Great Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Honestly this is a good product....Dont know how anyone can put it down...Easy to set up..good picture with night vision...you can even set up the SD card to record...what is not to like..you don't have silly cloud storage or silly fees like other ones I seen...going to buy another one for my house...my wife first complained when I bought saying it's just another gadget...Now she loves it and check in on our dogs when we are at work...the latest model has 2 way audio...mine just has 1...would recommend to anyone for piece of mind....can access anywhere on my phone with app that is super easy to set up...as long as you got decent WiFi at home it will work well....

Good for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This camera has a good quality picture. I like that it has 2-way audio. I like the recording and picture taking capabilities. The one thing that is frustrating with the camera is that when it loses WiFi connection it’s hard to reconnect it. I have to unplug it numerous times and attempt to reconnect it numerous times before it actually connects. It’s very frustrating and takes a long time. This is why I gave it 3 stars.

App Only / No RTSP / poor documentation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The only reason it gets at least two stars is the camera quality, which, while not the best (it's a tad dark), is definitely serviceable. The main issue was viewing and its limitations. The App freezes without you knowing (really bad for a baby monitor role). The app has some automation feature (read: you can key off two events: high decibel and motion). The issue for me is having to use the app. I wanted to stream the video to a Kindle Fire, but the app is not supported on it. The old DLink apps that are on the Kindle don't recognize the camera. If RTSP worked on it, I could just stream the video to any device that could view RTSP (VLC for example), which is far more readily available. Technically, it can support RTSP; a port scan revealed that it is listening on port 554, but Tech Support won't provide the URL to listen on, let alone admit that the cam can do that. Generally, DLINK has offered a camera that could do much more (and older ones have), but it has decided to make it stupid easy to use based on its own definition of what that is. Without providing access to the camera feed outside the app, DLINK has put in usability roadblocks that can only be fixed at the speed and attentiveness of their app development team. I was told by support that it was done for security reasons. okay, but allow the consumer to opt-in to more advanced functionality that the camera is obviously capable of. If DLINK changes their stance on this, and enable access to standard features, then I'd recommend the product. I hope it is a responsive company. My first impression has not been good.

Nice picture but a PITA at times
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have three DCS-8300LS cameras. All running at firmware level 1.7.0 I am viewing them through wireless networks with my Android Notebook. Each time I exit the DLink App (or run the App again) all 3 cameras automatically reset themselves to 780p, requiring me to go into Setup to return them to 1080p - kind of a PITA. One camera is indoors viewing our back yard through a window, so I have night vision turned off because of reflection. During the daytime, sometimes I see a perfect picture of the back yard while other times all I see is a bright white totally washed out picture - not certain why, Brightness of picture is not adjustable

Garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don’t buy this piece of garbage. Initially everything was fine, video quality isn’t as good as it should be for a 90.00 dollar device but you get what you pay for. My issue with this thing is the connectivity. I disabled the WiFi on the device for a bit because it was no longer needed. When I try to get this device to connect again it will not connect to the application... I’ve reset the application, I deleted the device. I even tried to factory reset the camera and nothing. This is garbage save your money get something else.

Too complicated , not user friendly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Using Apple products with this camera, can watch live monitoring, but very difficult to get push notifications when camera sees motion. The device comes pre configured to record video to their cloud site and they make it near impossible to change it over to the SD card installed in the camera. The device does not work with all browsers or operating systems. Using Mac OS and Safari (latest release of both) This is going back to BB and I will get a working device......

No Web Interface on this model
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was buying this specifically to replace a DCS-936L for use via web interface. Unfortunately, the DCS-8300LF does not have a web interface. It's likely due to security problems at DLink, but I was still able to use Fing to find ports open (80, 443, 554, 2000, 7000, 8080, 8081), but none responding to any browser. So back to Best Buy this cruddy cam goes.
