liking the beep when the machine auto turns off. For me, it's a non issue. it's not overly loud and it's not invasive. One quick beep and done. Auto turn-off is 2 hrs, i do believe. So far, it's not an issue. I thought it might be when i first bought it but i found that it's not a problem for i wind up drinking it prior to it turning off. Hopefully this review will help some out there who are on the fence. Just remember... my disclaimer... what works for me may not necessarily work for others. Therefore, keep your receipt until you know for sure that it's a keeper. For me... i'd buy another just to put on the shelf for if/when the day comes that this machine breaks down.

Brews a Good Cup of Coffee
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our Cuisinart Coffeemaker brews a reasonably good cup of coffee and will remain hot up to 4 hours. The black and silver of the coffeemaker is sleek looking and easy to clean with a visible water level indicator. It is convenient to have brew start programming ability. However, the digital clock readout is VERY difficult to view unless you have it at eyelevel and in good lighting. After the coffeemaker automatically shuts off, it takes about 15 minutes to turn it on again because it seems to needs a cool down period. The coffee carafe design is satisfactory in NOT dripping when being poured and easy to clean in the dishwasher. We bought the coffeemaker with Best Buy rebate bonus money so the price was right. We would consider buying the same coffeemaker as a replacement for this one in the future.

Simply Stopped Working
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very disappointed in this coffee maker as it simply stopped working without any prior hint of trouble. For the price, this coffee maker should certainly last longer than 18 months.

Does not brew hot coffee
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although the dial has separate settings for coffee temperature- in the hottest setting- the coffee comes out "warm" at best. Too much trouble to bother returning it since the red color was only available online...

Good for me, Great for others
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had always used Bunn but got this coffee pot as a wedding gift and it went 7 years before dying. Best Buy did not carry Bunn so I purchased another Cuisinart. Good side is decanter is shaped well, replaceable charcoal filter insert on left rear, as well as permanent filter so paper filters no longer needed. Brews fairly quickly and adjustable temp (l,m, &h) decanter base works. I do not program but expect it works well. Bad side is opening the lid after brewing causes condensation to fall from underneath entire top and collect on counter behind unit creating a clean-up issue every time used. The rear top has a small protrusion and this is an overflow slot which again puts water on surface behind coffee pot as it nears full fill. I never had to clean up after other brands but have got used to its aggravation.

A workhorse
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I replaced an identical coffee maker with a new one. First one lasted 10+ years of multiple daily usage. The new one was $22 off retail price and included a $20 gift card so it was a no brainer. Good coffee, good features, dependable. Cuisinart has yet to disappoint me in any of their products. Who needs a Keurig?

This is the best coffee maker ever
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this coffee maker after several other brands. So far this is the best. Even better than one I paid $150.00 for. The price was great as I got it on sale. The coffee is hot. 3 different settings for temperature. It will keep the coffee hot up to four hours. My last pot only kept it hot for 1 hour. It is easy to use and dosen't have all of the lights on it that light the whole room up at night. It can be set up for a certain time to brew. However I set it up at night and in the morning the first one up flips the switch and it brews the coffee. It has a clean cycle. The pot is nice and it dosen't drip when pouring. I would buy it again and recommend it to others.

Great coffee maker. Everything I needed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Usually I buy simple, basic coffee makers, but I wanted to have my coffee made for me when I woke up. This is an easy to use, clean and attractive machine. It's never become clogged, and the filter certainly helped improve the water quality. I would buy the machine again.

just a darn good coffeemaker
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This coffemaker is awesome! So easy to use and program - no thought needed. I previously had one of those single cup makers, and that was a total waste of money because the entire machine broke down in less than a year. I've had this coffeemaker for over a year now and couldn't have been happier that I'm buying one for my boyfriend. My parents own one too!

Everything I needed!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love it! We have had this coffee maker for about 2 months. This machine is programmable to auto start. As mentioned, the timer readout is not lighted and somewhat of a small readout, so if you change your start times often, this may be annoying. We don't change it, so it's not an issue. It brews 12 cups in about 10 minutes and you can brew small batches easily. You can also remove the pot and pour a cup while it's brewing - yeah!. Some pots drip onto the warmer when you do this. I have not seen that happen. There is an alarm that beeps when brewing is complete and an alarm that beeps when the warmer shuts off. The warmer stays on for a couple of hours - but you can shut that off. This also has a self cleaning feature, which I haven't used. There is a water filter that needs periodic replacement. I have't done that yet either, so I don't know if they are readily available or not. Basket filters are standard and easy to find at the grocery store, Target, etc. I think the coffee needed to brew is pretty standard. Cuisinart recommends 1 scoop per cup. We use less than that. There is a scoop included as well. We do drink more coffee now because it is very convenient to use this machine, but I am not complaining :)

Best coffee maker we've had.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've had this coffee maker for more than two years now after going through several cheapo units - it is well worth the ~$80 we paid back then. We even got the Best Buy protection but we've never had to use it. I guess we've been lucky in not getting a faulty unit because we've never had any problems with it. Sure, filling it with water is a bit awkward - but a little patience and a little aiming skill is all you need to prevent spills. The best feature is the auto-start - you program the timer only once (assuming you want your coffee at the same time each morning). Then every night I fill the water reservoir, place a #4 filter, add ground coffee and flip the switch up. As fas programming goes, the controls are not immediately intuitive -- this unit goes for "looks" (old-style buttons, knobs, a toggle switch) rather than the easy one-touch operation. Just read the manual once to figure it out. At the end of the day (or the beginning of the day, in our case), all we care about is waking up to the smell of great coffee -- this coffee maker continues to be reliable after 2 years. We are very happy with it.

My daughter and I both have these
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My daughter and I both got these coffeemakers a few weeks ago. So far, the coffee is great, no malfunctions, easy to use and clean. Its a little harder to pour the water in just due to the spot being small and on the side of the back of the unit but not a serious flaw. We replaced an old coffeepot of the same brand that had started having problems probably due to all the minerals in our water.

poor customer service, breach of warranty
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cuisinart DCC-1200 Brew Central 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black/Brushed Metal (Kitchen) Cuisinart’s customer service is either innocently or intentionally designed to fail and fail of its essential purpose: to provide service to the customer. Correspondents don’t read and respond to content; reply with form answers and are unresponsive and if you call customer service, the representatives have no access to the online correspondence and thus, fail in the essential purpose: to provide service. The hours of operation are 7 AM -11 PM EST Monday through Friday and 9 AM - 5:30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays, excluding major holidays.] I liked my coffeemaker until the pot cracked while sitting on the hotplate. I had used it 2 yrs but it has a 3 yr warranty. It is an expensive coffeemaker and I thought quality would follow the pricing, I was wrong. Then, I was "wronged" by customer service of Cuisinart with their failure to honor the 3 yr warranty. My coffeemaker unit was not out of warranty. The coffeemaker cost approximately twice the amount of competitive coffeemakers [$90 +]. I thought I was buying quality with the extra $$ paid; I was wrong. One other Cuisinart product I unfortunately bought, a coffee grinder, literally went up in smoke and I got the same prattle from Cuisinart: "your unit is out of warranty…" I complained and they sent me a new unit, under warranty. Cuisinart based "out of warranty" on my serial number, however, I have no way of knowing how long the end-seller had the unit in unsold stock. Cuisinart’s business practices are astonishingly bad and ill-conceived. My only choice is not to be their customer and influence as many others as I can - certainly impacting more than the twenty bucks at stake for a replacement carafe. The practices appear to be designed to avoid the warranty and warranties for a particular purpose along with the breach of the business ethic to practice sales and service with honesty and integrity. Online reviews of Cuisinart appear to rate Cuisinart 1.5 ratings out of 5; or a different site, 86% comments [163] were negative out of 186 online filings. David P., Esq.
